This is my review of iProVPN.
I’m a former cybersecurity consultant and expert VPN researcher. I’ve tested and examined iProVPN in-depth to help you determine if it’s the best VPN service for you.
iProVPN is a new affordable VPN that’s quickly becoming a favorite among privacy buffs.
I found the VPN to be quite reliable, and I was impressed with its performance. iProVPN is perfect if you’re looking to safeguard your browsing activities without breaking the bank.
But should you pick them?
To help you make an informed decision, I spent days using the VPN and analyzed all its aspects, from speed to security, privacy, and geo-unblocking capabilities.
Let’s get started!

Overview of iProVPN
Fast speeds, great customer support, and powerful security features are just some of the things that make iProVPN service stand out.
Launched in 2020, iProVPN is one of the youngest providers in the market. Despite being new to the scene, the VPN has hit the ground running and is already outperforming more known services.
The company is based in the British Virgin Islands, which is an excellent jurisdiction for privacy.
"iProVPN is the solution to the privacy risks of today. Our team is a group of privacy advocates who want to create an open and fair internet."
- iProVPN
In regards to security, iProVPN uses military-grade 256-bit AES encryption alongside a selection of best-in-class protocols.
You can use the VPN on a wide range of platforms, including Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS, and Routers.
Pros
- Provides high-speed connections
- Offers powerful security features
- Maintains a strict no-logs policy
- Allows P2P/torrenting
- Simple, intuitive apps
- 30-day money-back guarantee
- Affordable pricing
- 1-month free trial
Cons
- Server speeds can vary
- Few servers
Privacy & Jurisdiction
iProVPN takes privacy seriously and hàs a strict no-logs policy.
After reading the fine print, I was pleased to see that they are straightforward with what they collect and what they don’t.
iProVPN does not store your:
- IP address
- DNS requests
- Connection timestamps
- Connection duration
However, like most providers, iProVPN does collect some personally identifiable information, including your:
- Payment details
But since the provider does not store activity logs, it’s virtually impossible to link your iProVPN account to your online activities.
Jurisdiction & Applicable Laws
Another thing I like about iProVPN is that it’s located in a privacy-friendly jurisdiction.
The British Virgin Islands does not have mandatory data retention laws, which means the government cannot request the provider to record and share your browsing activities.
In addition, the BVI is not a member of the Fourteen Eyes spy network. Like the FYVES, all member nations of the 14-Eyes alliance must share security intel.
So, even if there is a breach, you can sleep easy knowing that what you do with the BVI VPN will stay in the BVI.
"iProVPN operates in the jurisdiction of British Virgin Islands. It has no data retention laws that can force us to log user data and share with law enforcement or intelligence agencies. If any request for data is made by an external government, it will be reviewed thoroughly by a British Virgin Islands court before being passed to us. Since iProVPN does not store personally identifiable information such as user logs, it cannot provide that information."
- iProVPN
iProVPN delivers on its promise of being the solution to the privacy risks of today. It maintains a strict no-logs policy and is based in one of the best jurisdictions for privacy.
Security & Features
Whether you’re looking to safely use public WiFi hotspots or securely access a remote network, I found iProVPN to be a more than capable service.
Tunneling Protocols & Encryption
iProVPN uses bank-grade AES 256-bit encryption, which is virtually impenetrable and can keep you safe from hackers and the prying eyes of your ISP.
As for tunneling, you get 5 options, allowing you to tailor your connection to the task at hand. Available protocols include:
- OpenVPN (TCP/UDP)
- IKEv2
- L2TP
- PPTP
Personally, I recommend OpenVPN (UDP) because it strikes the perfect balance between security and speed. It’s also compatible with most systems and offers more reliable connections.
If, like me, you experience issues with the default protocol—IKEv2—on your device, simply switch to UDP, and you’ll be good to go.
Other Great Security Features
iProVPN does the basics exceptionally well, but beyond that, the service is pretty much bare bones. The only available premium security features you’ll get are:
- DNS leak protection – iProVPN comes with a built-in DNS leak protection, which prevents your DNS requests from going through your ISP, ensuring your web activity stays hidden.
- Internet kill switch – Immediately stops internet access when your VPN connection drops to avoid leaking your identity and browsing history. This feature can prove invaluable if you’re using an unstable internet connection.
I was disappointed not to find advanced add-ons like Double VPN, perfect forward secrecy, diskless servers, or split tunneling (on Windows and Mac).
Does iProVPN Leak Your Data?
As mentioned, iProVPN comes with a built-in DNS leak protection and an automatic kill switch. To see if the features are any good, I ran leak tests to check for IP, DNS, and WebRTC leaks.
Note: In the test below, I was connected to the UK 1 server.
IP Leak Test – IPLeak.Net
Impressively, I found no IP leaks whatsoever. That means you can use the VPN to perform privacy-sensitive tasks without worrying about your anonymity being compromised.
DNS Leak Test – IP8.Com
Again the VPN proved to be equally adept at hiding your DNS information from ISPs.
As you can see in the screenshot below, the DNS server address matches the assigned public IP address.
WebRTC Leak Test – IP8.Com
With iProVPN, you don’t necessarily need to disable WebRTC on your browser. That’s because the VPN blocks WebRTC leaks.
iProVPN provides robust security and can definitely keep you safe online. However, the service does lack a few advanced features that you would typically find in premium VPNs.
Server Locations
One of the areas I found iProVPN a bit lacking was in the server department. The VPN has around 30 servers in 20 countries.
Although the server list isn’t much, I was pleased with their distribution. You’ll find servers in North America, Europe, Asia, and Oceania.
Another great thing is that iProVPN doesn’t use any virtual servers. Unlike physical servers, virtual servers are often operated by third-parties, which can compromise the security of your data.
iProVPN has specialized servers for streaming, located in the US, UK, and India. This allows you to easily unblock services like HotStar (India), BBC iPlayer (UK), and Netflix and Hulu (US) without sifting through a bunch of servers.
Although iProVPN has a small number of servers, they’ve done a decent job of spreading them across the globe. The provider also offers optimized servers for streaming, making it easier to unblock Netflix and like.
Speed & Performance
iProVPN delivers high-speed server connections across both regional and long-distance servers. In fact, it outshined numerous premium services, which really surprised me.
Speed Test Results
When connected to local servers, I enjoyed some of the best speeds of any VPN service. In practice, I didn’t notice any difference between my standard connection and the VPN connection, even when streaming.
On paper, the VPN slowed down my internet connection by just 8 percent, which is not something you see every day.
This means even with iProVPN turned on, you can still do everything you can do with your non-VPN connection.
As is the norm with VPNs, my speeds dipped a bit when connected to distant servers. Even then, I was able to stream HD videos without having to endure a single buffering.
Below are my speed test results for multiple local and distant servers.
Note: When conducting the speed tests, my baseline speed was 96.84 Mbps download, 47.91 Mbps upload, and a ping of 10 ms.
Location | Ping (ms) | Download (Mbps) | Upload (Mbps) |
---|---|---|---|
US (New York) | 128 | 67.48 | 32.69 |
UK (2) | 24 | 89.02 | 43.15 |
Australia | 237 | 58.11 | 27.58 |
Japan | 201 | 60.49 | 29.76 |
When conducting speed tests, I usually use OpenVPN – my top recommended protocol. Also, where the choice is available, like with iProVPN, I opt for the UDP version.
That said, if you’re interested in fast speeds more than anything else, you should get faster connections with IKEv2, L2TP, and PPTP.
iProVPN offers fast and consistent connections on both regional and long-distance servers.
Price & Value
iProVPN offers incredible service, and it does so at an affordable price. The provider has several subscription plans to choose from, including:
- 2-year plan
- 1-year plan
- 1-month plan
Alternatively, you can opt for a 7-day free trial at a fraction of the cost. iProVPN also bundles 1 month free with the monthly plan.
Payment Methods
The provider accepts multiple payment methods, including:
- PayPal
- Visa
- MasterCard
- American Express
- Discover
Refund Policy
iProVPN has a 30-day money-back guarantee, which allows you to try the service risk-free. The refund policy covers all first-time purchases, including the 1-month plan.
iProVPN offers excellent value for money. The VPN manages to be affordable without compromising on performance.
Streaming
There isn’t much you can fault iProVPN with when it comes to streaming. In my tests, the service unblocked all the leading streaming sites.
Platform | Status |
---|---|
Netflix US | ✅ |
Hulu | ✅ |
BBC iPlayer | ✅ |
HBO | ✅ |
Amazon Prime Video | ✅ |
Does iProVPN Work With Netflix?
iProVPN works seamlessly with Netflix and can unblock the American version from anywhere.
I tried all the US servers, and every single one of them worked on the first try. But I had a better experience using the streaming-optimized server.

Other Supported Streaming Services
Netflix isn’t the only streaming service that iProVPN unblocks.
In my tests, the VPN allowed me to unblock BBC iPlayer without much of a hassle.
That’s saying something since even some of the VPNs that work with Netflix can barely crack this “UK-only” streaming site.
For this one, I connected to the “UK Streaming” server. And as you can see below, I was able to successfully stream the first episode of Line of Duty.
It could very well be the perks of being a newcomer whose servers are yet to be identified by streaming platforms, but iProVPN seamlessly unblocked everything I threw its way.
In addition to iPlayer, I was also able to access:
- Hulu
- Disney+
- Prime Video
- Hotstar
- HBO Max
iProVPN is a perfect VPN for streaming. It is super-fast and reliably unblocks virtually all streaming services out there, including Netflix, Hulu, and BBC iPlayer.
Gaming
Thanks to its incredible geo-unblocking capabilities, iProVPN is an excellent VPN for gaming.
I tested several iProVPN servers, both local and distant, while playing League of Legends, and all allowed me to play without any lags
Additionally, the VPN offers protection against Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks, allowing you to avoid targeted slowdowns and enjoy smooth gameplay.

iProVPN’s fast speeds and low latency make it an ideal VPN for gaming.
Torrenting (P2P)
iProVPN permits P2P file sharing on all their servers. No guesswork needed – just click on any server you prefer, connect, and start torrenting.
Is iProVPN Good for Torrenting?
iProVPN is a good VPN for torrenting. It’s highly secure, thanks to its robust encryption and leak-free connections.
On top of that, iProVPN does not keep logs, so you don’t have to worry about your torrenting ways becoming known by your ISP or copyright trolls.
And you don’t have to wait around all day either for a download to complete. The VPN is fast and barely affects your download speeds when connected to a nearby server.
In my tests, the service worked reliably with qBittorent. As you can see below, I was able to download the trailer for Zach Snyder’s Justice League.
iProVPN and torrenting are a perfect match. The VPN service gives you complete anonymity and can keep you safe when connected to a swarm.
Platforms & Devices
iProVPN is compatible with a wide range of devices. And since the VPN works with routers, you can also use it with devices like Apple TV, Roku, game consoles (Xbox/PlayStation), and others that lack built-in VPN functionality.
The provider offers native apps for:
- Windows
- Mac
- iOS
- Android
- Amazon Fire TV
iProVPN also comes with browser extensions for Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.
How Many Devices Does iProVPN Allow at a Go?
iProVPN allows you to connect up to 10 devices at a go, making it an ideal option if you have a family or multiple devices.
If 10 simultaneous connections aren’t enough, iProVPN allows you to get more but at an additional cost.
iProVPN is highly compatible and can be used with any WiFi-capable device. Besides, the VPN has user-friendly apps for all the primary devices, making it easier to set up and use.
Customer Support
iProVPN offers reliable customer support. Their agents are friendly, knowledgeable, and always willing to help. You can contact them via:
- Live chat
Of the two, I found live chat support to be quicker and more accessible. iProVPN also has a knowledge base section on their website, where you can find FAQs and setup tutorials.
Overall, I was impressed with iProVPN’s customer support, especially the live chat, which you can use to get help in minutes.
User Experience
iProVPN clients feature a sleek design with a simple interface. This makes it easy to use, and you can quickly establish a connection by clicking a conspicuous “ON” switch on the home screen.
The VPN offers multiple customization options, including the ability to change VPN protocols. You can personalize the service further by choosing whether to:
- Enable the kill switch
- Launch on startup
- Autoconnect after launch
- Redial immediately if VPN connection drops
- Disconnect the VPN on app exit
That said, I encountered some issues when navigating the server list on PC. Apparently, the menu lacks a scroll bar, and you can only move down the list and not up.
But on the bright side, the app has a search bar that you can use to find your target server.
Everything considered, I was pleased with iProVPN’s usability. However, I would like to see the provider add a scroll bar to the server menu to make it easier to select your target location.
What Do Customers Think About iProVPN?
After scouring the web for customer feedback, I found virtually all the comments were positive. The provider has a score of 4.8/5.0 on TrustPilot, which after using the service, is not surprising.
I also checked the user reviews on the Google Play Store, and again, most of the users seemed happy with the service.
