I used to be ignorant about VPNs until one of my online banking accounts was hacked and wiped clean. From that day, I grew weary of public Wi-Fi hotspots and would avoid them like the plague.

Still, I knew I had to find a solution that would allow me to continue enjoying the convenience of public Wi-Fi. That’s when I learned about VPNs.

In this TouchVPN review, I take a look at the VPN service and let you know if it’s worth your time.

However, if you want the best value, I recommend NordVPN. Trust me, you won’t regret it!

What You Should Consider Before Getting a VPN

A VPN can be a great tool if you are looking to stay secure and anonymous when online. It encrypts your internet traffic and hides your activity from anyone who might be interested in it.

With a VPN, you can also hide your location, enabling you to access geo-blocked content on sites like Netflix and Hulu.

But not all providers can guarantee the above, and it’s mainly the reason I review the VPNs to help find your best option.

Overall, some of the critical aspects you should look for in a VPN include:

  • Connection Speed: Generally, a VPN will slow down the speed of your connections, mainly due to the encryption. This differs from one provider to the next with best providers able to guarantee fast and stable server connections.
  • Server Coverage: Your ideal VPN should servers in all your preferred locations. To access restricted content, you will need a VPN that has servers in a country where that particular content is available.
  • Encryptions/protocols: These determine how secure your connections will be. Here I recommend AES 256 encryption and the OpenVPN protocol. I also find IKEv2 to be fast and reliable, but it’s often detected and blocked by IP firewalls.
  • Privacy Policy: A lack a clear ‘no logging’ policy should be a huge red flag. I’ve come across providers that have no qualms storing and selling personal and session data. The safest VPNs also operate out of privacy-friendly jurisdictions (non-14-Eyes countries).
  • Ease of Use: If a VPN requires you to be a tech expert, it not worth using. Look for a VPN that is simple to set up and has a dedicated app for your device.
  • Technical support: Often ignored but quite important. A slow or non-responsive customer service team can leave your frustrated in case of any issues with your VPN software. Today, the best service providers offer 24/7 Live Chat support.

Introducing TouchVPN

TouchVPN banner

TouchVPN is an exciting provider that offers a free VPN service.

The VPN comes with 40-plus servers in over 30 countries, respectable speeds, and great encryption features.

It certainly sounds too good to be true. So, the obvious question is: What’s shady about the VPN provider? The answer is nothing.

TouchVPN is owned by AnchorFree, the same Internet Security and Privacy Company that owns Hotspot Shield VPN. They maintain the same privacy standards and do not log or share your session activities.

The service can definitely help if you are an average user looking for a solid level of protection but be warned: you will have to look for an alternative if you’re interested in advanced features such as P2P support, Double VPN, and Dedicated IP.

TouchVPN also lacks support for Linux, routers, and Smart TVs, but for a free service, you can’t complain much.

  • Free VPN
  • Respectable speeds
  • Robust encryption
  • Zero activity logs
  • Unlimited bandwidth

  • Server speeds may vary
  • No Live Chat support

Features and Benefits of TouchVPN

As you would expect from AnchorFree, TouchVPN’s website is well-designed and easy to navigate. They have also secured the site with TLS, which is an improved version of SSL encryption.

Security and Privacy

Talking about security and privacy, TouchVPN shines bright.

But their jurisdiction, is not the best!

VPN Encryption and Protocols

Despite being completely free, TouchVPN offers some exciting security features.

They encrypt all their server connections with military-grade 256-bit AES, the best-in-industry VPN encryption.

As for the protocols, they offer OpenVPN as well as HydraVPN, a multi-hop VPN technology.

No Activity Logs

I was also impressed to find out that TouchVPN does not keep any activity logs.

They, however, admit to collecting personal information like your email and username, but you do not need to register or provide such information to use their service.

TouchVPN claims they do not store any logs

Five Eye Jurisdiction: The Worst It Gets

TouchVPN is based in California, USA, which is a 5-Eye Jurisdiction.

If your provider is in such a jurisdiction, the government can compel the provider to hand over any data they have recorded and stored.

Luckily, TouchVPN does not keep any logs or require users to give personal or payment details.

So, even if the authorities come knocking, they are unlikely to find any user identifiable information.

IP and DNS Leak Test

I tested a few TouchVPN servers for IP and DNS leak tests, and I was impressed with the results. There were no IP, DNS, or WebRTC leaks whatsoever.

Good job TouchVPN.

Touch VPN also comes with Ad, trackers, and Malware blocking as well an ‘Exclude Apps’ feature, which allows selected apps to ignore the VPN connection and access the internet directly.

TouchVPN Servers and Locations

As mentioned earlier, TouchVPN doesn’t have that many servers.

However, the provider has done a good job of spreading them in over 30 locations across the Americas, Europe, Asia Pacific, and Oceania.

TouchVPN only offers Shared IPs, which is great for anonymity, but they don’t provide Dedicated IPs in any of their servers.

Also, the service does not include SmartDNS, which is another major letdown for streaming fans.

Speed and Performance

For a free service, TouchVPN delivers incredible speeds. The performance was much better than I expected but nothing compared to what you can get from the likes of NordVPN.

For an overall outlook on speed, I tested servers in the US, UK, Russia, and Turkey.

The nearest, London, UK, server delivered the fastest speeds, averaging 61.84 Mbps of our 75 Mbps baseline speed.

The US server had slightly lower speed with about 56.25 Mbps.

The performance began to dip when connected to Turkey and Russian servers, with both having an over 40% reduction in speed.

Speed before using TouchVPN74.74 Mbps
Connected to NJ, US server
56.25 Mbps (-24.74%)
Connected to London, UK server
61.84 Mbps (-17.26%)
Connected to Turkey server
42.57 Mbps (-43.04%)
Connected to Russia server
44.60 Mbps (-40.34%)

Supports Torrenting

TouchVPN doesn’t mention P2P anywhere on their website, but they support it on many of their servers.

However, it is not a VPN I would recommend for torrenting given their jurisdiction.

Also, they lack an internet kill switch which puts your identity at the risk of being exposed in the event your connection drops.

Works with Netflix

The VPN’s geo-unblocking capabilities were never in question, and as expected, the VPN allowed me to access Netflix. And thanks to the VPN’s good connections, you will be able to stream content in HD.

However, their lack of a SmartDNS proxy means you cannot stream Netflix on your TV, which kind of sucks to be honest.

Multi-platform Compatibility

TouchVPN is compatible with Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS.

If you are looking for a VPN that you can also use on your router, Smart TV, or Linux distro, you may need to look elsewhere.

TouchVPN supports multi platforms

The VPNs apps and extensions are easy to set up and use.

However, the Windows app is unstable and does not offer any customizability.

None whatsoever.

But on the other hand, I was pleased with the smartphone apps and even the Chrome extension.

What Users Are Saying About TouchVPN

I was impressed by TouchVPN.

But to give you the full picture, I decided to look at what other users were saying about the VPN. While most recent reviewers were full of praise for the VPN, I found most of the earlier users weren’t as enthusiastic.

I could only conclude that the service underwent a massive overhaul resulting in the fast, no-logs service they offer today.

Alternatives to TouchVPN

  • NordVPN
  • Surfshark

NordVPN – Premium Security

NordVPN is a fantastic VPN that’s popular for its robust security and privacy features. Their service is also suitable for bypassing geo-restriction and streaming media on Netflix and other streaming sites.

Similarly to TouchVPN, Nord uses military-grade AES 246-bit encryption with the OpenVPN protocol. They also offer DNS leak prevention, Multi-hop VPN (double encryption), and an ad and malware blocker. But unlike TouchVPN, Nord’s security and privacy features do not end there.

The VPN additionally comes with an automatic kill switch, perfect forward secrecy, and Onion over VPN, a privacy solution where your Internet traffic is rerouted through the Onion network before it reaches the Internet.

NordVPN has over 5,600 servers spread in 60 countries across and offer both Shared and Dedicated IPs. Speeds are lightning-fast and their SmartPlay feature allows you to access streaming sites with a single click.

They provide sleek, easy-to-use apps for Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, iOS, and SmartTVs. You can also get configurations for routers as well as browser extensions for Chrome and Firefox.

NordVPN is competitively priced, and a single subscription can cover up to 6 devices simultaneously.

Surfshark is another VPN that offers fast and secure connections.

They also provide ample coverage with servers in over 50 countries across six continents. However, unlike NordVPN, their servers are still in the hundreds.

Surfshark works perfectly with seamlessly with Netflix, and their speeds are a delight. They offer AES 256-bit encryption with secure protocols such as OpenVPN and IKEv2. Extra features include an automatic kill switch, DNS leak protection, and Multi-Hop VPN.

Surfshark supports nearly all platforms available today. Also, the service does not restrict the number of devices you can connect at the same time, which makes it perfect for families.

  • P2P/Torrent support
  • User-friendly apps

Another fantastic alternative for TouchVPN. is based in Hong Kong, a non-14-Eyes country, and they do not record or store activity data.

The service uses the robust AES 256 algorithm alongside OpenVPN, PPTP, and L2TP/IPsec.

Their server network, however, isn’t that great. Although at 128 servers in 24 locations they do outshine TouchVPN, the VPN is no match for NordVPN or the likes of ExpressVPN. Again they only offer Shared IPs, but I was impressed to find out they support SmartDNS.

The service is compatible with Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android, Chrome OS, and routers, but you will only get ready-to-use apps for Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android. devices is relatively affordable (find the full review), and a single license allows you to cover up to 3 devices.

A 100% Money-Back Guarantee backs all their subscriptions allowing you to try the service free of charge.

  • Military-grade encryption
  • No logs policy
  • Unlimited bandwidth
  • P2P & BitTorrent support
  • No Live Chat
  • Both lack Dedicated IPs

TouchVPN delivers excellent service for a free VPN. While it may not have fancy features, its high speeds and unlimited bandwidth are appealing.

The VPN also comes with the robust AES 256-bit encryption with OpenVPN and Hyper VPN protocols.
