TigerVPN is a fast, secure service with excellent customer support.

The VPN was founded in 2011 and evolved a lot since then.

In 2016, they relaunched their entire service complete with a new website and apps. They also added some exciting new features, including a money-back guarantee, which allows you to try the service risk-free.

But is the VPN really secure?

Are their connections fast enough?

Well, in this TigerVPN review, I’ll take a look at the features and benefits of the service and let you whether it’s worth your time and money.

Overview of TigerVPN

TigerVPN website

TigerVPN is a Slovakian-VPN service.

They have a beautiful and well-designed website that I found quite easy to navigate.

On the website, they claim to be a secure, global VPN provider for geo-unblocking and privacy seekers.

With over 300 bare-metal servers spread across 42 countries, TigerVPN does have a respectable server network.

However, it’s nothing compared to what you can get with the likes of NordVPN and ExpressVPN.

TigerVPN’s security options are impressive and true to form; they maintain a strict ‘no logging’ policy. However, they do lack a few useful privacy features, which we will discuss below.

In regards to price, the service isn’t the most affordable.

Their monthly subscription will set you back some € 11.99, but you can lower the cost by up to 77% with their long-term plans.

As mentioned earlier, the provider does offer a no questions asked refund policy, which you can exercise within the first 7 days.

Their payment options include Visa, MasterCard, Paymentwall, and PayPal.

You can also pay using Bitcoin if you are looking for an additional degree of anonymity.

And now, a look at the pros and cons.

Pros

Cons

Features and Benefits

Robust Security and Privacy

TigerVPN’s website uses SSL encryption, which secures your information and all other interactions.

Encryption and Protocols

Like every other premium VPN out there, TigerVPN primarily uses the robust AES 256-bit encryption to protect their server connections. Protocols supported include L2TP, IPsec, PPTP, and OpenVPN UDP/TCP.

The TigerVPN Windows, Mac, and Android apps ran by default on OpenVPN UDP.

If by any chance your network has blocked the port, you can easily switch to OpenVPN TCP from settings.

Although TigerVPN does offer a wide range of protocols, I would like to see them include IKEv2 in the list. The protocol allows fast connections and is the best alternative for less security-minded users.

TigerVPN additionally features a NAT Firewall that ensures you are shielded from other users when connected to a VPN server.

But on the downside, their lack of an internet kill switch can leave you exposed in the event your connection drops.

No Activity Logs

A secure VPN should keen any logs.

Thankfully, TigerVPN’s privacy policy is one of the strictest.

They claim they don’t log or share data, which is ideal for online privacy.

TigerVPN claims that they don’t log or share data

But their privacy policy goes on. The company claims to collect some information, including your email address, payment data, and session data.

However, none of the information is personally identifiable, which is good.

Privacy-Friendly Jurisdiction

TigerVPN operates out of Slovakia, a country that has a “free” rating from the Freedom House

The jurisdiction is also a non-member to the 5-Eyes, 9-Eyes, or the 14-Eyes alliances.

Servers and Locations

The VPN provides 300+ servers in 61 locations spread across 42 countries.

While the server list isn’t particularly impressive, the provider does do a great job of distributing them.

Covered regions include the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Oceania.

No Dedicated IPs

Another thing I noticed about TigerVPN is that they do not offer Dedicated IPs.

While this is good for online anonymity, it can be a disadvantage if you regularly use Netflix. The streaming service does not appreciate people using a VPN, and they are always working round the clock to detect and blacklist VPN IPs.

And with Shared IPs, it is easy for Netflix to do so.

Speed and Performance

When it comes to speed TigerVPN does not disappoint.

The VPN offers fast and stable connections across most of their servers. However, as expected, speeds do vary between servers.

I tested a few of their servers using a 75 Mbps internet connection.

The nearest servers (Europe) performed incredibly well, lowering speeds by just 7.2%. However, the same cannot be said of the servers in Australia, Oceania, and other distant locations.

Location Ping (ms) Download (Mbps) Upload (Mbps)
US (New York) 116 9.13 8.56
US (Chicago) 121 16.01 13.03
US (Miami) 126 10.57 9.76

Is Torrenting Allowed?

Yes, TigerVPN does not restrict P2P traffic.

They do, however, recommend using Amsterdam, Bucharest, and Montreal servers, which is interesting.

Unblocks Netflix

TigerVPN works well with Netflix.

However, not all servers will provide you access to the streaming, so may have to go through some trial and error.

As with many other VPNs, you may see the following message when connected to TigerVPN:

Streaming Error: You seem to be using an unblocker or proxy.

If that happens, try switching to a different server. You may also contact customer support and request a list of working servers.

TigerVPN Compatibility

TigerVPN comes with easy-to-use apps for Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS. You can also set up the service on Linux and routers through manual configuration.

The provider offers set-up guides for the supported devices to make the whole process easier.

Simultaneous Connections

Despite being relatively expensive, TigerVPN restricts users to just two simultaneous connections. To connect more devices, you will need to either upgrade your subscription or participate in their Karma Point system.

Basically, the Karma Point system involves interacting with the company on social media in exchange for points, which you can then redeem for additional connections.

Quick Customer Support (Available on Weekdays)

TigerVPN has fast customer support, available via Live Chat and Email Ticketing.

However, you can only get direct help on weekdays.

You can leave a message for them

That aside, they do offer a great help section complete with FAQs, setup guides, and troubleshooting articles.

What Others Are Saying About TigerVPN?

After testing the VPN and writing this review, I decided to scour the internet for other user comments on TigerVPN.

Overall, I found most were positive. Many users were pleased by the VPN’s compatibility as well as the fast connection speeds.

However, a few did complain about the lack of a VPN Kill Switch.

Kill-switch feature is missing

What Should You Consider Before Getting a Service Like TigerVPN?

But first, what are some of the things you should look at before getting a VPN?

As you probably know by now, not all services are created equal.

While some shine in terms of speed, others excel at security and privacy.

Basically, your pick is going to be influenced by factors such as:

Server Connection Speeds

Speed is the first thing I look at.

What use is it to get a VPN only to have it sap your entire bandwidth?

Speed is even more critical if you are a streaming fan or a gamer looking for low ping times. I recommend a VPN that offers speed optimizations for different applications.

The VPN Encryption Standard

But the main reason most people get a VPN is to secure their online activities.

If a VPN cannot do that, then why bother getting it in the first place?

You can always use a SmartDNS proxy to access restricted content.

As a security-focused user, I recommend you get yourself a VPN that offers military-grade encryption (AES 256-bit cipher) with OpenVPN or IKEv2 protocols.

You must also make sure that the VPN does not log your online activities.

You never know, the authorities might come knocking.

Preferred Server Locations

I’ve always maintained that server locations are more important than the actual number of servers.

Unless your VPN offers servers in your preferred location, you won’t be able to access content restricted to that particular location.

However, this doesn’t mean we should overlook the number of servers.

A higher number of servers will give you a better chance of finding fast, less-loaded servers.

Apps and Ease of Use

A VPN should not be complicated to set up and use.

If it requires you to be a tech expert or has a lengthy connection process, maybe you should look for an alternative.

You would do better with a VPN that offers a dedicated custom app for your device.

Customer Service

Often ignored but equally important.

A provider with reliable customer service can help you resolve issues as soon as they arise. Today that means getting a VPN that offers Live Chat or Phone support.

TigerVPN Alternatives

TigerVPN is on the upper echelon when it comes to speed.

However, if online privacy is your top priority, there are some better all-around VPNs worth checking.

NordVPN - The Premium Alternative

An excellent TigerVPN alternative.

NordVPN offers what TigerVPN lacks: An automatic kill switch, a reliable DNS leak protection, and anti-malware protection.

Based in Panama, the provider enjoys some of the best privacy laws anywhere. They guarantee a strict no-logs policy, meaning that your activities are not monitored, recorded, stored, or shared with any third party.

NordVPN has one of the largest server networks, with over 5600 servers in 60 countries. They offer both Shared and Dedicated IPs, ensuring both your privacy and streaming needs are catered for.

The VPN also comes with an advanced SmartDNS feature (SmartPlay) that allows you to access streaming sites like Netflix with a single click.

NordVPN also offers robust security and privacy.

Similarly to TigerVPN, the VPN is equipped with military-grade AES 256-bit encryption with OpenVPN. But, unlike TigerVPN, they also provide the speedy IKEv2 protocol.

Additional privacy features include Onion over VPN, Double VPN, and CyberSec, their proprietary ad, tracking, and phishing blocker.

Despite being a premium VPN, NordVPN is competitively priced.

A 30-day money-back guarantee covers all their pricing plans and with a single license, you can connect up to 6 devices simultaneously.

They provide apps for Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, Android TV, and Linux as well as browser extensions for Chrome and Firefox.

CyberGhost - The VPN That Does Everything

CyberGhost is a fantastic all-around VPN.

They offer robust security, fast speeds, and a vast server network.

The VPN is also affordable and comes with an industry-best 45-day money-back guarantee.

Back to security, CyberGhost VPN offers AES 256-bit encryption and supported protocols include OpenVPN, IKEv2, and L2TP/IPsec. And similarly to TigerVPN, they keep neither connection nor activity logs.

One of the many areas where CyberGhost outshines TigerVPN is their server network. The VPN provides access to 4800+ servers in 82 locations across 58 countries. The service reliably unblocks Netflix and comes with streaming optimized servers.

CyberGhost provides apps for Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, iOS, FireTV, and Android TV. They also offer browser extensions and configuration files for routers.

At $12.99, CyberGhost has one of the most expensive monthly plans.

They do, however, offer promotions from time to time as well as discounts of up to 72% discount with their long-term subscriptions.

The provider has an incredible 45-day money-back guarantee, and a single CyberGhost subscription covers 7 devices.

Similarities

Differences

ExpressVPN - A Fast VPN Service

ExpressVPN may have some breath-taking speeds, but that’s not the only quiver they have in their bow.

The VPN also offers excellent security and massive server network.

The British Virgin Island provider has 3,000-plus servers in 160 locations across 94 countries. The VPN offers SmartDNS in some of their servers, but like TigerVPN, they lack Dedicated IPs.

While the service is inherently fast, you can improve server speeds further thanks to split tunneling.

The feature allows select apps to bypass the VPN and access the internet directly reducing the load on your ExpressVPN connection.

Connections are protected with AES 256-bit encryption with OpenVPN, IKEv2, PPTP, and L2TP/IPsec.

The VPN further includes an automatic kill switch and DNS/WebRTC leak protection.

The major drawback with ExpressVPN is their pricing.

The month-to-month subscription costs $12.95, and their least expensive plan will set you back $8.32 per month.

But on the bright side, they do offer a 30-day money guarantee, and support for five simultaneous connections.

Final Word

It’s true TigerVPN divides opinion.

The service has a lot going for it but it also has its downsides.

So, should you get the VPN?

Well, that depends on what side of the aisle you sit at.

If you are streaming or gaming fan looking for a fast VPN service, then it should be fine.

The VPN allows access to Netflix and is also great for torrenting.

As for the privacy-focused users, you might want to look for an alternative. I found their lack of necessary features such as DNS leak protection and an internet kill switch quite troubling.

I recommend a more reliable, more robust choice – NordVPN.
