Overall Score:
7.9 / 10

Whoer VPN offers a secure service and supports high speeds in 16 countries around the world.

The VPN is reasonably priced, and its apps are easy to set up and use.

I’m always cautious whenever I connect to a public Wi-Fi.

While being convenient, open hotspots like those found in airports and coffee shops are often unsecured and can expose you to hackers and other malicious individuals.

With Whoer, you can reclaim your online privacy and safeguard sensitive data such as passwords and credit card info.

The provider offers a reliable service with impressive performance.

In this Whoer VPN review, I go over the features that make the provider stand out.

Overview of Whoer VPN

Whoer VPN website

Whoer is a VPN that offers robust security and privacy when online.

Since its entry into the scene, the Cyprus-based VPN has grown leaps and bounds. Currently, Whoer VPN has servers in 16 countries across the Americas, Europe, and the Asia Pacific.

In regards to security, Whoer uses AES 256-bit encryption with OpenVPN protocol. In addition, users get to enjoy IP and DNS leaks protection which can prove valuable if you conduct lots of sensitive business online.

The provider also maintains a strict data policy and does not keep connection or activity logs.

Whoer VPN features apps for Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android as well as browser extensions for Chrome, Firefox, and Opera.

Pros

Cons

Features and Benefits

Global Server Coverage

Whoer has servers in 16 different countries across the world.

While their server network may not be the largest, the company has done a great job of spreading the servers around.

I found multiple servers in all the major regions, including the US, UK, and Canada.

Most of the servers are optimized for streaming, and the VPN works well with BBC iPlayer, Netflix, and other premium streaming services.

Connection Speed

Despite having a limited number of servers, Whoer is surprisingly fast and reliable.

The provider offers speedy connections and delivers an enjoyable streaming experience. In our tests, Whoer VPN was fast and on average, hit about 56 percent of our normal internet speed.

Additionally, Whoer offers unlimited bandwidth, and unlike many VPNs on the market, does not oversell its services.

As such, you are unlikely to encounter any overloaded servers.

Still, connecting to a less populated server can yield faster speeds.

Privacy and Security

Whoer VPN is big on privacy and security.

Besides hiding your online identity and anonymizing your traffic, the VPN also encrypts your traffic so that it can’t be read by your ISP, local Wi-Fi provider, or internet snoopers.

There are options for multi-hop connections as well, which is a huge plus.

Whoer uses AES 256-bit encryption with RSA 2048 authentication.

There is a wide range of security protocols available allowing users to choose an option that matches their speed and privacy needs.

The one major downside I noticed with this VPN was its lack of an automatic kill switch.

However, Whoer does offer protection against WebRTC and DNS leaks, both of which are major vulnerabilities.

You can also launch Whoer VPN on startup, and make your computer invisible to others on a local area network (LAN).

Whoer VPN is based in Cyprus, which is a privacy-friendly jurisdiction.

The provider does not record user connections or browsing activities.

Also, they offer Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, and Dash payment methods for more privacy-minded users.

Netflix and BBC iPlayer

One significant benefit of a VPN is that it can give you access to geo-blocked websites. If your favorite streaming service is not available in your country, all you have to do is log in to a server located in a country where the service is available.

However, while this might work for most sites, premium services such as Netflix and iPlayer employ additional measures to detect and block VPN IPs.

As such, only a few service providers can unblock US Netflix.

And that’s what I like about Whoer.

The VPN straight up lists all the sites it claims it can unblock:

Netflix, BBC iPlayer, Amazon Prime, and Hulu. Most VPNs don’t make that kind of commitment.

So it’s good to see the provider state what they can do.

And it’s even better seeing them walk the talk.

P2P File Sharing (Torrents)

Whoer does allow peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing on some of their servers.

While its website doesn’t seem to mention torrenting at all, the reality is different.

The VPN allows you to access all your favorite torrent sites and doesn’t impose data caps and bandwidth limitations on P2P downloads.

Compatibility

Whoer supports a wide range of devices, including Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, and Android.

There are also browser integrations for Chrome, Mozilla, and Opera.

The apps are straightforward to use, making this a good choice for newbies.

Customer Support

I found Whoer’s customer support to be a bit lacking.

Although they have a reliable email support system, they could do with an online chat.

However, they do have a nice catalog of informative articles and tutorials on how to set up and use the VPN on the various supported platforms.

Price

Whoer VPN has three pricing plans: $9.90 per month billed monthly, $6.50 per month billed biannually, and $3.90 per month billed yearly.

Like most services, the longer you commit, the less you pay.

However, I would like to see Whoer do something extra with its VPN service to justify the current monthly price.

Whoer VPN does offer a free trial that has Dutch servers only and a bandwidth limit of 1Mbps. With such limitations, it only makes to get the paid version.

At the moment, the provider only accepts payments by Cryptocurrency and Electronic currencies, which is a bit restrictive.

Social Proof

When looking on the internet for user reviews on Whoer VPN, I found most were positive.

This is quite remarkable considering the VPN has only been around for a few years.

Although I still feel that Whoer could use a few improvements, overall, reviewers were impressed by the VPN features and pricing plans.

What Should You Consider Before Getting a Service Like Whoer VPN?

It never hurts to use a VPN whenever you get online.

When connected to a VPN service, your data is tunneled through an encrypted server keeping you safe and secure.

However, not all VPNs are created equal.

Before choosing your service provider, there are a few considerations you should make.

Server Coverage

The higher the number of servers, the better.

Opt for a provider that has servers in different regions across the globe.

Not only does this give you a better choice of fast servers, but also it makes it easier to unblock restricted content.

Server Speed

We all know how frustrating slow internet speeds can be.

While some VPNs are incredibly fast, others come with slow speeds and can spoil your browsing and streaming experience.

It’s essential to review the different speed rates and choose a service provider that will allow you to get the best out of your internet package.

Privacy Policy

VPN providers are obligated to comply with the data laws governing their jurisdictions.

Often, this can mean giving access to all the data stored on their servers if and when required. It, therefore, makes sense to pick a service that does not keep activity or connection logs.

P2P Support

While torrenting itself isn’t illegal, downloading copyrighted material, knowingly or unknowingly, can land you in legal trouble.

And with ISPs and copyright trolls always on the lookout for torrent users, a VPN service that supports P2P sharing can come in quite handy.

Customer Support

Even the best VPNs can develop issues.

When that happens, you want to be using a service that has reliable 24/7 customer support.

Whoer VPN Alternatives

Are there better options for Whoer?

There are many VPN service providers in the market, and a few could serve as suitable replacements for Whoer VPN.

I conducted numerous tests to find the best alternatives.

NordVPN – Premium Security

NordVPN has some of the best apps I’ve seen and delivers superb performance.

It is based in Panama, a country that sits outside the Fourteen Eyes’ sphere of influence.

The provider offers strong security and privacy features and does not toy with user data.

NordVPN has one of the largest server networks with 5100-plus servers in 60 countries. It uses advanced algorithms to suggest the best servers in your region automatically.

And as if that’s not cool enough, their proprietary SmartPlay technology bypasses geo-blocks and allows you to access any site with a single click.

Just like Whoer, NordVPN does not have a live chat feature. Unique security features include Tor over VPN and CyberSec, which guards against malware and other online threats.

NordVPN is reasonably priced and features a 7-day free trial.

A single subscription supports up to 6 devices at a go.

Similarities

Differences

ExpressVPN

If you are looking to stream HD and 4K videos, then ExpressVPN is a great option for you.

The provider has been around for over a decade and continues to offer ultra-fast speeds across all their servers.

When it comes to security, ExpressVPN does not disappoint either.

The VPN employs strong security measures and features a range of best-in-class protocols. Depending on your speed and security needs, you can choose either PPTP, L2TP/IPsec, or OpenVPN with TCP/UDP.

ExpressVPN’s split-tunneling feature is a standout as it enables users to route specific traffic through the VPN while letting the rest access the internet directly.

The provider reliably unblocks all streaming services, including Netflix, BBC iPlayer, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video virtually.

The only major drawback is price. ExpressVPN doesn’t come on the cheap, and their pricing plans are among the most expensive.

However, when you consider the overall quality of their service, it can be hard to begrudge the price.

Similarities

CyberGhost VPN

CyberGhost VPN is based in Romania and has been around since 2012.

CyberGhost overall performance is top notch.

This popular VPN service provider offers smart, intuitive apps and has servers in 59 countries across the world.

A few of their servers could use some speed improvements, but CyberGhost still serves as a good substitute for Whoer VPN

The VPN offers an incredible 1-day free trial – no credit card and login details are needed. Additionally, users get to enjoy an industry-best 45-day money-back guarantee.

CyberGhost supports up to 7 devices simultaneously and has apps for Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, Linux, and routers.

Final Word

Whoer VPN is an good option for users who are looking to stay and secure when online.

The service strikes a fine balance between speed and encryption and does not sacrifice one for the other.

It performs admirably with geo-blocked sites and given that it does not impose data caps, it’s a perfect choice for streaming movies and TV shows.

However, for that price, you can get a more reliable, more robust choice – NordVPN.
