Surfshark – Top Choice for Multiple Devices

Surfshark allows you to connect unlimited devices to the same account at the same time! This makes Surfshark the best VPN for multiple devices.

They also boast 3,200+ servers!

Another factor putting Surfshark ahead of others is its affordability with longer subscriptions. And, on top of their strict no-logs policy, they use the most robust VPN encryption to keep your data safe at all times.

They also have many privacy-minded settings, like Camouflage Mode, MultiHop, and No Borders mode, along with VPN browser extensions for Google Chrome and Firefox.

The only place Surfshark drops the ball is in needing to turn the kill switch on yourself. Luckily, you only need to do so once for each device!

Plus, the Surfshark app was easy to install on all my devices – including my husband’s tablet. I’m yet to find a device Surfshark doesn’t work on.

There’s even a native app for Linux Ubuntu and Linux Debian!

I also found their customer service very friendly and knowledgeable. The live chat staff is eager to help without sending you to the FAQs or telling you to open a ticket instead.

And if that’s not enough to convince you, perhaps the ability to access streaming sites like NetflixHulu, and BBC iPlayer will!

Nevertheless, if you’re unsatisfied, the VPN provider also offers a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Pros

Cons

NordVPN – Best Security Features

NordVPN provides everything you need for the best online experience – including 6 simultaneous connections and a multitude of compatible devices!

While not the cheapest VPN, NordVPN’s pricing is reasonable, and you get what you pay for. You can also access an exclusive deal by clicking here.

Plus, no matter what device you use, the app is easy to install and use. If you do need help, however, their customer support is friendly and reliable.

For example, they’ll recommend specific servers based on what you’re looking for – whether that’s speed, streaming Netflix, or changing your IP address to that of another country.

And let’s not forget they offer some of the best VPN security features I’ve ever seen!

This includes a strict no-logs policy, Double VPN feature, military-grade encryption, and Onion Over VPN tool for accessing the Tor network.

You also get a 30-day money-back guarantee!

Pros

Cons

ExpressVPN – TrustedServer Technology

ExpressVPN is one of the best virtual private networks for multiple devices because it allows up to 5 simultaneous connections!

And much like NordVPN, ExpressVPN’s prices are that of a premium VPN service – though you can unlock an exclusive deal by clicking this link.

Better yet, the app is available for almost every device, including Linux. They even offer VPN browser extensions for Google Chrome, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge

You won’t need to fiddle around with the settings either. If you aren’t looking for a specific location (or VPN use, like streaming), you can immediately connect to a recommended server for the fastest speeds.

Speaking of streaming – ExpressVPN is great at it! Not only can you access Netflix and Hulu, but you can also use a UK server to access BBC iPlayer

This is in part thanks to the provider’s MediaStreamer service, which utilizes DNS settings on Smart TVs and gaming consoles to unblock streaming apps.

Plus, all 3,000+ ExpressVPN servers use their exclusive TrustedServer technology!

In other words: there’s never any data on the server’s hard drive. This adds a unique level of confidence to ExpressVPN’s strict no-logs policy.

There are a few drawbacks to using ExpressVPN, however. The provider doesn’t offer a Double VPN feature or automatic updates in the app.

Fortunately, if you’re unsatisfied with your purchase, the provider offers a 30-day money-back guarantee!

Pros

Cons

CyberGhost – Large Server Network

CyberGhost isn’t in my top 3 for the best VPNs to use on multiple devices, but with its inclusion of 7 simultaneous connections, it certainly deserves its spot as one of the best!

The provider’s security standards are also on par with the top 3, offering military-grade encryption and a strict no-logs policy.

Plus, their apps work on just about every device. This includes browser extensions for Google Chrome and Firefox! And while their plans come at a premium cost, you can unlock an exclusive discount here.

The provider also recommends individual servers for activities like streaming and has dedicated servers for specific streaming platforms like RokuNetflix and Disney+!

A caveat – CyberGhost doesn’t work in restricted areas like China. If you need to conquer the Great Firewall, you’re better-suited for another VPN on this list!

If you already purchased a CyberGhost subscription, don’t worry! The provider offers a 45-day money-back guarantee!

Pros

Cons

IPVanish – Anonymous Torrenting

IPVanish is another great VPN offering unlimited simultaneous connections – and a long history in the industry!

That history isn’t without blemish, though. One of the provider’s previous parent companies broke their no-logs policy by giving user data to government agencies.

However, since IPVanish was taken over by new management, they’ve regained their users’ trust by doubling-down on security and privacy measures!

This is in addition to their other features, including dedicated setups for P2P connections and access to censored media! For example, the VPN provider is great for streaming Roku, Netflix or using Kodi add-ons

Plus, they’re a lot cheaper than the premium providers, making them another budget-friendly option worth considering. Click here to try the VPN now – 30-day money-back guarantee included!

The catch, however, is they only have 1,600+ servers.

Pros

Cons

Private Internet Access – SOCKS5 Proxy

Private Internet Access – or PIA for short – puts your security and privacy first while also offering 10 simultaneous connections.

You can install and use the user-friendly app on any supported device immediately after paying for a subscription. This includes the VPN browser extensions for Google Chrome, Firefox, and Opera.

Use this link to try it risk-free.

Additionally, on top of their no-logs policy, PIA gives users the option of using the OpenVPN and WireGuard VPN protocols or the SOCKS5 proxy.

They claim to have a massive server network – 34,551 servers.

However, these servers are shared with other VPN providers owned by their parent company, Private Internet Access Inc. (formerly Kape Technologies).

Still, the wide variety of servers makes streaming BBC iPlayer or Netflix easy!

And if you are unsatisfied, you can always utilize PIA’s 30-day money-back guarantee!

Pros

Cons

VeePN – 10 Simultaneous Connections

VeePN isn’t as well-known as the other VPNs on my list – but they’re certainly worth knowing with their 10 simultaneous devices allowance!

And they have the apps to make it work!

The provider also boasts a large server network with 2,500+ servers around the world. While connected to any of them, you’re also protected by their no-logs policy.

That said, the VPN falls short on some top features. So while they have the potential to be one of the best, their pricing is too steep at the present.

Fortunately, you can unlock an exclusive discount here!

VeePN also offers a 30-day money-back guarantee for unsatisfied users!

Pros

Cons

Ivacy VPN – 2TB Encrypted Cloud Storage

Ivacy VPN is another great contender in the top VPN for multiple devices, as it allows you up to 10 simultaneous connections!

I also put the provider’s claim of unblocking all major streaming services to the test – and I’m happy to report it’s true!

However, the streaming quality is nothing to brag about.

With Ivacy VPN, you also benefit from a strict no-logs policy, easy app installation on all major devices, and the best available encryption methods to keep your data safe.

This includes an exclusive bonus: 2TB of encrypted cloud storage for free!

While their monthly fee is a little steep – barely cheaper than the premium VPNs – you’ll save by choosing their 2 Years Plan or by clicking here.

However, keep in mind Ivacy only offers a 7-day money-back guarantee.

Pros

Cons

VyprVPN – Chameleon Protocol

I have a love-hate relationship with VyprVPN, though their offering of 5 simultaneous connections increases that love tenfold.

The provider also offers a unique Chameleon protocol specially designed to beat VPN blocks and give you a safer, more private connection. It’s based on OpenVPN so that you won’t miss out on excellent security.

But there’s a catch.

Although VyprVPN allows for up to 5 simultaneous connections, they have less than 1,000 servers. This means your VPN speed might suffer.

Still, you’ll enjoy the no-logs policy, variety of supported devices, and access to streaming sites like Roku, Netflix (US and UK) thanks to their Vypr DNS service!

Try them out now by clicking here. If you’re not a satisfied customer, you can utilize VyprVPN’s 30-day money-back guarantee to get your money back!

Pros

Cons

PrivateVPN – Fast VPN Speeds

With PrivateVPN, you can connect to a VPN server on up to 6 devices at the same time!

This means streaming Netflix and BBC iPlayer on multiple devices is easy!

The VPN provider also boasts some of the fastest VPN speeds I’ve ever seen, and their easy-to-use apps allow you to get started quickly.

However, while PrivateVPN offers the basics for security features, I found them lacking in some areas. They also have a small server network – which makes their VPN speeds admittedly impressive!

Nevertheless, they remain an affordable VPN for beginners. Opt for a longer subscription plan to take advantage of their savings, or click here!

Plus, if you end up regretting your decision, you can get your money back with PrivateVPN’s 30-day money-back guarantee!

Pros

Cons

HMA VPN – IP Shuffle Feature

Although HMA VPN only offers 1,100+ servers, regular users are allowed up to 5 simultaneous connections.

However, if you switch to the Family Plan, HMA doubles it – so you can use 10 devices at the same time! Try HMA risk-free thanks to its 30-day money-back guarantee by clicking here.

It’s also worth mentioning HMA is another provider with a less-than-ideal past.

Like IPVanish, its previous owners were caught handing users’ private data to government agencies, breaching their no-logs policy.

However, in a similar vein, HMA changed tactics and is working hard to regain its reputation. To this effect, they doubled-down on their logging policy and added extra security and privacy features.

Throw in their ability to unblock streaming sites like Netflix and Hulu, and you’ve got a great deal!

Pros

Cons

PureVPN – 7-Day Free Trial

PureVPN website

The last of the 12 best VPNs for multiple devices is PureVPN, with its 10 simultaneous connections allowance!

Unfortunately, this is another VPN with a history of giving user data to the FBI – they were involved in the same case as IPVanish.

However, like IPVanish, PureVPN has improved just about everything since 2017.

For example, they added previously missing security features. They also more than tripled the number of servers they own, improving their speed output.

And their customer support is infinitely better!

Moreover, PureVPN offers dedicated apps and setup guides for more than 20 device types, including browser extensions and operating systems, along with P2P support and split tunneling.

You can also use the VPN provider to unblock Roku, Netflix US!

All told, their pricing is better justified now than it was before. You can try the VPN out for free with their 7-day trial, or click here for an exclusive discount.

And if you aren’t happy after purchasing a subscription, you can utilize PureVPN’s 31-day money-back guarantee!

Pros

Cons

Free VPNs for Multiple Devices

I don’t usually recommend using a free VPN for anything.

However, when you can’t afford my Best Value recommendation for a VPN that supports multiple (unlimited!) simultaneous connections, there are a few free VPNs worth using.

AtlasVPN – Free Service With Restrictions

Atlas VPN header

AtlasVPN is a paid service. However, you can access the free version by downloading the app for Android, iOS, and Windows

And, with a quick trick, you can unlock unlimited simultaneous connections

Unfortunately, with the free version, you miss out on most of the security features – though you’re still protected. The good news is, no matter how many devices you download the app on, each installation is treated separately.

As mentioned above, this quick trick makes for a nice workaround in getting the same unlimited simultaneous connections as premium VPN users!

You can also access 3 VPN locations: the US, Japan, and Australia.

That said, I still recommend upgrading to premium as soon as you can, as the free version only supports IPSec/IKEv2 protocols.

ProtonVPN – Free Service With 1 Connection

I’m a fan of all Proton services, including ProtonVPN’s free version! However, you only get 1 connection with the free version.

Fortunately, you can use a similar workaround as with AtlasVPN: install the app on all of your devices and use a different email address for each one!

The easiest way to do so is to use a free Proton Mail address each time.

Unfortunately, features are missing from the free version, and you only have access to 3 VPN locations. For this reason, it’s still worth upgrading in the future.

Hotspot Shield – Free Service With Limited Bandwidth

Hotspot Shield website

If you desperately need a free VPN and the others aren’t working, Hotspot Shield is a safer bet than the remaining alternatives, though it only offers 1 connection.

It’s also not as easy to get around the 1 connection limitation. But if you use different email addresses for each, you’ll still manage to do so.

The provider also limits your free use even more than AtlasVPN and ProtonVPN. You’ll have limited bandwidth, little to no support, a bunch of ads, and very few servers to choose from.

When you’re ready to upgrade, Hotspot Shield’s premium option will give you 5 simultaneous connections and access to 3,200+ servers at a very affordable monthly fee.

Multi-Device VPNs for Small and Medium Businesses

For business use, it’s always better to choose a business solution.

Luckily, there are great multi-device VPNs for small and medium businesses. And as your company grows, these solutions give you the ability to scale your VPN protection accordingly.

NordVPN for Teams – 6 Connections Per One End-User

NordVPN Teams is my number one pick here, especially as it allows up to 6 simultaneous connections per one end-user!

The cloud VPN service lets you use your existing business credentials to log in, minimizing the number of login details your employees need to memorize and keep secure.

You’ll benefit from all of the same security and privacy features as the regular NordVPN plans offer – but appropriately scaled to protect your employees at all times!

The Basic and Advanced plans have a fixed per-user price model. However, you can also request an upgrade to the Enterprise plan uniquely customized to suit your needs.

Perimeter 81 – 5 Connections Per One End-User

Perimeter 81 doesn’t trail far behind NordVPN Teams as a Business VPN solution, as it offers up to 5 simultaneous connections per one end-user.

They offer almost all of the same benefits, including network monitoring with administrative access and easy-to-use apps for all devices.

The Essentials Plan offers all of the basics, while Premium offers prioritized support and a more comprehensive administrative tool range.

Twingate – 1 Connection Per One End-User

Twingate VPN

The last up is Twingate, though it only offers 1 connection per one end-user.

Twingate is a service designed to allow your IT department to quickly and efficiently implement the business VPN solution for distributed protection.

The administrative console helps you ensure employees onboard themselves properly while also monitoring against system abuse.

Small businesses with up to 50 members will benefit from the cost-effective Teams Plan. However, if you have up to 150 employees, you’ll want to upgrade to a Business Plan.

How to Choose the Best VPN for Multiple Devices?

Not sure how to get started using your VPN or which is the better option for you personally? I can’t decide for you – but I can make the process easier!

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed when trying to find the right VPN service for multiple devices – but it doesn’t have to be!

After years of testing hundreds of VPNs, I’m comfortable recommending not only the best VPNs for multiple devices but also what to look for in those VPNs (and others)!

I outlined each essential feature in the checklist below. If you consult it when shopping for a VPN, your decision will be easier to make!

Features and Criteria

Here’s my checklist:

  • Many simultaneous connections. The best VPN for multiple devices will offer a minimum of 5 simultaneous connections, though 6 to 10 (or unlimited) is preferred. The more simultaneous connections the VPN offers, the more devices you can use at one time.
  • A variety of compatible devices. Similar to simultaneous connections, you need a virtual private network compatible with various devices – such as Windows, Linux, Mac, iOS, Android, Smart TVs, laptops, desktop PCs, tablets, phones, and others. The more devices the VPN is compatible with, the more devices you can use with the VPN app.
  • Fast server speeds. For activities like streaming, torrenting, and even general internet browsing, a VPN with fast server speeds is essential. Without a fast VPN, your WiFi connection will slow considerably. We discuss this in more detail below!
  • A large server network. Speaking of streaming and torrenting – if you want to enjoy either, your VPN needs a large server network. This is usually 1500+ servers, though we prefer 2000 or more. The server network should also include a variety of countries, so if one server isn’t working correctly, you can switch to a new one in the same location.
  • The best security features. The best VPN for multiple devices will include the best security features – primarily military-grade encryption (256-bit AES), the best VPN protocols (OpenVPN, IKEv2, Wireguard), and a kill switch. However, other valuable security features include a Double VPN, split tunneling, and features exclusive to individual VPN providers.
  • A no-logs policy. Any worthy VPN will have a strict no-logs policy and adhere to it. Usually this requires reading through Privacy Policies and Terms & Conditions. However, in this guide, we did the hard part for you. Every VPN entry is accompanied by information on its privacy policy.
  • Affordable prices. This last one is somewhat complicated, as some of the best VPNs for multiple devices come with a premium price tag. The key is finding out if the included features are that of a premium VPN. If so, a premium price tag makes sense. However, if a VPN’s service lacks in any of the areas discussed above, its price should reflect that.

Now that you know what to look for in the best VPN for multiple devices let’s discuss how to use your VPN on multiple devices!

How to Use a VPN On Multiple Devices?

To use a VPN on multiple devices, follow these steps:

  1. Choose one of the VPNs offering multiple devices and connections. My recommendation is Surfshark, as it’s a budget-friendly option with unlimited simultaneous connections.
  2. Register for an account, download the app and install it on your device.
  3. Install the app on your other devices. Always do so through the VPN provider’s website to avoid downloading a fake one.
  4. The first time you log in to the app, you’ll be asked to enter an account activation or verification code. Do so on all your devices.
  5. Choose a server and connect!

Speed Test Results of Recommended VPNs

I’ve done many speed tests for VPNs in my time, but usually only using one device.

For this reason, I wanted to make sure when you choose the best VPN for multiple devices, your WiFi connection isn’t in for a speed loss!

Here are the speeds I got for my top 3 recommendations, comparing 1 connection to 5:

Provider 1 Device Connected 5 Devices Connected
Surfshark 83.45 Mbps 81.94 Mbps
NordVPN 75.66 Mbps 74.11 Mbps
ExpressVPN 81.20 Mbps 80.21 Mbps

If keeping a fast connection is as essential to you as it is to me, then Surfshark certainly takes the cake!

However, I noticed ExpressVPN offers the least amount of speed loss when comparing 1 device to 5 devices connected.

This is why ExpressVPN is an excellent premium option as a virtual private network for multiple connections. And of course, Surfshark offers the best value for money!

In my opinion, Surfshark is the best VPN service provider for multiple devices and connections in 2021, with NordVPN and ExpressVPN coming in second and third.

Surfshark lets you connect all of your devices at the same time without any limitations. And from my top 3 picks, they also give you the best internet speed!
