However, when you can’t afford my Best Value recommendation for a VPN that supports multiple (unlimited!) simultaneous connections, there are a few free VPNs worth using.
Windscribe – Free Plan With Unlimited Connections and a 10 GB Cap
Windscribe is the free VPN I’d install first on a houseful of devices, because it doesn’t count connections at all. The free tier carries the same unlimited simultaneous connections as the paid Pro plan, so one login covers every phone, laptop, tablet, and TV box in the home without the email-address juggling the two free services below need.
The limit is data, not devices. You get 10 GB a month once you confirm your email address (2 GB if you skip that step), and a one-off post about Windscribe on X adds 5 GB more every month for good. No credit card is involved.

I’m a fan of all Proton services, including ProtonVPN’s free version! However, you only get 1 connection with the free version.
Fortunately, there’s a workaround: install the app on all of your devices and sign up with a different email address on each one!
The easiest way to do so is to use a free Proton Mail address each time.
Unfortunately, features are missing from the free version, and you only get servers in ten countries, assigned at random. For this reason, it’s still worth upgrading in the future.
Hotspot Shield – Free Service With Limited Bandwidth
If you desperately need a free VPN and the others aren’t working, Hotspot Shield is a safer bet than the remaining alternatives, though it only offers 1 connection.
It’s also not as easy to get around the 1 connection limitation. But if you use different email addresses for each, you’ll still manage to do so.
The provider also limits your free use even more than Windscribe and ProtonVPN. You’ll have limited bandwidth, little to no support, and just one US location, and most video can’t be streamed on it.

For business use, it’s always better to choose a business solution.
Luckily, there are great multi-device VPNs for small and medium businesses. And as your company grows, these solutions give you the ability to scale your VPN protection accordingly.

NordVPN Teams is my number one pick here, especially as it allows up to 6 simultaneous connections per one end-user!

Similar to simultaneous connections, you need a virtual private network compatible with various devices – such as Windows, Linux, Mac, iOS, Android, Smart TVs, laptops, desktop PCs, tablets, phones, and others. The more devices the VPN is compatible with, the more devices you can use with the VPN app.
- Fast server speeds. For activities like streaming, torrenting, and even general internet browsing, a VPN with fast server speeds is essential. Without a fast VPN, your WiFi connection will slow considerably. We discuss this in more detail below!
- A large server network. Speaking of streaming and torrenting – if you want to enjoy either, your VPN needs a large server network. This is usually 1500+ servers, though we prefer 2000 or more. The server network should also include a variety of countries, so if one server isn’t working correctly, you can switch to a new one in the same location.
- The best security features. The best VPN for multiple devices will include the best security features – primarily military-grade encryption (256-bit AES), the best VPN protocols (OpenVPN, IKEv2, Wireguard), and a kill switch. However, other valuable security features include a Double VPN, split tunneling, and features exclusive to individual VPN providers.
