CyberGhost provides a kill switch, which is integrated on all its supported devices and enabled by default. Likewise, you can toggle the CyberGhost kill switch setting on/off on some of its PC apps, allowing greater flexibility over the tool.

Keep reading to learn how to configure the CyberGhost kill switch on PC and mobile platforms. I’ll also test the kill switch and tell you what to do if it doesn’t work.

How to Configure the CyberGhost Kill Switch?

CyberGhost’s kill switch is enabled by default on all devices.

CyberGhost Kill Switch Test: Does It Work?

It’s not a great idea to just assume everything will work perfectly and wait for a real failure to put it to the test.

Here’s how you can test the CyberGhost kill switch does what it’s intended:

  1. Connect to your desired VPN location.

  1. Go to a page refreshing tool on your browser.
  2. Enter “ip-api.com” and set a refreshing frequency. I’ve set it to “2 seconds” for this test.

  1. Click “Start/Stop.” You’ll get a pop-up window with your IP address and server location details.
  2. Scroll down to see the VPN connectivity details. If it matches the VPN’s, then the VPN (not the kill switch) works.

  1. Now, simulate a connection drop to test the kill switch. Some ways to do this include switching WiFi networks, switching servers, or disconnecting and reconnecting to your WiFi network. For this example, I’ve switched servers.
  2. If the kill switch is working correctly, you should get the error messages as shown below rather than your leaked IP address.

What Should I Do if the CyberGhost Kill Switch Doesn't Work?

Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the kill switch if it doesn’t work:

  • Windows PC users should ensure the kill switch feature in the app settings is enabled.
  • Ensure you’re running the latest version of the CyberGhost app and that it’s compatible with your device and operating system.
  • Double check that there are no issues with your network adapter or firewall settings.
  • Switch to a different VPN protocol and see if that makes any difference.
  • Disconnect the VPN and kill the app from the task manager. Open it again and reconnect.
  • Contact CyberGhost’s customer support team and report the problem. They’re available 24/7 and can help you troubleshoot and resolve the issue.
