If you’ve got a huge library of PC games you want to use with GeForce Now from anywhere, you’ll need a VPN.

The VPN I use is NordVPN.

NordVPN is my top choice for GeForce Now, as it provides super-fast speeds and razor-sharp visuals, perfect for pulling an all-nighter on Destiny 2!

NordVPN also has some of the lowest ping rates I’ve seen with a VPN service and a vast server network full of supported locations for seamless GeForce Now access.

That’s not to say NordVPN is the only choice, though.

I also found a few other providers close to NordVPN’s speeds and GeForce Now unblocking, such as Surfshark and PrivateVPN.

The Ultimate VPN for GeForce Now

With over 5200 servers worldwide, NordVPN swoops the top spot for unblocking GeForce Now from anywhere, providing little to no lag and uninterrupted gaming, thanks to low ping and blistering-fast speeds.

An In-Depth List of the Five Best VPNs for Geforce Now

Ready to have your burning questions about the best VPNs for GeForce Now answered?

I hope so.

Let’s do this.

1. NordVPN - Best Overall VPN for GeForce Now

NordVPN steals the top spot for the best GeForce Now VPNs around, thanks to its reliable connection speeds and ability to cope with high bandwidth activities, like playing CoD and New World.

Check out the speeds I got with and without NordVPN enabled:

Speeds without NordVPN:

Speeds with NordVPN:

speed with nordvpn 1

NordVPN is on par with CyberGhost and Surfshark, with a reasonable ping of just 5 ms.

NordVPN boasts a network of over 5200 servers in 60 countries, so you’ll have no trouble finding a supported GeForce Now location.

Aside from its connection wins, GeForce Now players choose NordVPN for its DDoS protection that prevents rage-quitting players you’ve just owned from hitting you with a DDoS attack!

Check out this IRL example of someone getting sweaty and launching one of these bad boys!

NordVPN has apps for all devices that support GeForce Now, including Windows, so you can stream your favorite games without the need for a beefed-up PC!

You’ll also benefit from a double VPN that encrypts your device data twofold and provides a new IP address twice.

For gamers accessing GeForce Now in heavily censored countries, the double VPN feature can increase the success rate of beating scanners that detect and block your connection to the Nvidia servers.

Other than Surfshark, NordVPN is the only other VPN on my list to feature a double VPN.

NordVPN is also one of the only providers alongside CyberGhost to offer a dedicated IP address add-on.

This provides less interruption than a dynamic IP address for gaming but costs $70 per year on top of the standard sub fee.

Considering the features provided with NordVPN, prices are incredibly reasonable, and if you’d like to save even more, try my exclusive discount link.

2. PrivateVPN - The No-Fuss VPN for GeForce Now

Next on my list of recommended VPNs for GeForce Now is PrivateVPN.

It took the second spot, as it just scraped past Surfshark with lower ping, and during my New World tests with GeForce Now, produced a smooth stream that was playable on my Windows PC.

Check out the speeds below for an example of what I experienced during my tests:

Speeds without PrivateVPN:

PrivateVPN is the most user-friendly VPN and the only VPN on my list that requires no installation

You hit download, connect, and go!

This is especially useful for gamers in a hurry or those who want to jump back into CoD from a device in a restricted country using GeForce Now.

Server switches do take some time to connect, which can be frustrating.

For example, when I connected to the UK and switched to the US, there was a considerable delay before getting a “connected” message.

Although there isn’t a huge server network available, gamers who download PrivateVPN before heading to China can unblock GeForce Now without detection.

PrivateVPN is an excellent VPN for gamers on a budget and includes all of the features you could ask for to unblock GeForce Now.

3. Surfshark - The GeForce Now VPN With Unlimited Device Connections

Stealing third place as the multi-device option for GeForce Now is Surfshark, allowing you to stream games on as many devices as you’d like at once.

Surfshark is the only VPN on my list with unlimited simultaneous connections.

Surfshark offers 3,200+ servers in 65 locations globally and is the only VPN on my list to offer two obfuscation settings to unblock GeForce Now in heavily censored countries.

As for speed and latency, Surfshark is hot on the heels of PrivateVPN, almost matching the ping in my tests and just scraping ahead of PrivateVPN for its download speeds.

Unfortunately, New World is a PC exclusive, so I couldn’t use it to test Surfshark on other GeForce Now devices.

Instead, I tried Dead By Daylight on macOS and Windows.

During my tests, both devices performed remarkably.

The Mac took a moment to load visuals at the start of a match during my one-hour GeForce Now window, but once it loaded, it played smoothly.

dead by daylight

When I tested the same game with Camouflage Mode enabled via OpenVPN, I did find gameplay was laggier, so I recommend avoiding OpenVPN if you can.

Much like the other VPNs on my list, Surfshark has apps for every GeForce Now platform, including Mac OS, Windows, Android (smartphone/tablet), and Android TV.

Split tunneling for splitting your GeForce Now VPN traffic from other internet activities is also useful, and DDOS protection helps deter any sweats lurking in the shadows, waiting to pounce on your connection.

Surfshark has some of the best prices on our list, and considering the unlimited device benefit, you could share the plan with other players (if you trust them) and save even further with my exclusive discount link.

4. ExpressVPN - The Widest Server Coverage

ExpressVPN launches into position four on my list of the best VPNs for GeForce Now.

Although it didn’t top the high speeds or low ping of NordVPN, it came out on top for the most extensive selection of over 3000 servers in 94 countries, providing servers in almost every country where GeForce Now is supported like the US, the UK, and Japan.

Here are some speed insights I got when testing ExpressVPN with Windows.

Speeds without ExpressVPN:

baseline speed

Speeds with ExpressVPN:

speed test result with expressvpn

Although the ping is the highest on my list, I tested ExpressVPN with New World on my Windows (non-gaming) laptop, and considering the CPU intensiveness, it produced a lag-free experience.

new world

While ExpressVPN doesn’t offer a double VPN feature like NordVPN, it does have DDOS protection like NordVPN and Surfshark, and a helpful split tunneling option.

This lets you choose which traffic and apps are sent via a private VPN tunnel while all your other internet activities go directly.

Much like all other providers on my list, ExpressVPN gives you a 30-day money-back guarantee.

So if the blistering speeds aren’t worth the extra cash for you, you can switch to another provider after 30 days.

ExpressVPN comes in as the most expensive VPN on my list, but as they say, you get what you pay for.

If ExpressVPN sounds like a VPN for you, use my discount link and save big on the regular price.

5. CyberGhost - Speciality Servers Optimized for Gaming

cyberghost vpn 3 year plan deal

CyberGhost snaps up fifth place on my recommended VPNs for GeForce Now.

CyberGhost is the only other VPN besides NordVPN that provides a dedicated IP as a monthly extra at $5, and you’ll enjoy 90 server locations with a network of 6,900+ total servers.

The split tunneling feature could have been useful, but it’s only available for Android, unlike Surfshark and NordVPN’s split tunneling that’s available across platforms.

That’s fine if you’re using Geforce Now on Android, but for most, it’s a useless feature.

Initially, I looked forward to trying the specialized gaming servers that other VPNs on my list didn’t offer after getting incredible speeds on the primary servers, but I was underwhelmed.

As you can see from the tests below on a standard server on a Windows device, speeds are generally good, producing a better ping than ExpressVPN and matching Surfshark.

When I tried the optimized gaming servers, the results weren’t as impressive.

While the ping was similar to the rest of the servers, download speeds dropped significantly, leaving me with choppy and laggy New World gameplay.

It does make you wonder what games these servers are optimized for!

Stick with your closest server for the win.

CyberGhost comes in just behind ExpressVPN as one of the pricier VPNs on my list, but if you fancy taking it for a spin, you can get a cheaper deal here.

How I Chose the Best VPN for GeForce Now

When I selected the best VPNs for GeForce Now, I put them through their paces to ensure they were a good fit for what we gamers need.

Check out the following criteria to understand what I look for in the best VPNs:

  • Speed is what will cause you the most issues if the VPN is unreliable. That’s why I test the VPNs rather than just take the provider’s word for how great their speeds are.
  • Privacy and security in a VPN ensure your connection remains private at all times, so the VPNs I selected will never expose you for button spamming or modding games to give you an unfair (but fun) advantage.
  • Server network and locations are super important if you’re using a VPN in a country that isn’t supported. What’s the use of a VPN with places that aren’t supported by GeForce Now?
  • Value means a lot to me for a VPN, which is ultra-important when you could already be paying for a GeForce Now sub. The choices I listed include some excellent prices, with the most significant discounts on 1 or 2 yearly plans to mount those savings.
  • Gaming performance is vital. There’s no point using a VPN if a game is unplayable. Although I tested the VPNs on this list with New World on my pumped RTX 3080 PC, I also tried them with other games like Dead by Daylight, Portal 2, and Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla on my non-gaming laptop to check performance.

How to Use a VPN With GeForce Now? Follow These Steps

Getting started with a VPN and GeForce Now is pretty easy, but here’s a helping hand for those who need it.

This tutorial is for NordVPN on Windows devices with GeForce Now, so it may differ between devices and providers.

  1. Check whether your country is on the supported GeForce Now list. If not, you’ll need a VPN.
  2. If you don’t have one already, sign up for an Nvidia GeForce Now account. I recommend creating a free account for this tutorial, letting you join a queue to enjoy a one-hour playtime.
  3. Download the GeForce Now app for Windows and follow the installation prompts.
  4. Link your Steam, Epic Store, GOG, or Ubisoft games libraries to access your libraries on GeForce Now.
  5. Sign up for any of the VPNs on this list. I recommend NordVPN.
  6. Download and install the NordVPN app for Windows and follow the installation steps.
  7. Run NordVPN and log in using the credentials you used during registration.
  8. Click “quick-connect,” and you’ll be connected to your nearest VPN server. Select a server location from the left-hand server list to connect if you’re in an unsupported GeForce Now country.
  9. Head back to the GeForce Now app and select one of your games.
  10. GeForce Now will assign you a rig, and you’ll be placed in a queue.

  1. Once you reach the last queue position, you’ll be entered into your game, ready to play!

You’re now rocking a VPN to enjoy your favorite games on GeForce Now!

The Best Optimization Settings for Geforce Now + Your VPN to Get the Best Speeds

Me telling you how I’ve tested the VPNs on this list to produce epic speeds is one thing, but the settings on your device can impact how well your games perform with GeForce Now.

Once you get up and running with a VPN and GeForce Now, use the following steps to optimize your experience.

You can edit these settings from the GeForce Now app or within a Chrome browser, but for the following example, I’ve revised the settings on the Windows app.

  • If your internet speeds are borderline to the minimum required download speeds for GeForce Now, you can enable an option to cope with the poor network conditions.
  • Set your FPS to 60 if the option is available. Gaming at 30 FPS can be horrible but necessary if your connection isn’t up to the task of 60 FPS.
  • To avoid screen tearing, you should enable Vsync.
  • If you’re experiencing choppy gameplay, try dropping the resolution where possible.
  • Disable other apps that might be using your bandwidth, such as torrents, video streaming apps, or other games running in the background.
  • Disable your antivirus if necessary, as it could be slowing your system with on-demand scans that you may not know about.
  • Adjust the bitrate to the highest level available (assuming GeForce Now is the only thing running on your device).

GeForce Now Not Working With VPN? Troubleshoot Using These Steps

If you’re having issues connecting to GeForce Now, you’re not alone.

Several tried and tested methods can fix most problems for a seamless GeForce Now experience.

Update GeForce Experience

If you’re running an outdated version of the Nvidia GeForce experience for Windows, it can cause errors when connecting to GeForce Now with a VPN.

I recommend updating the software to see if you can get back in the game.

Getting a VPN Error Even When the VPN Is Disabled?

This issue is more common among those who aren’t using a VPN, but it’s also known to impact players who alternate between a VPN and a direct connection.

Follow these steps (for Windows) to try and resolve your issue:

  1. Open “Control Panel” and navigate to Network And Security.
  2. Select Network Connections and check if “WMware Network Adapter” is enabled.
wmware network adapter
  1. You may have two of these connections. Disable them both.

Is the Server Location Supported?

Many countries haven’t got the GeForce Now treatment (hence the need for a VPN), so it’s worth checking if the server you chose is on the supported countries list.

Switch Servers

If you’re connecting to a supported server location and you’re experiencing lag or connection errors, try switching servers.

For example, if you are connecting to a Chicago server in the US, try changing to Miami.

If you still have issues, I recommend pinging your VPN provider’s support team to see if they can help you.

Best Server for GeForce Now

The best server for GeForce Now will depend on your physical GPS location.

Though I believe the “best” server provides the lowest ping and connection speeds, other players might consider other factors when choosing the “best” server.

The general rule for finding the fastest server for GeForce Now is selecting a location where GeForce Now isn’t blocked.

Next, you should connect to your nearest server (NordVPN will choose this for you with its quick-connect option).

For example, you should select a French server location if you’re located in France.

For those in the UK, stick with a UK server.

You get the idea!

Will a VPN Impact Lag and Ping?

Yes, a VPN may impact lag and ping, but not necessarily in a negative way.

When you connect to the internet directly via your ISP’s (internet service provider) network, you’re utilizing the exchange that’s nearest your physical location, and your ping may fluctuate significantly.

When you introduce a VPN, your traffic is connected via the VPN’s network to a nearby server, and often the VPN stabilizes your ping instead of it bouncing all over the place.

Can I Use a Free VPN With GeForce Now?

You can use a free VPN for GeForce Now, but I don’t recommend it.

Free VPNs often don’t have the required level of encryption to protect your connection and can’t always bypass geo-restrictions set by GeForce Now.

Aside from struggling to access GeForce Now, many VPN services, especially those from app stores, require a considerable number of permissions that could allow the provider to spy on you or steal your data.

Free VPNs still require staffing to maintain servers, and they cannot do this if they aren’t making any money.

Some providers get around this by selling your data to third parties for marketing purposes without your consent.

In other words, stick with providers like NordVPN instead of going for a free VPN.

Can I Use a VPN for GeForce Now in India?

Yes, you can use a VPN to access GeForce Now in India.

If you’re connecting from a device from India, simply use a VPN like Surfshark, connect to a server location that supports GeForce Now, and you’ll be streaming games before you know it!

Can I Use a VPN for Geforce Now in Brazil?

Yes, you can use a VPN in Brazil to enjoy GeForce Now by selecting a provider like NordVPN, connecting to a supported server (like one in the neighboring US), and you’ll be ready to play your favorite games.

That wraps up our best VPNs for GeForce Now.

They all come with little to no lag, keep your privacy safe, and let you play your favorite games from anywhere!

Although every provider on this list is an exceptional VPN option, I still recommend NordVPN as the best.

As a reminder, NordVPN produces lightning-fast speeds and low latency for lag-free gaming.

There’s an option for a dedicated IP address add-on, and you’ll also get split tunneling and DDoS protection as standard.
