You can use CyberGhost to download torrents securely on uTorrent by setting up the VPN app on your torrent downloading device.

You can also install CyberGhost on a compatible router and pair it with your uTorrent device. However, this setup is more technical, so I don’t recommend it.

That said, do you have doubts about CyberGhost’s safety for uTorrent based on Reddit threads and forum ideas? I’ll show you how to properly set up CyberGhost to prevent leaks on uTorrent and debunk myths around this connection below.

How to Setup CyberGhost for uTorrent?

You don’t need technical know-how to set up CyberGhost for uTorrent without leaking your P2P activities to your ISP or network admins.

Follow these steps to get everything running smoothly:

  1. Get a CyberGhost account. Here are discount deals if you like savings.

  1. Toggle “Block Content” ON. This keeps malicious ads on The Pirate Bay, LimeTorrents, YTS, or any other torrent site away.
  2. Toggle “Prevent DNS leaks” to use CyberGhost’s DNS servers. Some users are caught by their ISPs due to DNS leaks.
  3. Toggle “Automatic Kill-Switch” ON. This is crucial to keep uTorrent from downloading if the CyberGhost VPN server connection drops.
  4. Once done, click “For Torrenting.” This opens a list of servers optimized for P2P activities.

  1. Choose the closest P2P server to your location. This ensures your data doesn’t have to travel too far to the server, providing better speed. I’ll connect to Morocco for this example.
  2. Wait for the connection confirmation. Then, test for leaks. You must ensure you get the VPN-assigned IP address and use CyberGhost DNS servers.

  1. Download and launch uTorrent now. Doing this over the VPN is crucial so your ISP can’t see this activity.
  2. Open a preferred torrent website. Then, search for a file.
  3. Add the file to uTorrent. You can manually add the torrent file, add the torrent URL, or add the torrent via magnet. I prefer the magnet link method.

Can You Bind CyberGhost Interface to uTorrent?

You can’t successfully bind the CyberGhost interface to uTorrent like you can with qBittorrent. There are multiple workarounds to try and make this binding work, but I’ve tested them all, and they’re not as reliable.

Instead, enabling the CyberGhost kill switch before downloading torrents on uTorrent is best.

That way, the VPN shuts down all transfers (including downloads) if the VPN server connection drops. Hence, your ISP doesn’t see your P2P activity over your original IP address, and all uTorrent activity only passes through the VPN.

Why Don’t Redditors Like CyberGhost for uTorrent?

Some Redditors claim CyberGhost isn’t reliable for uTorrent since Kape Technologies bought the company. The rationale behind that thinking is that CyberGhost’s new parent company used to distribute malware.

Now, that’s plausible since Crossrider first bought CyberGhost and was known for such. However, the company has since rebranded to Kape Technologies, with new management, and hasn’t had such issues since.

Proof that CyberGhost isn't always the issue

Furthermore, some users claimed that CyberGhost caused their ISPs to see their uTorrent or other P2P activities. A little digging into these cases showed that these users didn’t enable their kill switches, started the torrent client before launching CyberGhost, or exited CyberGhost before closing uTorrent.

These are user errors, which were addressed in this guide, and not CyberGhost’s mistakes.

So, it’s okay if you don’t want to use CyberGhost for uTorrent for other reasons.

But if it’s based on any of the above, that would be an unfounded reason to miss out on a robust uTorrent P2P provider like this.

How to Test Your CyberGhost uTorrent Security?

How do you know that you’ve gotten the CyberGhost-uTorrent setup correctly?

You shouldn’t have to wait for a copyright notice to adjust.

That’s why I’ve devised multiple tests to help you verify the security of your connection.

The best part is that these tests are beginner-friendly, and you can choose the one(s) that best resonates with you.

Adapt the torrenting setup tests in this guide to your CyberGhost connection to see if you’ll need to recheck something before heavy torrenting.

How to Increase uTorrent Speed Over CyberGhost?

Before anything else, know that a VPN will reduce your original speeds by up to 20% (on ultra-fast networks) or 40% (on medium-speed networks).

However, getting a massive speed drop or your connections grinding to a halt isn’t normal.

In such cases, try the fixes below.

Test Your Network Speed

The first place to start is by testing your network speed since CyberGhost can’t improve a poor network connection.

In this case, disconnect from the VPN and run a speed test using a tool like Ookla.

Adjust MTU Settings

CyberGhost automatically handles your MTU size. But if you’re not getting good enough speeds, it’s best to set the MTU Size to “Small.”

While larger MTU sizes are more efficient since they carry larger data packets simultaneously, they can clog up a network if one large packet gets stuck.

So, making the MTU smaller ensures a lower chance of the transmission size clogging up the network pipeline and slowing your downloads.

Here’s how to adjust the MTU size over the VPN:

  1. Stop your uTorrent downloads and transmissions.
  2. Disconnect from the CyberGhost app.
  3. Click Settings > CyberGhost VPN.

  1. Select “MTU Size.”
  2. Choose “Small.”
  3. Reconnect to the VPN.
  4. Resume your uTorrent downloads and see if there’s a difference.

Change Protocol

The CyberGhost WireGuard protocol is the fastest for downloading on uTorrent. However, OpenVPN performs better on some networks, like T-Mobile.

So, it’s best to switch your protocol around to see which one offers you better speeds.

Here’s how to find the protocol settings:

  1. Click the settings cog.
  2. Click “CyberGhost VPN.”

  1. Click the dropdown under “VPN protocol.”
  2. Switch your protocol and test your speed.

Change Server

CyberGhost optimizes all its servers for speed, but

  • Servers closest to you will be faster than those farther from you.
  • For Torrenting” servers will handle P2P bandwidth better than the standard servers.

So, always choose the closest P2P server. You can also test a few of them to know which is fastest.

Fortunately, CyberGhost puts an approximate distance beside each server, helping you quickly determine the closest one.

Get Dedicated IP

CyberGhost dedicated IPs only work on the OpenVPN protocol, which is slower than WireGuard. However, you’ll be the ONLY user on the server.

Hence, you get the full blast of speed it offers.

cyberghost dedicated ip feature

For example, say your dedicated IP server has 2Gbps on OpenVPN while a standard server has 10Gbps on WireGuard. The standard server will be shared by about 100 users at once, giving each user an effective 100Mbps. However, you get the full 2Gbps since you’re the only one using your server.

Follow this guide to get a CyberGhost dedicated IP in a preferred region.

Speak With Customer Support

If nothing else works for you, I recommend contacting customer support to share the issue with them.

CyberGhost has a 24/7 live chat support team built for troubleshooting issues like this. Present the unique scenario, let them know what fixes you’ve tried, and they’ll work with you to resolve the problem.

Notable CyberGhost Drawbacks for uTorrent

CyberGhost remains one of the fastest (though not the fastest) VPNs I’ve tried for uTorrent. The fastest should be PrivateVPN.

But besides the Reddit comments, which we cleared up above, CyberGhost has drawbacks that may affect more savvy uTorrent users. I’ve presented them below.

Lacks Port Forwarding

Port forwarding can help you get slight to massive speed boosts when torrenting, especially on files with minimal peers. If you use private torrent platforms, port forwarding is your best bet to get your downloads done faster.

Likewise, port forwarding increases your chances of safely seeding torrents, which CyberGhost can’t do.

If you care about that, I’ll recommend PrivateVPN. Besides being marginally faster than CyberGhost, its port forwarding is FREE!

Grab these one-time PrivateVPN deals to get it cheaper and test it risk-free for 30 days.

Lacks SOCKS5 Proxy

SOCKS5 proxy gets you faster uTorrent download speeds with some privacy.

So, this can be a reliable alternative for users facing serious throttling issues with CyberGhost or any VPN.

Unfortunately, CyberGhost doesn’t have this functionality.

But if you get PrivateVPN, you’ll also get SOCKS5 proxy in the package.

And, like the port forwarding, you don’t have to pay extra to get this functionality.

Don’t forget to make it worthwhile with these discounts.

Become a CyberGhost on uTorrent

CyberGhost understands that you don’t want your ISP to see your P2P activities or spend an eternity downloading torrent files.

That’s why its combination of a kill switch, AES 256-bit encryption, and optimized-for-speed torrenting servers is ideal for uTorrent.

Even if your ISP or network admin has blocked access to torrent websites on the network, CyberGhost will open the gateways.
