NordVPN lists 237 Australian servers across Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney. I would start with Basic if you want the VPN for everyday use in Australia or an Australian IP while traveling abroad. The main choice is which location suits your connection.
The US reference offer is US$3.49 per month, paid upfront as US$94.23 for 27 months. An Australian checkout can show different terms. Check the billing currency and final total before buying.
Server and app information and US reference pricing checked October 26, 2026. This guide has no speed or streaming test results from an Australian connection.
Which NordVPN Australia Server Should You Choose?
Start with the closest listed city when you are in Australia and want an Australian IP. NordVPN’s Australia server page names five cities; the main location list also reports five Australian city locations.
| Where you are | City to try first | Next check |
|---|---|---|
| Perth or Western Australia | Perth | Compare another Australian location if the connection is poor |
| Adelaide or South Australia | Adelaide | Try your usual calls and work apps |
| Melbourne or Victoria | Melbourne | Compare latency as well as download speed |
| Sydney or New South Wales | Sydney | Check the apps you use before leaving it on automatically |
| Brisbane or southeast Queensland | Brisbane | Compare on your actual broadband or mobile connection |
For Canberra, Hobart, Darwin, or a regional town, try Australia’s automatic server selection and then compare nearby listed cities. Network routing can make a different city work better. The five-city list does not establish which location will be fastest for your particular connection.
Open Australia’s location options in the app to choose a city. The menu can appear as a three-dot button or an expandable country list, depending on the platform. If the IP’s country matters, select Australia explicitly rather than relying on a general automatic connection.
Traveling to Australia or Leaving It
An Australian abroad: choose Australia to get an Australian VPN IP. Set up the app before your trip and check the accounts you need. A service can still require verification or block VPN addresses.
A visitor in Australia: use a nearby Australian city for ordinary VPN use. Select your home country only when you specifically need its IP. Connecting back to Europe or North America adds a long international route, which can affect calls and games.
An Australian working from home: begin locally unless your employer requires another location. A consumer VPN does not replace an employer’s approved remote-access system. Ask IT before buying an add-on for work.
What You Pay, and Which Plan I Would Choose
Basic is my starting pick for an Australian VPN connection. Paying for a larger bundle should depend on whether you need its extra products.
These are US reference prices checked October 26, 2026, before any applicable sales tax. We have not verified a local Australian checkout or an Australian-dollar quote.
| Plan | Monthly equivalent | First payment | Listed renewal |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | US$3.49 | US$94.23 for 27 months | US$139.08/year |
| Complete | US$3.99 | US$107.73 for 27 months | US$219.48/year |
The 27-month offer includes three extra months with the two-year term. US$3.49 is not a month-to-month bill. The subscription renews automatically at the listed annual price unless canceled; NordVPN says it will notify customers before price changes. For a short holiday, compare the full payment for a shorter subscription against the long plan’s upfront cost.
At checkout, read the currency label, tax, add-ons, amount due now, and renewal terms. Regional offers and app-store subscriptions can differ from the website’s US offer. Our NordVPN price and plans guide covers the detailed plan comparison and billing options.
NordVPN’s refund guidance says first-time customers can request a refund within 30 days of purchase. Apple handles App Store refunds. Turning off renewal and requesting a refund are separate actions; see how to cancel NordVPN for the steps.
Set Up the Apps Before a Trip
- Install the official app from NordVPN’s download page or your device’s app store. Sign in and allow the VPN configuration when prompted.
- Select the location for your task. Choose an Australian city for an Australian IP, or your home country if you are visiting Australia and need that country’s connection.
- Start with the automatic protocol setting or NordLynx. NordVPN documents NordLynx support for Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android.
- Confirm the app says it is connected. An IP address check can help confirm the public IP’s country. A correct country result does not prove that a streaming app will accept it.
- Open the services you actually need. Try a work call, sign-in, or other essential task before relying on the connection away from home.
Review auto-connect and your platform’s NordVPN kill switch settings if you plan to leave the VPN running. Check them again after changing networks.
Devices and Browser Extensions Have Different Limits
A regular account supports up to 10 simultaneous device connections. If several devices have trouble using one particular server, choose another Australian server; NordVPN documents protocol restrictions when multiple devices use the same one.
Use the device app when you want coverage for separate apps. NordVPN’s browser extension guidance says the extension secures browser traffic only. Installing it in Chrome does not cover a separate email or video-call app.
Australian Streaming Services Can Reject VPN Connections
An Australian IP is not a guarantee of Australian streaming access. Check the service’s own availability and VPN guidance before you buy.
For example, ABC iview explains that most of its content is restricted to Australia and asks viewers to disable their VPN. It also points overseas viewers to a selection cleared for international viewing.
Kayo’s VPN error guidance says the service is available within Australia and tells VPN users to disable the connection. Buying NordVPN or selecting Sydney does not change those restrictions.
Check the service you want to watch before paying for a long subscription around it. The full NordVPN review covers the product more broadly; this Australia guide does not establish local playback results.
If an App Works Only With the VPN Off
While you are physically in Australia, you can let an app use your normal Australian internet connection. NordVPN’s split tunneling instructions cover app exclusions on Windows, Android, and Android TV. Excluded traffic bypasses the VPN and loses its protection.
NordVPN does not offer the same app split tunneling on iOS or macOS. Read our NordVPN split tunneling guide for the platform differences.
If you are overseas, excluding an app gives it your overseas connection. It cannot turn that connection into an Australian one.
Check Speed on Your NBN or Mobile Connection
The server count cannot tell you the speed you will get at home, on mobile data, or in a hotel. I would check the connection on the actual device and network before making it part of a work or travel setup.
Use the same speed-test destination with the VPN off, then repeat with a nearby Australian city selected. Compare upload and latency as well as download speed. A video call or game is a useful second check because it tests the activity you care about.
Repeat at the time you normally use the connection. If the result is poor, compare another Australian city and check whether the underlying connection is also slow without the VPN. Test distant countries separately if you need them; a good Perth result says little about a route to London.
These are checks to run yourself. We do not have an Australian speed-test dataset for this guide.
When a Dedicated Australian IP Makes Sense
A normal Australian server gives you an IP shared with other customers. You can use it without buying an add-on.
NordVPN’s dedicated IP documentation lists Sydney and Melbourne for an address assigned to you. Consider it if an approved work system requires one fixed IP. Get your workplace’s acceptance before paying.
The dedicated IP has its own connection limit: up to 10 simultaneous connections using OpenVPN TCP or UDP, but only one using NordLynx. IKEv2 is unsupported. That NordLynx limit matters if you expect a laptop and phone to use the same dedicated address at once.
It still cannot promise acceptance by every bank, website, or streaming service. Our NordVPN dedicated IP guide explains the tradeoffs.
My NordVPN Australia Verdict
I would choose Basic for everyday VPN use with Australian city choices, or for a shared Australian IP while traveling. Try the apps and networks that matter to you during the applicable refund period.
The main reasons to compare another provider are a need for more simultaneous devices or particular app features. Our best VPNs for Australia covers the broader choice.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which Australian cities have NordVPN servers?
NordVPN lists Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney. Its Australia page showed 237 servers across these five cities when checked on October 26, 2026. Availability can change.
Can I get an Australian IP with NordVPN while overseas?
Yes. Select Australia or an Australian city in the NordVPN app to use an Australian VPN IP. Websites and apps can still reject VPN connections or require other location and account checks.
Does NordVPN guarantee access to ABC iview or Kayo?
No. ABC iview and Kayo both warn that VPN connections can prevent viewing. An Australian VPN IP does not establish permission to watch from overseas or guarantee playback. Follow each service's current availability rules and support guidance.
Do I need a dedicated IP to connect to Australia?
No. A regular NordVPN connection provides a shared Australian VPN IP. A dedicated IP is an optional paid add-on for an address assigned to you; NordVPN currently lists Sydney and Melbourne for this option. It does not guarantee acceptance by streaming services or other apps.
