Does PrivateVPN Have Servers in California?

We are reader supported and may earn a commission when you buy through links on our site. Learn more.

PrivateVPN has two servers in California, located in Los Angeles.

One of these PrivateVPN California servers is a dynamic, dedicated IP server that grants you a new and unused IP address whenever you connect.

The VPN provider also unblocks location-specific California content like PennWest college football games, LA local news, or your CA bank account from anywhere on these servers.

Can PrivateVPN Unblock California-Restricted Content?

PrivateVPN can unblock access to California-only content like XKABC-TV 7, KTTV, and ESPN’s local California channel over its Los Angeles server.

However, there’s only one standard LA server, and you might face low speeds and connection issues from overcrowding. So, switching to a private dynamic server could yield better results.

Can You Port Forward With PrivateVPN’s California Server?

PrivateVPN has port forwarding enabled automatically on its Californian servers. Go into the “Advanced View” to see what port you’re currently assigned after connecting to the server.

What's the Best PrivateVPN Protocol for Its California Server?

Depending on what you’re using PrivateVPN for, there are different protocols.

For example, PrivateVPN’s default protocol, OpenVPN (TUN+UDP+1194)(Default), is the best for security, especially when you couple it with AES-256-GCM encryption.

This encryption is strong enough to hide data-sensitive activities like bank details or torrenting information.

The PPTP and L2TP protocols are the best if you’re looking for speed.

They aren’t as keen on security, though, and they’re usually not that faster than the OpenVPN protocol to justify their usage.

To change which protocol to use, you’ll need to go through Settings > Connection Type:

Finally, be careful if you choose the PPTP and L2TP protocols.

Both aren’t supported by most VPNs anymore due to security flaws and could compromise your security.
