What Are Surfshark Server Categories?

Surfshark VPN servers

Surfshark has one of the biggest nets of VPN server locations available, all RAM-only. These servers are standard, Multihop, and Static IP servers

P2P is possible on all of them, although it takes longer on Multihop.

Surfshark Standard Servers

Every Surfshark server location has standard servers. They replace your IP with a new one, ensuring your location is masked.

You can use Surfshark standard servers for streaming, P2P, and regular browsing.

Multihop Servers

Surfshark also offers Multihop servers, also known as Double VPN, which route your traffic through two VPN servers instead of one.

You can use Surfshark Multihop servers for extra privacy and protection from tracing your location. It can also boost your speed.

You can find the Multihop servers on the “Multihop” tab in the Surfshark app.

Static IP

Surfshark has Static IP servers in five countries – USA, Germany, UK, Tokyo, and Singapore.

They allow you to have an IP address that remains the same whenever you connect.

It’s not the same as a dedicated IP, as you’ll share this IP with others.

However, static servers could be useful if you and your team need to have the same IP address at all times to access corporate resources, for example.

They’re included at no extra cost with all of Surfshark’s pricing packages.

You can find them in the “Static IP” tab in the app.

Surfshark Servers List

Though Surfshark doesn’t disclose the number of servers in specific locations for security reasons, it provides a clear picture of where they are and which VPN protocols they support.

What Is Surfshark’s Quick Connect Tool?

Surfshark’s Quick Connect tool is an in-app tool that determines the best server and quickly connects you to it.

Here’s a screen recording of me using the Quick Connect tool on my tablet:

Surfshark connecting to London

It’s no surprise that it connected me to a London Surfshark server since I’m close to the UK capital. If you’re in another country where Surfshark has servers – e.g., France – the Quick Connect tool will likely connect you to one of the French servers.

What Protocols Do Surfshark Servers Support?

All the Surfshark servers support the same wide range of protocols.

These include the OpenVPN protocol with TCP and UDP, WireGuard, and IPSec/IKEv2.

Surfshark doesn’t support PPTP and L2TP protocols. If you’re looking for a provider that supports L2TP, consider ExpressVPN.

Surfshark Server Down - What to Do?

If you’re having trouble connecting to a Surfshark server, here’s what you can do:

  1. Quit the app and disconnect from the Internet. Then reconnect and turn Surfshark on again.
  2. If that doesn’t work, try choosing another Surfshark server near you. Check the speed metrics on the right side to ensure it’s fast enough for you.
  1. If connecting to another server doesn’t solve the problem, try changing the VPN protocol in the app’s “Settings” tab.
  1. If that doesn’t work, check if there are updates available in the App Store/Google Play or if any notifications are popping up on the Desktop. If yes, update the app and re-launch.
  2. If nothing else works, contact Surfshark’s Live Chat support and describe your problem.

FAQ

Surfshark VPN no longer has Indian servers due to the country’s restrictive data retention laws.

However, Indian users can still connect to Surfshark via a virtual location or other Surfshark servers. The nearest Surfshark servers for Indian users are Nepal and Sri Lanka.

Surfshark doesn’t have servers in Russia.

However, Russian users can use Surfshark’s other servers worldwide, for example, in Finland or Estonia. Multihop and Static IP servers are also available to Russian users.

Surfshark doesn’t offer a traditional dedicated IP service.

However, Surfshark’s Static IP is a version of Dedicated IP.

If you connect to a static server, you’re given the same IP address each time.

However, with static IP, you share your IP address with other users connected to the same static server. Whereas with dedicated IP, the IP is yours alone.

Surfshark’s servers have the same level of encryption, proven no logs policy, and no way of retaining your data due to their RAM-only structure.

So, regarding security, all Surfshark servers are equal (unless you use Multihop, which increases encryption).

Regarding speed, the best Surfshark server depends on where you are

You can check the speed metrics of each server in the Surfshark app.

You can also use the Quick Connect tool, which determines which Surfshark server is the best for you.

The fastest Surfshark server depends on where you’re located.

The closer you are to the Surfshark server, the better speeds you’re likely to get.

For instance, if you’re in South England, the fastest Surfshark server for you is likely London. And if you’re in Leipzig, Germany, Berlin is your fastest server.

To determine the fastest Surfshark server, I recommend using Surfshark’s Quick Connect tool.

Surfshark has many servers in the United States.

They’re located in Miami, Seattle, Bend, San Jose, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Denver, Salt Lake City, Phoenix, Chicago, Kansas City, Boston, Buffalo, St. Louis, Detroit, Latham, New York, Houston, Dallas, Ashburn, Atlanta, Charlotte, Orlando, and Tampa.

So, users in most US states can get the full benefits of Surfshark.

And if you’re from a state like West Virginia that doesn’t have Surfshark servers, you can still connect to your nearest one for the best experience.

Yes, Surfshark has servers in the United Kingdom.

Surfshark UK servers are based in Edinburgh, Glasgow, London, and Manchester.

All of them have the same robust security features.

Surfshark also has a Static IP server in London and two British MultiHop servers through which you can connect to a French or a German Surfshark server.

Surfshark doesn’t have servers dedicated to P2P specifically.

However, all Surfshark standard servers are P2P-friendly and conceal your real IP address and activities when you’re torrenting. With the Quick Connect tool, you can connect to the best server to get the best torrenting speed.

You can use Surfshark standard servers with any torrent client, like BitTorrent or uTorrent.
