The trick to access and watch ITV from the USA is to use a VPN.
Trust me; trying any other method of bypassing ITV’s geo-based blocks will be futile.
Using a VPN, you’ll make it look like you’re in the United Kingdom, which is what you’ll need to unblock ITV. That’s possible because a VPN will replace your US IP with a UK IP address.
Of course, you need to be picky when choosing a VPN, as very few of them work with ITV. On top of that, only a small group of VPNs provides a reliable and stress-free streaming experience.
So, which VPN should you use? My personal and time-tested recommendation is ExpressVPN.
As you’re about to see, ExpressVPN allows you to watch ITV in the USA in under 60 seconds, with practically no effort. It just works – out of the box!
So, ready to learn how to unblock ITV from the United States?
I got your back, so keep reading!
7 Steps to Watch ITV in the USA (Quick Guide)
I’ve been a fan of British TV shows, movies, and documentaries for as long as I can remember. ITV Hub and BBC iPlayer always covered the biggest portion of my needs, as both are premium-level streaming services that come free of charge.
So, if you want to follow my lead, here’s my quick guide on how to watch ITV in the USA:
- Sign up for ExpressVPN using my exclusive link and get a steep discount.
- Download and install ExpressVPN’s apps on the device(s) you’ll use to stream ITV.
- Run ExpressVPN, and reach its home screen by logging into your account.
- Connect to any UK-based server (I recommend the ‘UK – Docklands’ server).
- Use your Web browser to visit the ITV Hub website or access the ITV Hub app.
- Click ‘Sign In’ (top-right corner) or create a new account.
- Pick any TV show or movie. That’s it!
Easy, right?
Well, that’s because ExpressVPN is doing all the hard work without you even noticing. Unlike other VPNs, this one comes with fully automated obfuscation – across all its 3,000+ servers.
By obfuscating your traffic (breaking it down into smaller packets), ExpressVPN can bypass geo-blocks imposed by ITV, BBC iPlayer, Channel 4, and other UK-based websites.
How to Watch ITV in the USA (In-Depth Guide)
ITV Hub is available on a wide range of devices, including (but not limited to) computers, phones, tablets, media streaming devices, smart TVs, and more. Therefore, when watching ITV in the USA, you can proceed in many different ways.
I’ll show you how to unblock ITV in the United States on different devices.

Watch ITV Hub on Computers (Windows, macOS & Linux)
ITV Hub doesn’t offer an app for Windows, macOS, and Linux.
That means you’ll need to use its website to access and stream its content.
Here’s how that is done:
Step 1: Subscribe to ExpressVPN. Then, download its apps (ExpressVPN offers native applications for Windows, macOS, and even Linux).
Step 2: Install ExpressVPN and open it. Once you reach its home screen, connect to any VPN server found in the United Kingdom.
Step 3: Once ExpressVPN’s home screen turns green (indicating that your VPN session is active), launch your favorite Web browser and visit ITV Hub’s website.
Step 4: Access your ITV account by clicking ‘Sign In.’ That’s where you can also create a new account, which is a straightforward procedure.
Step 5: All there’s left is to start streaming. Feel free to pick any movie or TV show. ITV might show you a couple of ads, which is when the chosen title will begin to stream.
ITV Hub offers apps for Android and iOS/iPadOS.
However, if you’re an iPhone/iPad user, you can’t download the app from the App Store as it’s available in the UK only.
That’s not a significant downside, as ITV’s website works excellent on iOS/iPadOS. I’ve been using Safari to watch ITV Hub in the US, but other browsers like Chrome and Firefox should work fine as well.
So, here are the steps to watch ITV Hub in the US on Android and iOS/iPadOS:
Step 1: Subscribe to ExpressVPN and download its app on your mobile device. You’ll find ExpressVPN’s app on Google’s Play Store and Apple’s App Store.
Step 2: Launch the app. Once you log in to your ExpressVPN account, you’ll see the VPN’s home screen. Use it to connect to a UK-based VPN server (I recommend using ‘UK – Docklands’).
Step 3: If you use Android, you can download ITV Hub from APKMirror. You need to download the latest APK file version and then install the app manually. If you use iOS/iPadOS, you can use Safari to access ITV Hub’s website.
Step 4: At this moment, you should be looking at ITV’s app or website. Also, ExpressVPN should run in the background, connected to a UK VPN server. Log in to your ITV account or create one.
Step 5: Select any title you’d like to stream. ITV might show you a couple of ads and ask if you’re over eighteen. Once you confirm, the chosen movie/TV show will begin streaming.
Watch ITV Hub on Roku
You need to do two things to access ITV on Roku.
First, you need a Roku account associated with a UK address.
Then, you need to run a VPN on your router (or via a virtual router on your PC).
With that said, the first step is to get a UK Roku account by signing up on Roku’s website. Remember to use a VPN while signing up.
Also, pick any UK address and postcode.
Then, log out of your old Roku account and access the newly created one on your media streaming device.
The second piece of the ITV-Roku puzzle is to get your VPN to work with Roku.
To learn how to do that, check my guide on setting up ExpressVPN on Roku.
If you feel a bit disheartened by the complexities of watching ITV Hub on Roku in the US, another workaround is available (an easier one, in fact!).
I recommend setting up ITV Hub on your Android or iOS/iPadOS device.
Then, you can use your device’s screen-sharing or screen-casting functionality.
On Android devices, that option is called ‘Chromecast’ or ‘Cast.’
On iPhones & iPads, it’s ‘AirPlay.’
For more information, I recommend turning to Roku’s support documentation, which offers nicely explained guides that cover various mobile devices.
So, here’s how to use screen-mirroring on Roku via Android.
Finally, here’s how to use AirPlay to stream content from an iPhone to Roku.
Watch ITV Hub on Fire TV Stick
It’s true that ITV Hub has a Fire OS app. You can even download it in the United States, but the app will block your access as soon as it sees your location.
You can also watch ITV Hub in the US on your Fire TV device (using a VPN, of course). However, you might encounter some technical problems, so I’ll offer two workarounds.
The first method of accessing ITV Hub on Fire OS is the easiest method currently available:
Step 1: Get your ExpressVPN subscription. You can sign up on your computer or smartphone, which will speed things up once you turn to your Fire TV Stick.
Step 2: On your Fire TV Stick, download ExpressVPN’s app from Amazon’s App Store. Open the app and log in. Once you reach the app’s home screen, connect to any UK-based VPN server.
Step 3: Return to Amazon’s App Store. Download the Amazon Silk app, a basic yet fully functional Web browser (which you’ll use to access ITV instead of the ITV Hub app).
Step 4: Launch Amazon Silk. Once you accept the app’s terms, you’ll probably be redirected to Bing.com. Use Silk’s address bar (at the top) to visit ITV.com.
Step 5: Once ITV’s site opens, select ‘Sign In.’ Log in to your account or create a new one. Once done, ITV will return you to its homepage.
Step 6: Select any title you’d like to watch. After a few ads, the chosen title will start playing.
The instructions you’ve just read focus on using Amazon Silk to access ITV Hub. That’s because the ITV Hub app, even though it’s the best way to access the streaming service, can sometimes behave erratically – especially with a VPN.
That said, I still recommend downloading the ITV Hub from Amazon’s App Store. You can also sideload it by downloading its APK from the Web.
Just remember to keep ExpessVPN active in the background at all times (connected to a UK server).
However, in case of any problems, you can always fall back on using Amazon Silk, which is a bulletproof method.
Watch ITV Hub on Android TV
ITV Hub offers an Android TV app via Google’s Play Store.
That makes the installation effortless – if you have a compatible Android TV device.
So, here’s how to install the app and watch ITV Hub on Android TV from the USA.
Step 1: Subscribe to ExpressVPN. Then, download the VPN app on your Android TV device using the Play Store. Launch the VPN and log in. You should be now looking at its home screen.
Step 2: Go back to the Play Store and use its search functionality to look up – ITV Hub. If you can’t find it, visit your device’s settings and switch to ‘United Kingdom’ using location-related settings. You might be asked to restart your device. If you still can’t find it, keep reading, as I’ll offer a workaround.
Step 3: Once you download and install ITV Hub on your Android TV, don’t open it just yet. You need to go back to ExpressVPN. Connect to any UK-based server.
Step 4: Now, you can launch ITV Hub. Log in to your account or create a new one. After a few moments, you should be looking at ITV Hub’s home screen. That’s it!
As mentioned earlier, you might have a problem finding ITV Hub on the Play Store. In that case, I recommend installing the app manually (you’ll need to ‘sideload’ it). If you’re not familiar with sideloading, I recommend turning to this article.
To sideload ITV Hub, you’ll need its APK file. You need to open that file on your Android TV, install the app manually, and you’ll be ready to go.
Various websites offer APK files, so you’ll always have at least a few options.
However, I recommend downloading ITV Hub’s APK file from this GitHub repository.
Don’t forget that geo-restricted apps such as ITV Hub might produce errors if you don’t use a VPN in the background. So, as soon as you sideload the app, connect to one of ExpressVPN’s UK-based servers.
You’ll need to do that every time you wish to watch ITV Hub from the US.
Watch ITV Hub on Apple TV
ITV Hub is available on the tvOS App Store. However, to access that app, you need to have an Apple ID associated with a UK address.
It’s not that difficult to switch your Apple ID to a different address, but beware that doing so has many (negative) consequences.
Switching your Apple ID to a different country might prevent your US-based apps from working. And since Apple TV doesn’t support VPN apps, there’s no easy way to trick ITV Hub and other apps into thinking you’re elsewhere.
Other guides might instruct you to install a VPN on your router.
That method works in theory, as that’s the only way to extend your VPN coverage to devices that don’t support VPNs. So, it should work on Apple TV, smart TVs, and even game consoles.
However, installing a VPN on a router requires a dedicated VPN router.
Reliable models start at around $100, and they go way up to $250+, so we’re talking about a significant investment.
Therefore, I don’t think you’ll want to take that route.
Instead, I advise you to install ITV Hub on your iPhone or iPad.
Then, you can cast ITV Hub’s content to your Apple TV.
On top of that (if content-casting doesn’t work), you can mirror your phone’s screen to your Apple TV. For more information, turn to this Apple support article.
Remember that even when casting or mirroring your screen, you need a VPN to access and unblock ITV Hub from the US.
So, grab your ExpressVPN subscription and download the VPN to your iPhone first. The VPN app will need to run in the background while using ITV Hub.
Watch ITV Hub on Smart TVs
There are two ways to watch ITV Hub on your smart TV in the US.
You can set up a VPN on your phone or tablet and screen-cast ITV’s content.
Or, you can use a SmartDNS feature.
Screen-casting works by sending video and audio from your phone or tablet to your TV. That means you’ll use your phone to unblock and access ITV Hub.
Then, as soon as you start streaming any video, you’ll cast it to your smart TV.
With that said, here’s how to get ITV Hub to work in the US on your iPhone/iPad or Android.
Once you get the ITV Hub app on your phone/tablet, you can mirror your phone’s screen to your smart TV. Of course, you’ll need to be connected to your VPN at all times (on your phone).
Another way to unblock ITV Hub directly on your TV is via ‘SmartDNS.’
That feature is part of many VPN subscriptions, including ExpressVPN.
It allows you to unblock media streaming apps by changing your device’s DNS addresses.
So, the first step would be to download and install ITV Hub on your TV by changing your TV’s region to ‘United Kingdom’ (via your TV’s settings).
Then, set up ExpressVPN’s SmartDNS (also known as ‘MediaStreamer DNS’) on your TV. Here’s how you can do that on LG and Samsung TVs.
ExpressVPN offers DNS servers in the United Kingdom.
So, when you launch ITV Hub on your smart TV, your traffic will start flowing through UK-based DNS servers. That’s how you’ll unblock ITV Hub from anywhere in the world, including the US.
How to Subscribe to ITV From the US – Step-By-Step Guide
You won’t believe how easy it is to subscribe to ITV from the US.
You can use any Web browser, and you don’t even have to use a VPN.
Here are the steps you need to take:
Step 1: Using any Web browser, navigate to ITV’s website.
Step 2: Click ‘Sign In’ and then use the ‘Sign Up Now’ button.
Step 3: You’ll now need to provide your name, date of birth, email address, and create a password. However, pay attention to the ‘Postcode’ field, as that information will dictate the types of content available via your ITV Hub account. I recommend using this postcode – EC4A 2AH, a Westminster (London) postal code.
Step 4: Once you hit the ‘Submit’ button, an email will arrive asking you to verify your new ITV Hub account. As soon as you do so, you’ll have a fully functional ITV Hub account.
Even though you can subscribe to ITV Hub without a VPN and even log into your account, you can’t stream any content.
Therefore, it’s clear that not having a VPN won’t get you very far.
That means it’s time to review some options.
Which VPNs Work Best for Streaming ITV Hub in the US?
As per my hands-on tests, the best VPNs for streaming ITV Hub in the US are ExpressVPN, Surfshark, CyberGhost, and NordVPN.
These VPNs will let you unblock and stream ITV Hub with no issues.
Therefore, you’ll want to decide which VPN you’ll pick based on its unique features. Here’s a bit more information about the best ITV Hub VPNs.
ExpressVPN – This VPN is especially useful for streaming.
It comes with 3,000+ servers in 90+ countries, unblocks practically any streaming service, and has highly polished software.
I have been using it to stream ITV on various devices for several years now – and this VPN has yet to show any sign of weakness.
So, it’s my #1 recommendation.
Surfshark – If you want a simple-looking, one-click VPN, Surfshark should be the focus of your attention. You get 3,000+ servers in 60+ countries, incredibly fast speeds, as well as the ability to evade anti-VPN systems.
As a result, Surfshark unblocks a huge range of streaming services, especially those based in the United States (Hulu, Disney Plus, HBO Max, and more) and the United Kingdom (ITV Hub, BBC iPlayer).
CyberGhost – Like my other recommendations, CyberGhost is a reputable and trustworthy VPN service. However, what I like best is its focus on media streaming. CyberGhost has 7,500+ servers in 90+ countries.
However, it also brings a host of specialized servers optimized for individual streaming services. Among those, you’ll find a UK-based server that works specifically with ITV Hub, which comes with incredible speeds and a no-buffering streaming experience.
NordVPN – Even though NordVPN emphasizes its privacy-focused features, it’s perfectly capable of unblocking websites and streaming online media.
Sadly, its servers aren’t labelled explicitly for streaming, but I’ve had plenty of luck using its numerous UK-based servers to stream ITV.
Since it has several solid and proven VPN protocols, NordVPN lets you fine-tune your Web connection. In other words, you’ll get incredibly fast speeds, which is crucial when using streaming platforms such as ITV Hub.
Why Is ITV Saying I Am Outside the UK?
ITV Hub checks your location in various ways – but based on your IP address primarily.
If you’re in the United Kingdom, you already have a British IP address, so it could be that your device’s settings are creating an interference.
Ensure that your device’s language and region settings are set to ‘United Kingdom.‘ You’ll also want to recheck if your device’s time zone corresponds to the British time zone. If that doesn’t help, turn to ITV Hub’s support.
If you’re trying to access ITV Hub from outside the UK with a VPN, it’s evident that your VPN is experiencing technical issues.
With that said, know that not every VPN works with ITV Hub.
And if you’re using any of the VPNs found in this guide, chances are you’ll need to make a few tweaks. You can find out more below.
Can’t Access ITV While Using a VPN? – Use These Troubleshooting Steps!
Even the best VPNs sometimes need a bit of a “push” to break through geo-restrictions. So, if you can’t access ITV Hub even while using a VPN, there are several things to try.
I recommend turning to your VPN app first, where you can try a different server or switch to another protocol. Then, you can turn to your device, as already-stored cache data might aid ITV Hub in detecting your location.
I’m sure you’ll want more detailed instructions on what needs to be done, which is what you’ll find if you keep reading.
#1: Switch to Another UK-Based VPN Server
When trying to watch ITV Hub from the United States, the most significant requirement is to have a UK IP address. As you already know, that’s done by using a UK-based VPN server. However, not just every VPN server will do the job.
VPN services implement all kinds of optimizations to their servers, which is why only some servers can unblock ITV Hub. And also, VPN servers can get overcrowded, which can cause performance issues when unblocking sites.
Therefore, I recommend switching to another UK VPN server.
If your VPN offers an option to check the current load of each server, connect to one not used by too many individuals.
#2: Switch to Another (Streaming-Friendly) VPN Protocol
By default, your VPN service will try to determine the best VPN protocol after checking your connection’s parameters. However, many VPNs also play it safe by utilizing the strongest protocol they offer. In most cases, that protocol is OpenVPN.
OpenVPN works great for unblocking cases such as ITV Hub.
However, it’s far from the fastest protocol. So, if you have a relatively slow Web connection, you might encounter speed issues.
I recommend diving into your VPN’s settings and switching between different protocols. You can go with WireGuard if your VPN offers that option, as Wireguard is often fast.
However, I typically use IKEv2 when streaming media.
That protocol is strong enough to unblock websites and fast enough to work without slowing you down.
#3: Clear Your Web Browser’s History & Cache
Every website you visit stores cache data on your device, speeding up its operations upon the next visit. So, if you tried watching ITV Hub from the USA before, it could be that cache data remains, pointing to your location.
Of course, that primarily applies to Web browsers.
So, if you use Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Opera, or Safari – use the provided links to learn how to clear your browser’s cache and history.
Make sure to delete everything, including your history, cache, cookies, and other residual files.
If clearing the cache doesn’t help, try using your Web browser’s Private/InPrivate/Private Browsing/Incognito mode.
That’s how you’ll force ITV Hub not to read or store any cache, putting your VPN connection’s IP address and metadata under the spotlight.
#4: Clear Your Streaming Device’s Cache
As explained above, websites store cache data on your device – but so do individual apps. That especially applies to smartphones, tablets, and media streaming devices.
Removing ITV Hub’s cache will force the app to read your IP address and location again. So, if you connect to a UK VPN server first, you’ll increase your chances of the app thinking that you’re in the United Kingdom.
Clearing the cache is a one-time procedure. If you can force ITV Hub to think you’re in the UK that way, you’ll have a much easier time unblocking the app in the future.
On devices powered by Android and iOS/iPadOS, the easiest way to clear the cache is to delete the ITV Hub. Restart your device and then re-install the app.
When it comes to media streaming devices, there are ways to delete the cache on platforms such as Android TV and Fire OS (Amazon’s Fire TV Stick).
If another platform powers your streaming device, try uninstalling and reinstalling the ITV Hub.
#5: Turn To Your VPN’s Customer Support Team
If nothing else helps, turn to your VPN’s customer support.
It would be best to create a support ticket or send an email asking for instructions on which server and protocol to use to unblock ITV Hub in the US.
Top-rated VPNs offer live chat support, which is one of the many reasons I recommend ExpressVPN throughout this guide.
That customer support channel provides the fastest way to resolve your VPN-related technical issues.
FAQ
Can I Stream ITV in the USA?
ITV is available in the United Kingdom only, so you can’t stream it in the USA. However, you can obtain a UK IP address and unblock ITV Hub by using a VPN.
However, not every VPN can unblock ITV Hub.
On top of that, you need one that works great for streaming – without slowing you down. My recommendation is ExpressVPN.
What Can I Watch on ITV?
ITV allows you to watch TV channels live, such as ITV, ITV2, ITVBe, ITV3, ITV4, and CITV. You’ll also find an extensive library of on-demand content.
When it comes to TV shows, ITV Hub focuses on British content primarily.
Some of the most popular titles are Fearless, White House Farm, and The Pembrokeshire Murders.
There are a lot of American TV shows as well, such as Hart of Dixie, One Tree Hill, The O.C., and Family Guy.
Can I Watch ITV on Amazon Prime?
Amazon Prime Video offers both ITV Hub and ITV Hub+, which come as add-ons to your Prime subscription. However, that option is only available in the United Kingdom.
In the United States, Amazon will point you to Britbox, where you can find many of the TV shows produced and aired on ITV.
However, Britbox is a premium-priced add-on for your Prime subscription ($6.99/month). On top of that, Britbox is an excellent source of British TV shows and movies – but it doesn’t offer everything you’ll find on ITV Hub.
Luckily, the method described in this article will let you unblock the British (original) version of ITV Hub, which comes free of charge.
Can I Watch ITV Outside the UK for Free?
Yes, you can watch ITV outside the United Kingdom for free.
However, you’ll still need to pay for a subscription to a VPN to unblock ITV Hub.
Paying for a capable VPN is a decision you won’t regret.
That’s because you’ll use it for more than just watching ITV Hub.
You’ll also get to unblock BBC iPlayer, which brings a treasure trove of content (free of charge, as well). Of course, other free streaming services won’t be out of your reach, either.
Has ITV Blocked VPNs?
No, ITV hasn’t blocked VPNs – even though the media streaming service can detect VPN services based on their IPs and block your access (if you’re not in the UK).
More precisely, ITV Hub detects your location based on your IP address. However, it’s not enough to have a UK-based IP address, as ITV Hub also blocks VPN IP addresses.
That’s why very few VPNs can still ITV Hub.
Most of them don’t have large-enough pools of IP addresses to bypass ITV’s anti-VPN detection mechanisms.
In other words, all you need is a powerful-enough VPN service that offers servers in the United Kingdom and offers an enormous pool of IPs.
I’ve been a loyal user of ExpressVPN for quite some time, for that reason exactly.
Can I Use ExpressVPN to Watch ITV?
Yes, you can use ExpressVPN to unblock and watch ITV from anywhere.
That VPN can unblock ITV Hub on practically any device with minimal effort.
If you decide to use ExpressVPN, I recommend using the IKEv2 protocol (which you can select by visiting the VPN’s settings).
Also, feel free to connect to the ‘UK – Docklands‘ server, which works without a hitch.
Can I Use NordVPN to Watch ITV?
Yes, you can use NordVPN to watch ITV. Based on my tests, NordVPN is a very capable VPN that easily unblocks ITV, but there are some drawbacks.
This VPN offers a lot of servers in the United Kingdom, many of which work with streaming services such as ITV Hub and BBC iPlayer.
However, streaming-friendly services are not labeled.
Therefore, if you pick NordVPN, know that you’ll have to try a couple of servers on your own, deciding which of those works best in your case.
Is It Legal to Watch ITV in the USA With a VPN?
Yes, it’s legal to watch ITV in the USA using a VPN and as per ITV’s Terms and Conditions, using a VPN comes without any legal consequences.
That legal document makes no mention of VPN services.
It doesn’t forbid you from “altering your access” to the streaming service either, which is often a nicer way to say that VPNs are not an option in the legal sense.
With that said, it’s safe to say that using a VPN to unblock ITV Hub in the USA won’t get you in any trouble.
Is There a Free VPN for Streaming ITV in the US?
Unfortunately, there’s no free VPN that will allow you to stream ITV in the United States. That’s because free VPNs can’t be used for streaming.
In most cases, free VPNs come with limited bandwidth, which only allows you to browse the Web from time to time.
On top of that, free VPNs come with limited performance, which can be close to unusable, as those servers are typically overcrowded.
Media streaming requires a lot of bandwidth and a relatively fast Internet connection. So, your only option is to use a premium VPN service.
What’s the Best VPN for Watching ITV in the US?
Based on my extensive tests and personal experience, the best VPN for watching ITV in the United States is ExpressVPN.
I recommend ExpressVPN because it works with ITV on any device whenever you want to watch ITV Hub. On top of that, getting started is easy, as you don’t need any prior experience with VPNs.
That’s a Wrap!
That was quite a ride, wasn’t it?
Congrats on making it to the end of my in-depth guide on how to watch ITV in the US!
I’ll conclude by saying that ExpressVPN is your best option right now, as it comes as a perfect solution to the problem of unblocking ITV outside the UK.
