I have good news and bad news.
The good news is I discovered the best VPN for Terrarium TV: ExpressVPN.
The bad news is the original Terrarium TV no longer exists and there’s no promise of it being available soon.
Bummer, I know.
On the bright side, there are other free TV streaming services to choose from (I’ll share a list of excellent alternatives below).
Or you can take the risk of using a Terrarium TV copy – but then you really need to use the best VPN for streaming and protection.
Read on for reviews of the best VPNs for Terrarium TV alternatives.
Top 3 VPNs for Terrarium TV (And Other Streaming Apps)

With its premium suite of security features, including a double VPN, NordVPN will keep you optimally safe while downloading streaming apps to the likes of Terrarium TV. You’ll also enjoy unbuffered streaming with speeds that place second to ExpressVPN.

ExpressVPN allows you to stream your favorite shows at blazing-fast speeds without compromising security. PLUS – obfuscated servers will mask your activity from your ISP and help you access restricted content, even if you’re in a highly censored location.

Safely stream your shows on an unlimited number of devices with SurfShark. And then – like NordVPN – you can run traffic through multiple servers to double up on security (MultiHop). It also has competitively fast speeds that are almost up to par with ExpressVPN.
Whether you wait patiently to see if Terrarium TV revives itself or choose another free streaming app, it’s important to find a VPN that offers the best security and supports peer-to-peer (P2P).
Not only are all the VPNs listed below excellent at doing both, but they have added features that make streaming smooth and private.
As a side note, these VPNs are also great at unblocking Netflix, Amazon Prime, and BritBox.

The Best VPNs for Terrarium TV and Other Free Streaming Platforms at a Glance
In this guide, I’ll review five VPNs perfect for HD streaming on platforms such as Terrarium TV.
By the end, you’ll have no trouble choosing YOUR best VPN for Terrarium TV replicas.
But if you’re short of time, you can take a glance at my top choices.
Here they are:
- ExpressVPN – Best Choice | Lightning-Fast Speeds for Smooth Streaming
- NordVPN – Best Secure VPN for Terrarium TV + Fast Speeds
- Surfshark – Unlimited Simultaneous Connections With MultiHop
- AtlasVPN – Best Budget-Friendly VPN for Streaming
- CyberGhost VPN – Novice VPN | Supports Smooth Streaming

ExpressVPN
ExpressVPN is my top choice because it combines three important features for an excellent streaming experience. First, it offers the fastest speeds for unbuffered streaming (see a comparison table in the full review). Second, it uses AES 256-bit encryption and a strict “no-logs” policy to keep your details hidden from your ISP and the authorities. Third, it has a large number of dedicated apps for different devices and systems, including Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, Linux, Smart TVs, gaming consoles, and routers. PLUS – you can enjoy the benefit of using one subscription to log in on up to 5 devices simultaneously.
Upon searching the internet, you’ll stumble on several applications claiming to be Terrarium TV.
However, if you visit the original website, you’re met with the following notice: “Terrarium TV app has been shut down and discontinued.”
It also cautions against downloading and using fake Terrarium TV apps.
Whether you attempt to use one of the Terrarium TV knock-offs or something more popular like Popcorn Time, these are the best VPN options for streamers.
Detailed List of the 5 Best VPNs for Terrarium TV and Similar Streaming Apps
1. ExpressVPN - Best Choice | Lightning-Fast Speeds for Smooth Streaming

Many streamers are concerned that a VPN will reduce their download speed.
A good VPN service may slow down speeds, but not noticeably so.
For example, there was only a 6.7% drop in speed when I connected to an ExpressVPN server, which meant I could still stream content without lag.
I did a speed test with all the VPNs.
ExpressVPN was the fastest, but the others performed well, too (with NordVPN coming in at a close second).
Speed before using a VPN:

Speed after connecting to ExpressVPN:

To give you an idea, here’s a table displaying the speeds I got (the download speed I had before connecting to a VPN server was 50.88 Mbps):
Provider | Download speed on a 100 Mbps line (Vanderbijlpark, South Africa Server) |
---|---|
ExpressVPN | 47.55 Mbps |
NordVPN | 45.30 Mbps |
Surfshark | 45.08 Mbps |
AtlasVPN | 42.25 Mbps |
CyberGhost | 39.41 Mbps |
OK – now that you’ve brushed up on the VPNs’ speeds, let’s discuss other important features.
First, ExpressVPN offers unlimited streaming on 3,000 servers in 94 countries (the only VPN that comes close to this server location expansion is CyberGhost).
Not only does this make it perfect for unblocking Terrarium TV apps from censored locations, but it also ensures there’s a sufficient selection of nearby servers for you to connect to (further guaranteeing fast and reliable speeds).
Second, there’s the Fort Knox security.
This VPN impressed me with its Trusted Server technology, preventing operating systems and apps from writing to hard drives.
Instead, it uses RAM to store data and then wipes all info clean every time it’s restarted.
This keeps copyright authorities off your back when streaming content on apps such as Terrarium TV.
Like the other VPNs I listed, ExpressVPN also has a strict logging policy.
Traffic, metadata, and DNS queries aren’t tracked or stored – so I continued streaming without worrying about being throttled by my ISP.
Last, a kill switch ensured that, if my connection was lost, I’d still be protected, while traditional AES-256 military-grade protection ensured an optimally safe streaming experience.

Furthermore, ExpressVPN is one of few providers to develop full-featured apps for most operating systems, including Windows, macOS, iOS, Firestick, Android, Linux, and Smart TVs.
This means you can safely stream your Terrarium TV shows on nearly any device.
The apps are very easy to use, which is another bonus, as you don’t have to be a tech genius to use the advanced settings, like split tunneling.
You can also use this VPN on up to 5 devices simultaneously – with unlimited bandwidth!
This offering may not be as great as SurfShark and AtlasVPN’s unlimited connections, but it’s decent enough for an individual trying to multitask or a family trying to watch separate Terrarium TV shows at once.
One drawback is that ExpressVPN is not the cheapest VPN (Atlas VPN is).
The price sits at the higher end, but for a good reason: it provides elite features with quick and helpful customer support.
If you find it’s not working for your online TV streaming needs, you can always use the 30-day money-back guarantee and save your bucks.
If you’re hooked on ExpressVPN but find it’s too expensive, click here to save money.
Pros
- Fastest P2P connection for Terrarium TV streaming
- AES-256 military-grade encryption
- Strict no-logs policy
- TrustedServer for extra privacy
- Works on most operating systems, including Linux and Smart TVs
- Unlimited bandwidth
- Works in 94 countries
- Easy to use
- Excellent features for all apps
Cons
- The most expensive VPN on my list
2. NordVPN - Best Secure VPN for Terrarium TV + Fast Speeds

NordVPN is almost as fast as ExpressVPN.
In fact, if you connect to NordLynx, the provider’s proprietary protocol, you may even get better speeds than ExpressVPN (although these may be inconsistent).
Speed when connected to a NordVPN server:

This VPN doesn’t cover as many countries as ExpressVPN, but it has a huge selection of obfuscated servers specialized for use with P2P (5,100+ servers in 59+ countries).
So, you can stream content on apps such as Terrarium TV from anywhere via a private connection that can’t be detected by ISP or copyright authorities.
Like the other VPNs I listed, NordVPN promises not to store or share user activity.
It also offers DNS leak protection, 256-bit AES encryption, and two kill switches.
RAM-based servers offer extra security (like ExpressVPN) and will help to keep the “streaming police” at bay.
One stand-out feature is Double VPN functionality.
This allows users to route traffic through two VPN servers instead of one.
So, your data is encrypted twice for optimal privacy.
The only other VPN that offers this type of multi-layered routing is Surfshark (MultiHop).
Double VPN is ideal for Terrarium TV users (or Popcorn Time users, etc.) streaming from countries with strict P2P laws.
Just keep in mind that it can slow speeds further, so you may want to avoid it if your connection is already on the slow side.

NordVPN accommodates 6 users at a time, just one more than ExpressVPN.
It also runs on most operating systems, although the best advanced features are reserved for Windows, Android, and Android TV.
Unlike ExpressVPN, which only blocks ads using third-party software (uBlock), NordVPN offers the convenience of blocking pesky ads from its apps.
This is a bonus for those who want to stream their Terrarium TV content without being interrupted by pop-ups.
Last, NordVPN’s subscription fees are a tad pricey, but you’ll be purchasing a premium service – so it’s worth the extra money.

Pros
- Features NordLynx for faster speeds
- Obfuscated servers specialized for use with P2P
- RAM-based servers for added privacy
- DNS leak protection
- Kill switch
- Promised no-logs policy
- Double VPN for no-track activity
- Excellent in-app adblocker
Cons
- Double VPN can reduce speeds
3. Surfshark - Unlimited Simultaneous Connections With MultiHop

Surfshark has a lot going for it, including fast speeds and military-grade security.
But what attracts many users to this VPN is that it allows users to use one subscription on an unlimited number of devices (the only other VPN on my list that offers this perk is AtlasVPN).
So, an entire household can stream shows safely using one VPN!
Now, back to speed.
This VPN wasn’t much slower than ExpressVPN and NordVPN.
While I couldn’t test it with Terrarium TV, I did watch a series on Popcorn Time while it was running.
The good news: there was absolutely no buffering, and I enjoyed smooth streaming.

With Surfshark, you’ll also benefit from masked activity.
The VPN has two obfuscation features, one of which is “Camouflage Mode.”
This feature helps protect you from cease-and-desist orders when streaming copyrighted content for free.
Read an interesting and detailed review of Camouflage Mode here.
Like NordVPN, Surfshark also has a double VPN feature called “MultiHop.”
But once again, while this doubles your security and combats harsh P2P protocols, it may cause your Terrarium TV streams to lag if you’re using a slow connection.
Added security includes a kill switch, strict no-logs policy, AES 256-bit encryption with an optional encryption cipher called ChaCha, and DNS leak protection.
Additionally, the provider’s “CleanWeb” feature helps remove ads and blocks malware.
I wouldn’t say it’s as good at blocking ads while streaming free content as NordVPN, but it does remove the bulk of them (thus encouraging your content to load faster).

Surfshark currently has servers in 60+ countries, like NordVPN.
Since ExpressVPN covers more server locations, it would be a better option if you’re interested in accessing censored content across the globe.
Surfshark also works seamlessly on Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and Linux.
But unlike ExpressVPN and NordVPN, it doesn’t offer a dedicated app for routers.
Ending on a good note, Surfshark is incredibly easy on the pocket, and you’ll be impressed with its reasonable subscription fees.
Click here for a MASSIVE discount!
Pros
- An affordable VPN
- Fast speeds
- Use one subscription for unlimited devices
- Camouflage mode for extra privacy
- MultiHop for doubled security
- DNS protection
- No-logs policy
- Optional encryption protocol (ChaCha)
Cons
- No app for smart TVs
4. AtlasVPN - Best Budget-Friendly VPN for Streaming

AtlasVPN’s speeds aren’t the best, but they’re good enough to stream Terrarium TV or the like.
I put the VPN to the test, and while I did experience slight buffering at the start of my movie, the rest of my stream was uninterrupted.

Speed aside, it has the advantage of not limiting one subscription to a set number of devices (like Surfshark).
So, your entire household can stream fake Terrarium TV accounts or whichever streaming platform you choose while benefiting from online privacy and security.
Moving to security, AtlasVPN offers military-grade encryption, advanced leak protection for both IPv4 and IPv6 connections, a kill switch, and SafeSwap.
SafeSwap allows you to access the internet using rotating IP addresses on a single server, thus increasing your online anonymity.
Then, the lightweight WireGuard protocol protects the connection between a device and the VPN servers without drastically slowing speeds.
So, your Terrarium TV streaming can continue to stay undetected.
There’s also a built-in ad and tracker blocker that prevents personal details from being collected.
Bonus!

AtlasVPN only covers 17+ countries as opposed to ExpressVPN’s 94+.
This doesn’t make it the best option for unblocking worldwide – although there are plenty of servers to keep speeds flowing.
As for device support, you can use AtlasVPN for streaming on Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and Android TV (nothing for Linux).
As mentioned, AtlasVPN is a budget-friendly VPN and the most affordable option on my list when choosing the 3-year subscription.

Pros
- Fast enough for smooth streaming
- Unlimited device usage
- Cheap VPN
- Military-grade encryption
- Leak protection for both IPv4 and IPv6
- SafeSwap for added privacy
- Built-in ad and tracker blocker
- Supports WireGuard protocol
Cons
- No app for Linux
- Only has servers in 17+ countries
5. CyberGhost VPN - Novice VPN | Supports Smooth Streaming

Like Surfshark and AtlasVPN, CyberGhost is a budget-friendly option that offers premium features.
While it got the lowest score on my speed test, I found its performance decent enough for a lag-free HD viewing experience while streaming Popcorn Time (my replacement for Terrarium TV).

What CyberGhost lacks in speed it makes up for in other departments.
For example, it’s super easy to use, so you don’t have to be a rocket scientist to navigate the apps.
It also has a dedicated mode that optimizes streaming.
So, for apps such as Terrarium TV, select the “For streaming” tab and connect to one of the suggested servers to enjoy a better streaming experience.

CyberGhost also has the traditional security and privacy features that my other VPN suggestions offer.
This includes DNS leak protection to hide your IP address while streaming Terrarium TV, a kill switch, AES 256-bit encryption, PLUS the optional perk of “NoSpy” servers.
The “NoSpy” feature comes at an extra cost ($59.88 per year), but if you’re paranoid about getting caught for streaming copyrighted content, then the additional fee is worth the peace of mind.
Essentially, these specialized servers mask your online activities from mass surveillance and third-party meddling.

CyberGhost is almost on par with ExpressVPN and unblocks content in 90+ countries.
Good news if you’re trying to stream from geo-locked platforms!
And then – a single subscription accommodates 7 multi-logins, with compatibility across operating systems, such as Mac, Android, Windows, Linux, Xbox, PlayStation, routers, Smart TVs, and more!
Furthermore, CyberGhost blocks ads at network-level.
So, you can protect all your devices from pesky Terrarium TV pop-ups when connected to the VPN network.
The prices aren’t too shabby, either, especially if you choose the 3-year subscription.

Pros
- Budget-friendly
- Lag-free HD viewing
- Novice-friendly
- DNS leak protection
- Military-grade encryption with a kill switch
- Up to 7 multi-logins with on subscription
- Blocks ads at network-level
- Compatible with most devices
Cons
- Not the fastest VPN
- You must pay extra to use the NoSpy servers
Buyer’s Guide: How to Choose the Best VPN for Terrarium TV (And Other Streaming Apps)
Did none of my VPN suggestions tickle your fancy?
That’s OK – you’re free to shop around!
Just remember to look for key features before splurging on a VPN to stream pirated content.
The last thing you want is a poor service that doesn’t give you the privacy you need when taking the risk of streaming copyrighted movies and series.
Here are the “key features” I recommend when looking for the best VPN for Terrarium TV:
Speed
A fast internet connection is needed to stream content without interruptions and buffering.
You want to enjoy all your favorite series, sports, and movies in the best video quality without lag.
A well-performing VPN can be left on all the time, and you won’t even notice that it slows down your Terrarium TV activity.
For example, when I made the comparison between streaming content without a VPN and then using ExpressVPN, the 6.7% drop in speed was not enough to make a difference to my connection (the speed remained sufficient)!
A Broad Server Network
The more countries a VPN covers, the better.
This is because some streaming services have different libraries for different locations, and it may be to your advantage if you can access them all – for example, Netflix.
In this regard, ExpressVPN covers the most countries out of all the VPNs, with CyberGhost following at a close second.
Not many other VPNs meet their coverage.
Simultaneous Connections
This feature is convenient if you want to, say, stream a movie in the background while you work on a separate VPN-secured device.
It’s also useful for work environments or large families who want to connect to a safe network at once.
Support for Various Devices
If you use your Smart TV and your mobile to watch series using apps such as Terrarium TV, you’ll want to purchase a VPN that’s compatible with different operating systems.
So, before you hit that subscribe button, head on to the VPN’s customer support portal just to make sure all the best features are available on the operating system you’re using.
Logging Policy
A surefire way to decide whether a VPN is good for third-party streaming is its logging policy.
Ideally, you want a VPN with a strict no-logs policy.
This increases your chance of remaining private and anonymous online, so authorities don’t pick up on your activity.
All the VPNs I listed have strict no-logs policies.
In fact, ExpressVPN, Surfshark, and NordVPN had their policies independently audited!
Other Considerations
Price, ease of use, and customer support are also factors to consider.
You want a VPN that falls within your budget and provides excellent value.
And then, of course, a VPN is going to be of no use to you unless you know how to use all its best features.
Customer support is an added perk that can define your user experience.
Luckily, all the VPNs on my list tick the right boxes and include the important features listed above.
So – do you really want to continue shopping, or do you want to simply pick one of the best tried and tested VPNs?
The choice is yours.
Is There an Alternative for the Terrarium TV App?

In 2021, Terrarium TV announced that it was shutting down for good.
The developers are no longer providing app support.
This is disappointing news for the community of online streamers who relied heavily on the app to get their fix of the best movies and series.
But we move on.
Even with Terrarium TV gone, there are still plenty of options to stream your shows on your chosen device.
I’ll share a few of my favorite Terrarium TV alternatives with you:
- Popcorn Time. While this third-party streaming platform is not available on the Google Play store, it’s one of the safer apps to download to your device. The app has an extensive library of movies and series to stream and even gives the option to download movies to watch when you’re offline.
For Popcorn Time, I suggest NordVPN as a top choice.
Read how to use NordVPN for Popcorn Time here.
- Kodi. Kodi is a media player that can be safely downloaded from the Google Play store. Essentially, this app allows you to install plugins that make it an entertainment hub, giving you access to content that can be streamed from different third-party apps.
- Titanium TV. This app works and functions just like Terrarium TV and has a huge catalog of movies and shows. So, if you’re looking for something a little more familiar, this is a great choice!
- CyberFlix TV. CyberFlix has been downloaded more than 10 million times, which pretty much guarantees it has something to offer. While I haven’t used the app myself, I found rave reviews supporting the platform’s ease-of-use and extensive library of the latest movies!
- TeaTV. This app was released around the same time as Terrarium TV, but it didn’t gain as much traction. What it did do was stick around! TeaTV is now an established streaming app for Android. Today, the platform is more competitive and houses an impressive library of content.
A quick search will show you that there’s a myriad of streaming apps to choose from.
However, they are not all safe.
Saying this, a quality VPN will help secure your network and should keep malware and prying eyes at bay.
How to Stay Safe When Using Third-Party Apps for Streaming?

Now that the official Terrarium TV website is offline, streamers are flocking to alternative solutions, with plenty of fake versions of Terrarium TV available to download.
But beware!
These apps can contain malware and tracking software, making you vulnerable to cybercrimes.
If you plan on using a free or third-party streaming app of any kind, make sure you stay safe and only access it using a VPN.
You can also stay safe while streaming by doing the following:
Avoid sharing your details.
Never reveal your real name when signing up for an app that you think is unsafe.
The same applies to your contact information.
I also suggest creating a separate email account to sign up with.
Use a strong password.
The longer and more complex your password is, the better.
This will help prevent cybercriminals from hacking into your streaming account.
Make sure that everyone who uses your network follows the same safety protocols discussed above.
If your friends or family use your internet connection but fail to practice safety online, this puts you at risk!
Make sure your people are on board with your rules for safe online browsing and streaming!
How to Use a VPN for Streaming?
Want to know how to use a VPN for streaming?
Here’s how you do it in just a few easy steps:
- Choose a quality paid VPN that’s suitable for streaming. I still choose ExpressVPN as my number one VPN for streaming apps. If you agree, get it here.
- Now, download and install your chosen VPN to your device.
- Connect to any country from which you’d like to unblock new movies.
- Last, download Terrarium TV or your streaming app alternative – and watch your content safely!
FAQ
Why Do I Need a VPN for Terrarium TV?
You need a VPN for Terrarium TV or any alternative so that you can protect your identity while streaming copyrighted material.
A good Terrarium TV VPN will ensure you never have to worry about legal issues or cybercriminals.
It will also give you the advantage of unblocking censored movies and series from restricted locations.
With a VPN, you can enjoy an unrivaled level of internet privacy.
Your activity won’t be logged, and there will be little to no opportunity for hackers to infuse your accounts with malware.
Essentially, you’ll be able to sit back, relax, and watch your shows without worrying about being charged for watching copyrighted material (which does happen)!
Can I Use a Free VPN With Terrarium TV?
I recommend avoiding using a free VPN with Terrarium TV accounts and other streaming apps.
To start – free VPNs are often riddled with data limits and bandwidth restrictions.
They also slow your connection more than paid-for options.
Last, free VPNs have fewer features than paid subscriptions and won’t guarantee your privacy or safety.
Streaming content using third-party apps can be dangerous.
To ensure you don’t become a victim when streaming your favorite shows, invest in a VPN.
If budget is a concern, choose one of the cheaper VPNs, such as AtlasVPN or CyberGhost.
Both options are affordable and safe to use for streaming.
Is Terrarium TV Legal in India?
The Terrarium TV app is (was) legal in India and other countries across the globe.
However, since it holds pirated versions of original content, it’s a violation of Copyrights.
Terrarium TV is a third-party app with third-party videos and thus separates itself from being an illegal platform.
It’s therefore completely legal to use in India and other countries.
But watching Copyrighted material is illegal, and this is where you can find yourself in trouble.
If you’re caught streaming content that’s not original or paid-for, then, depending on your region, you can be subject to penalties and, in some cases, imprisonment.
When Will Terrarium TV Be Back?
There’s no certainty when or if Terrarium TV will be back.
The developers are no longer providing app support and are encouraging users to uninstall the app immediately.
But the Terrarium TV app was shut down before, in September 2018, and was thereafter revived.
This means there is always the chance the original platform makes a reappearance in the months or years to come.
For now, the developers have gone quiet, and there is no promise or hint that Terrarium TV will be back.
Closing Words
Terrarium TV used to be one of my favorite streaming apps, and it’s a pity it’s no longer available.
But I’ve moved on and now enjoy Popcorn Time as a good alternative when I’m not watching Netflix or Showmax.
But no matter what platform I’m using to stream my movies, series, or sports – I always make sure that I connect to a VPN network to make sure my details are hidden.
And this is where I know my top VPN – ExpressVPN – has my back!
