After moving from the US to Europe, I had to use a VPN to keep watching Mr. Robot on Amazon (US).

Luckily, my best VPN for Amazon Prime Video, Surfshark, made it easy.

Specifically, I used Surfshark to unblock Prime Video’s US, UK, and JP libraries.

Surfshark isn’t the only VPN on my list, though.

I tested dozens of VPNs, and five others unblocked Amazon Prime so easily that I had to add them!

Best Choice

Surfshark is one of the few VPNs on my list that unblocks any Amazon Prime Video library you want – whenever you want it! On top of that, Surfshark’s super-fast speeds ensure your 4K (or HD) viewing experience has no buffering. Plus, you’ll get 600+ US servers in 23+ cities, so unblocking Prime Video’s US library – the biggest one on Amazon – is quick and easy.

What Are the Best VPNs for Amazon Prime Video?

In the following reviews, you’ll discover why each VPN is an optimal choice for watching Amazon Prime Video.

You’ll also see a table in each review with all the important bits for unblocking Prime (including reliable servers), so you can unblock it too!

Let’s get streaming!

1. Surfshark – Unblocks Any Prime Video Library 24/7 (600+ US Servers in 23+ Cities)

surfshark vpn for streaming
Amazon Prime Video Criteria: Surfshark’s Results:
Speed Drop? (US Server) 11.27 Mbps
Fastest Protocol? WireGuard
US Servers? 600+
Best Server for US Prime Video? US Boston
Apps for Amazon Devices? PC, Mobile, FireTV, and more
Amazon Reliability Rating? 10/10
SmartDNS? Yes
Dedicated IP? No

Surfshark flew past every VPN on my list, thanks to its ability to unblock Amazon Prime 24/7.

A great example for comparison is my second choice, ExpressVPN.

ExpressVPN is my go-to for streaming.

However, a couple of times, it failed to unblock Amazon Prime.

After the second time, I searched for a VPN that wouldn’t fail.

Surfshark was that VPN.

Now, I use Surfshark to unblock many Prime Video libraries, though my favorite is the US, with its massive collection of content.

Amazon Prime UK and JP aren’t bad, either.

But the US library was my main focus, so when I saw that Surfshark has 600+ US servers in 23+ cities, I was blown away.

That’s the third-biggest pool of US servers on my list!

It’s also more than enough to unblock Prime Video US quickly and easily.

Plus, if you run into issues, you’ll have plenty of servers to switch to!

But I don’t expect you will (I didn’t).

streaming amazon prime with surrfshark vpn

On the other hand, if Amazon Prime US doesn’t tickle your fancy, Surfshark also has servers in other popular Prime regions, like the UK, Japan, and many European countries.

All in all, you’ll get 3,200+ servers in 65 countries.

Now for the best part.

Surfshark has crazy-fast speeds, meaning you can stream in 4K (or HD) without buffering!

It actually came second to ExpressVPN, my fastest VPN for Amazon Prime, with a speed drop of just 11.27 Mbps.

Take a look!

Speed Without Surfshark:

Speed With Surfshark:

speed test result with surfshark vpn

Moving on, Surfshark also has robust leak protection and passed all of my leak tests (IP, DNS, and WebRTC).

This means your real location will never get leaked to Amazon – which is good, as using a VPN to bypass region restrictions is a violation of Amazon’s ToS.

You don’t want to risk a ban!

There’s more good news, too.

Surfshark is compatible with dozens of devices, including Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android.

So, if you watch Amazon Prime on your PC or smartphone, you can still do so with Surfshark.

On top of that, Surfshark supports Amazon Fire TV Stick!

This is pretty rare for a VPN – which is why I ensured every VPN on my list does so.

surfshark platforms

There is one area where Surfshark falls behind, though.

It doesn’t offer a Dedicated IP add-on – something that eliminates the possibility of a VPN IP getting flagged by Amazon due to too many users sharing it.

NordVPN, PIA, and CyberGhost all offer this add-on – and PrivateVPN has a free alternative that’s pretty effective.

Meanwhile, Surfshark has static shared servers, which are meaningless for unblocking Amazon Prime Video.

surfshark static ip servers

On the bright side, as I said earlier, Surfshark never gives me issues with Prime.

In fact, it unblocks loads of other streaming services, including Netflix, Hulu, BBC iPlayer, and Disney Plus.

Plus, there’s another benefit to Surfshark.

Its SmartDNS feature lets you stream Amazon Prime Video US on your Smart TV or game console without a complicated setup.

AKA: just change your DNS settings, and voila!

You can stream to your heart’s content!

surfshark vpn smart dns feature

This is my favorite Surfshark feature and the one I use the most to stream Prime (via my 4K LG Smart TV).

And though most VPNs on my list offer this feature (only PrivateVPN doesn’t), I’ve had the best luck with Surfshark.

Finally, in closing, Surfshark also has affordable prices – mostly on long-term plans, as its monthly plan is pretty expensive:

2. ExpressVPN – Fastest VPN for Amazon Prime Video (24+ US Servers in 15 Cities)

expressvpn for amazon prime
Amazon Prime Video Criteria: ExpressVPN’s Results:
Speed Drop? (US Server) 10.91 Mbps
Fastest Protocol? Lightway UDP
US Servers? 24+
Best Server for US Prime Video? US New York
Apps for Amazon Devices? PC, Mobile, FireTV, Kindle Fire, and more
Amazon Reliability Rating? 8.5/10
SmartDNS? Yes (MediaStreamer)
Dedicated IP? No

ExpressVPN had the top performance in my 4K streaming tests with Amazon Prime Video, earning it a second place on my list.

To put it in simpler terms – ExpressVPN is the fastest VPN for Prime Video, with a speed drop of just 10.91 Mbps.

Here are my speed test results!

Speed Without ExpressVPN:

speed test result without expressvpn

Speed With ExpressVPN:

speed test result with expressvpn

These results washed away all the other VPNs on my list, including Surfshark (which placed second).

And, as expected, it caused zero buffering when I used my 4K Smart TV, Windows PC, and other devices to stream Amazon Prime US.

That’s right, I tested ExpressVPN with Amazon Prime on several devices – my LG Smart TV, Windows PC, Android phone, iOS phone, and PS4 – and every stream was buffer-free and lightning-fast.

The easiest method was using ExpressVPN’s MediaStreamer feature to stream Mr. Robot via Prime Video’s US library.

In fact, like Surfshark, ExpressVPN’s MediaStreamer is my favorite feature since it makes watching Prime US on my Smart TV and PS4 easy.

expressvpn media streamer

But unlike Surfshark, there were times when MediaStreamer didn’t work.

And it’s a somewhat regular thing – I use ExpressVPN a lot and have issues with MediaStreamer a couple of times a month.

Granted, it’s not an everyday thing.

However, considering Surfshark lets me stream Amazon Prime whenever I want (SmartDNS or not), it is annoying.

On the bright side, ExpressVPN’s other features (especially speed) still make it a worthy choice for Amazon Video.

For example, if you want to unblock Prime US, you’ll get 24+ US servers in 15 cities.

streaming amazon prime with expressvpn

(Ignore the “Update Now” – I updated it immediately after this screenshot, I promise!)

That might not seem like a lot (it’s the second-smallest offering on my list), but it’s still enough to quickly and easily watch Elliot in all his hacker glory!

ExpressVPN also has servers in other Prime regions, including the UK, Japan, and many European countries.

In fact, you’ll get 3,000+ servers in 94 countries overall – so plenty of Amazon libraries to choose from!

Moving on, ExpressVPN has setups for all your Amazon devices, including apps for Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android, FireTV, Kindle Fire, and more.

expressvpn available platforms

This means you can easily enjoy your favorite region-restricted shows (like Dexter and American Horror Story) on whatever device you want!

In fact, ExpressVPN has the most device setups – and apps – on my list!

ExpressVPN also has reliable leak protection – proven with negative results in my IP, DNS, and WebRTC leak tests.

This means Amazon won’t ban your real IP via an accidental leak (especially problematic if you’re paying for a Prime subscription!).

Now for the bad news.

As mentioned in my Surfshark review, ExpressVPN is reliable – but not 10/10 reliable.

I had more issues with MediaStreamer than the app.

But even the app didn’t unblock Prime a handful of times – maybe three or four times over four months.

mr. robot on amazon prime

So, it’s not terrible.

And usually, waiting an hour or so will do the trick.

But it’s not as reliable as Surfshark, earning it second instead of first.

On top of that, ExpressVPN doesn’t have a Dedicated IP add-on, meaning the server you use might get blocked by Amazon.

But, as a last enticing bonus, ExpressVPN is phenomenal at unblocking other streaming services!

It’s my top choice for Hulu and also unblocks Netflix, BBC iPlayerHBO, Disney Plus, and more.

Although, it’s expensive – the most expensive on my list, even with long-term plans.

3. PrivateVPN – VPN for Prime Users on a Budget (12+ US Servers & Cities)

Amazon Prime Video Criteria: PrivateVPN’s Results:
Speed Drop? (US Server) 12.88 Mbps
Fastest Protocol? OpenVPN UDP
US Servers? 12+
Best Server for US Prime Video? US New York (Dedicated IP)
Apps for Amazon Devices? PC, Mobile, FireTV, and more
Amazon Reliability Rating? 9.8/10
SmartDNS? No
Dedicated IP? No – (Free) Private Dynamic Servers

PrivateVPN could’ve placed second on my list of the most reliable VPNs for Amazon Prime Video since it’s more reliable than ExpressVPN at unblocking it.

But there are a few reasons it didn’t.

I won’t get too far ahead, though – let’s start with why PrivateVPN is a great choice for watching Amazon Prime.

First, to repeat, it’s more reliable than ExpressVPN.

In fact, it’s the only VPN besides Surfshark that didn’t give me a single issue.

I unblocked numerous Prime Video libraries, including the US, the UK, Japan, and a few European ones (like Germany and the Netherlands).

streaming amazon prime with privatevpn

And you know by now that the US is my favorite Prime library – so here’s a double-sided sword: PrivateVPN only has 12+ US servers in 12 cities.

That’s the smallest on my list.

At the same time, as I said, I had no trouble accessing Prime’s US library…so how vital is PrivateVPN’s small US server park?

It depends.

If you have issues unblocking Amazon Prime, you won’t have many servers to switch between.

But there’s hope that you won’t have issues.

So, I’ll leave that potential drawback in your hands.

Moving on, PrivateVPN at least has servers in other Prime regions, which is how I unblocked its UK, JP, DE, and NL libraries.

It’s also pretty fast, scoring fourth in my speed tests, with a drop of 12.88 Mbps.

Here are those results.

Speed Without PrivateVPN:

speed test result without privatevpn

Speed With PrivateVPN:

speed test result with privatevpn

Needless to say, it’s no surprise I didn’t experience any buffering during my Amazon Prime streams – even in 4K!

Now for another downside.

PrivateVPN is the only VPN on my list that doesn’t have a SmartDNS feature.

This means watching Amazon on your Smart TV and/or game console isn’t as easy as typing in a DNS address.

But there is something that makes up for this.

PrivateVPN is the only VPN on my list with free private dynamic servers.

AKA: you can connect to an IP that no other user has access to, stopping Amazon from blocking it due to too many users using it.

privatevpn dedicated ip torrent servers

Don’t be fooled by the “Dedicated IP/Torrent” tag, either.

The IPs are great for torrenting and streaming Prime!

That said, the private dynamic servers aren’t as useful as Dedicated IPs.

They’re not shared, but you also can’t use the same IP once you disconnect.

This means you’ll connect to Amazon via numerous IPs every time, which is also a red flag.

But it’s better to have private dynamic servers than shared dynamic servers (or shared static servers), like ExpressVPN and Surfshark!

Plus, while Dedicated IPs restrict you to one region, PrivateVPN’s dynamic servers let you choose between 16 countries.

As for other Amazon devices, PrivateVPN is less thorough than the other VPNs on my list but still has apps for Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and FireTV.

So, streaming Prime Video from your favorite Amazon device is easy!

privatevpn app on an amazon device

Finally, PrivateVPN has robust leak protection and unblocks other streaming services, including Netflix, Hulu, BBC iPlayer, and Disney Plus.

And, as promised, it’s the perfect choice for Amazon users on a budget!

4. NordVPN – Most US Servers for Prime Video (1970+ US servers in 15 Cities)

Amazon Prime Video Criteria: NordVPN’s Results:
Speed Drop? (US Server) 11.21 Mbps
Fastest Protocol? NordLynx
US Servers? 1970+
Best Server for US Prime Video? US #5058
Apps for Amazon Devices? PC, Mobile, FireTV, Kindle Fire, and more
Amazon Reliability Rating? 7.9/10
SmartDNS? Yes
Dedicated IP? Yes ($70-$76/year)

NordVPN is a personal favorite, so I was happy to see that it reliably unblocks Prime…for the most part.

Let’s start there.

NordVPN has the most US servers on my list1,970+ servers in 15 cities.

This isn’t just a good thing; it’s essential, as not every US server unblocks Amazon Prime’s US library

Really, with so many US servers, that’s to be expected.

The annoying part is that NordVPN support says every US server should unblock Amazon Prime US when using the app.

But that wasn’t the case for me.

nordvpn customer support

In the end, I was told they had no other solution besides trial and error – which is fine because, as I said, I did connect to a working server after a few tries.

nordvpn customer representative

But it does put NordVPN behind other VPNs on my list, like Surfshark and PrivateVPN – and even ExpressVPN!

Luckily, with so many US servers to “trial and error,” one is bound to unblock Prime eventually.

It took me about 5 minutes to enjoy American Horror Story on US Prime with NordVPN during my tests.

streaming amazon prime with nordvpn

Of course, NordVPN also has servers in other Prime regions, including the UK, Japan, and many European countries.

In fact, its overall server network consists of 5,200+ servers in 60 countries!

That’s plenty of Prime libraries to choose from!

On top of that, NordVPN scored third in my speed tests, with a drop of 11.21 Mbps.

Take a look.

Speed Without NordVPN:

speed test result without nordvpn

Speed With NordVPN:

So, it’s no surprise my 4K streaming was flawless and buffer-free on every device I tested.

And speaking of testing devices – NordVPN has a SmartDNS service that lets you stream Amazon Prime Video’s US library on your Smart TV or game console.

It’s reliable, too – more reliable than NordVPN’s app!

In fact, I never struggled to watch my favorite Prime Video shows at all with the SmartDNS feature.

nordvpn smartdns

But if you prefer watching Amazon Prime on other devices, NordVPN is still a reliable choice.

You’ll get apps and setups for all major Amazon devices, including Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android, FireTV, Kindle Fire, and more.

On top of that, NordVPN’s robust leak protection passed all of my tests – so your real location won’t get discovered by Amazon (and you won’t get banned as a result).

But NordVPN’s saving grace is its Dedicated IP add-on.

nordvpn dedicated ip

You can choose a permanent IP address from the US, UK, Netherlands, France, and Germany.

I recommend the US or UK for the most Prime content.

But whatever country you choose, it’s easy to avoid Amazon blocking your IP, as you’re the only one using it!

There is a catch, though.

NordVPN’s Dedicated IP is the most expensive on my list at $70 to $76 per year.

You’re also forced into a yearly subscription, whereas PIA and CyberGhost offer monthly options, lower prices, and major savings on long-term subs.

nordvpn dedicated ip add on

On the bright side, you can use your NordVPN Dedicated IP (if it’s in the US) to watch Hulu, Netflix, and Disney Plus – or BBC iPlayer if it’s in the UK.

Otherwise, the normal servers unblock most streaming services, too.

As for prices, NordVPN is pretty affordable, falling somewhere in the middle.

Although, you’ll get great savings on long-term plans!

Of course, you’ll get the MOST savings by using my discount link!

5. Private Internet Access – Prime Video VPN With Port Forwarding (428+ US Servers in 3+ Cities)

private internet access (pia) page
Amazon Prime Video Criteria: PIA’s Results:
Speed Drop? (US Server) 15.81 Mbps
Fastest Protocol? WireGuard
US Servers? 428+
Best Server for US Prime Video? US East Streaming Optimized
Apps for Amazon Devices? PC, Mobile, FireTV, and more
Amazon Reliability Rating? 8.9/10
SmartDNS? Yes
Dedicated IP? Yes ($5/month & long-term savings)

Private Internet Access (PIA) brings a must-have feature to my list of the best VPNs for Amazon Prime: the WireGuard protocol.

In fact, this protocol is the only reason PIA makes the list.

Now, PIA isn’t the only one with WireGuard.

Many other VPNs on my list have the WireGuard protocol or a WireGuard fork or an equally fast protocol (like Lightway).

But PIA is the only VPN where WireGuard is essential.

private internet access (pia) wireguard protocol

It all has to do with speed.

First, PIA is great at unblocking Amazon Prime.

There’s no denying that – like Surfshark and PrivateVPN, I had no issues.

However, PIA is so low on my list because, without WireGuard, my speed was so bad that I had almost constant buffering and a fuzzy picture.

Don’t get me wrong – WireGuard isn’t a miracle for ultra-fast speeds.

In fact, PIA still placed fifth in my tests, even with WireGuard (15.81 Mbps drop).

But the constant buffering stopped, and I only experienced a stutter every 40-60 minutes.

Here’s a closer look at my speed test results.

Speed Without PIA:

speed test result without private internet access (pia)

Speed With PIA:

speed test result with private internet access (pia) vpn

Keep in mind the buffering was with my stubbornness streaming in 4K.

You’re less likely to get it if you opt for HD.

On the bright side, as I said, PIA is reliable at unblocking Prime Video, whether you want to access its US library, UK library, etc.

PIA actually has 428+ US servers in 3+ cities – that’s the fourth-biggest US server park on my list.

It even has two streaming-optimized US servers!

streaming amazon prime with private internet access (pia) vpn

As for the overall server network, the last known number is 31,000+ servers in 78 countries.

So, you’re sure to find your favorite Amazon Prime region for the best content!

PIA is also one of the only VPNs on my list with one-click port forwarding – an excellent way to boost your speeds.

The catch?

You can’t port forward on US servers.

But if you want to watch UK Prime Video, you’re in luck!

pia request port forwarding 1

Moving on, PIA is compatible with most Amazon devices, including Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, FireTV, and more.

This means it’s easy to watch AHS on any Amazon device you want.

Of course, PIA also has robust leak protection that passed all of my tests, meaning Amazon can’t get sneaky and ban your real IP (a pain for Prime subscribers, especially if you share with family members who don’t use a VPN).

Now for the two features that would’ve given PIA a higher place if its speeds were better – SmartDNS and a Dedicated IP add-on.

First, its SmartDNS feature is a mixed bag.

When I used it to stream Prime US on my PS4 and LG Smart TV, it introduced some buffering.

However, unlike most SmartDNS, you can choose other regions besides the US.

Specifically, PIA offers its SmartDNS in the US, UK, Netherlands, Germany, and Japan.

private internet access (pia) smart dns setup

So, when I connected to Germany, the buffering stopped.

The problem is I have no interest in Prime Video’s DE library.

It’s pretty much the same as the SK one (I’m in Slovakia).

Luckily, PIA’s Dedicated IP brings better news.

It’s cheaper than NordVPN and doesn’t require a yearly commitment.

Instead, you can buy 1 month for $5 – but if you opt for a longer sub, you can get huge savings!

For example, 3 years saves you 25% at $135.

private internet access vp dedicated ip durations

Plus, you can expect faster streaming speeds with a dedicated IP, as you’re the only one using the server.

There are also several countries to choose from, including the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, and Singapore.

Now for the last downside – PIA can unblock other streaming services, but not reliably.

However, you can access most of them at the time of writing, including Hulu, Netflix, and BBC iPlayer.

PIA is also fairly priced.

It’s actually on the cheaper side compared to other VPNs on my list (especially ExpressVPN):

Throw in this HUGE discount, and PIA is another great choice for Prime users on a budget!

6. CyberGhost – Dedicated Prime Video Servers (1316+ US Servers in 11+ Cities)

cyberghost vpn for prime video
Amazon Prime Video Criteria: CyberGhost’s Results:
Speed Drop? (US Server) 17.54 Mbps
Fastest Protocol? WireGuard
US Servers? 1316+
Best Server for US Prime Video? US New York
Apps for Amazon Devices? PC, Mobile, FireTV, and more
Amazon Reliability Rating? 7/10
SmartDNS? Yes – But it doesn’t work for Prime
Dedicated IP? Yes ($5/month & long-term savings)

The last VPN on my list of the most trustworthy VPNs for Amazon Prime is CyberGhost – and it places last for a reason similar to PIA: speed.

However, unlike PIA, reliability also plays a part.

First, though, let’s discuss why CyberGhost is on my list at all, starting with its dedicated servers.

That’s right; you’ll get dedicated servers for Amazon Prime (PC/mobile) in several regions, including the US, UK, Japan, and Germany.

cyberghost connected to germany server

This is cool, especially as CyberGhost is the only VPN on my list with dedicated servers for Amazon Prime.

And a lot of them are reliable!

But I did have problems with the Amazon Prime US servers, which (as you know by now) is the region I use the most.

cyberghost vpn connected to us server

In fact, I couldn’t get them to work at all.

Luckily, I had better luck with a non-dedicated US server.

And considering CyberGhost has 1,316+ of them in 11+ cities, you should find a working one pretty fast.

Now, let’s discuss another feature that should place CyberGhost higher…but doesn’t.

Its SmartDNS feature.

First, it’s a pain to find.

The VPN provider links you to your client area and says, “Head to SmartDNS.”

But SmartDNS is nowhere to be found.

access cyberghost account dashboard

It’s hidden under “Products > VPN.”

cyberghost smart dns

The next problem – there’s no dedicated Amazon Prime DNS address.

But there is a “Geolocation US Address.”

geolocation us address

The catch?

It doesn’t unblock Prime US.

In fact, I’ve tried accessing Prime Video with that DNS address (and the Hulu and Netflix ones) several times over the last year.

I remember it working once or twice.

I also remember giving up when my show or movie kept buffering.

So, that eliminates CyberGhost’s SmartDNS feature as a pro for Amazon Prime users.

This leads me to my biggest problem.

CyberGhost is slow.

It’s one of the slowest VPNs I’ve ever tested, and it regularly places last in speed tests.

This time was no exception.

It had a speed loss of 17.54 Mbps.

Mind you, that’s better than past results with a 20-30 Mbps loss!

Take a look.

Speed Without CyberGhost:

speed test result without cyberghost vpn

Speed With CyberGhost:

speed test result with cyberghost vpn

But it’s still not fast enough to enjoy 4K streaming without some buffering.

Luckily, the buffering isn’t enough to ruin the experience completely.

You’ll get slightly more stutters than PIA, maybe every 30 minutes or so.

Now for the main reason CyberGhost placed on my list: its dedicated IP add-on.

Like PIA, CyberGhost has an affordable Dedicated IP that you can purchase as a $5 monthly subscription or longer for lots of savings – for example, 1 year saves you 15% at $51.

cyberghost dedicated ip add on

There are also plenty of regions to choose from: the US, UK, Singapore, France, Germany, Canada, and Australia.

But the biggest advantages of CyberGhost’s Dedicated IP are that it reliably unblocks whatever Amazon Prime region the IP is in and gives you faster speeds than the regular servers – meaning no buffering, even in 4K!

Of course, it also means the IP won’t get blocked by Amazon due to too many users using it.

So, if you opt for CyberGhost’s Dedicated IP, you might prefer it over the other VPNs on my list for unblocking Amazon Prime.

But without it, the provider is hit or miss.

streaming amazon prime with cyberghost vpn

As for a few last bonuses, CyberGhost also has robust leak protection, unblocks other streaming services (like Netflix and Hulu), and supports most Amazon devices, including Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, FireTV, and more.

Plus, you can save big on long-term plans:

But if you click here, you’ll save EVEN MORE!

What to Look for in the Best VPN for Amazon Prime Video?

amazon prime video

If you’re hoping to find an even better VPN than those on my list…good luck!

I won’t stop you, but at least check this section, so you don’t get scammed or regret your purchase.

If You Want to Watch Hand of God on US Prime Video ASAP, Grab This Checklist First!

First, there are many criteria you need to consider when searching for the best VPN for Prime Video.

Luckily, I made this checklist to help you!

Read it carefully:

Unblocks Amazon Prime

It’s easy for VPNs to say they unblock Amazon Prime Video.

It’s not as easy for them to actually deliver on that claim.

On top of that, remember there are different Prime libraries – so the one you want to access needs to be accessible with your VPN.

I recommend finding a VPN that unblocks Amazon Prime US, as it has the most content.

Luckily, you can do so without wasting your money.

Follow these steps:

  1. Choose 1-3 reliable VPNs and check that they offer a money-back guarantee.
  2. If they do, purchase a subscription. If they don’t, find a new VPN – no trustworthy VPN lacks a money-back guarantee.
  3. After purchasing, downloading, and installing your VPN, test it with your preferred Amazon Prime library. Do so over a 2-3 week period.
  4. If it reliably unblocks Prime every time, keep it. If it doesn’t, contact support for a refund before the money-back guarantee period expires (most are 30 days).

Servers in the Prime Library You Want to Unblock

Your VPN won’t help you if it doesn’t have servers in the Prime region you want to unblock.

And the more servers it has in that region, the more options you have if one server doesn’t work.

Again, I recommend Amazon Prime’s US library.

If you want to skip the stress, grab one of my recommended VPNs instead.

Here’s a recap on their number of US servers:

VPN Provider: US Servers:
Surfshark 600+ servers in 23+ cities
ExpressVPN 24+ servers in 15 cities
PrivateVPN 12+ servers in 12 cities
NordVPN 1970+ servers in 15 cities
PIA 428+ servers in 3+ cities
CyberGhost 1316+ servers in 11+ cities

4K Streaming Speeds

When you test if your VPN can unblock Amazon Prime, keep a close eye on its streaming speeds.

If you plan to stream in 4K (or HD), ensure there’s no buffering when doing so.

Or, again, skip the stress and choose one of my top VPNs instead.

Here’s a recap of their speed test results using US servers:

VPN Provider: Speed Loss:
Surfshark 11.27 Mbps
ExpressVPN 10.91 Mbps
PrivateVPN 12.88 Mbps
NordVPN 11.21 Mbps
PIA 15.81 Mbps

Amazon Prime is available on many devices – from PC and mobile phones to FireTV and game consoles.

So, finding a VPN that supports all your Amazon devices is a must.

Beyond that, test your VPN with your devices before the refund period expires.

Leak Protection

Leak protection will stop your real IP from leaking while using your VPN.

This is essential because if your IP leaks, it can result in Amazon banning your IP.

This can be an issue if other household members use Amazon without a VPN.

It also increases the chance of your account getting banned due to violating Amazon’s ToS.

So, find a VPN with robust leak protection (DNS, WebRTC, IP, and IPv6 if you have an IPv6 address).

Bonus Features

Bonus features to consider are port forwarding for better streaming speeds, SmartDNS features for easily streaming Prime on game consoles and SmartTVs, and Dedicated IP add-ons for a private, permanent IP address that makes unblocking Prime easier and safer.

Finally, compare different prices, plans, and features before settling on a VPN.

And ensure you actually test them, too – don’t just take the VPN’s word!

Can You Stream Prime Video With a Free VPN?

A free VPN isn’t a reliable option for unblocking Prime Video.

In fact, I didn’t find a single free VPN that works with Amazon Prime.

I don’t recommend searching for yourself, either.

Most free VPNs are untrustworthy.

They might sell your data.

They could even be malware.

Even the trustworthy ones are unreliable for Prime, with data caps and limited server parks.

Instead, stick to a premium VPN for Amazon Prime Video.

Amazon Prime VPN Not Working? (Troubleshooting)

If your the best Amazon Prime VPN isn’t working, try the following troubleshooting steps (in no specific order):

  • Reset your router, check your internet, etc. Go over the basics to eliminate a simple problem.
  • Uninstall and reinstall your VPN. If you’re using an Amazon Prime app, do the same. Also, ensure everything is updated.
  • In your VPN app, switch servers, VPN protocols, etc., to see if any of that is the issue. Additionally, if you have a feature enabled, try disabling it.
  • If you’re watching Amazon Prime in a browser, try using Incognito Mode. If this works, clear your browser’s cache and/or cookies.
  • Contact your VPN’s customer support team for further troubleshooting steps if all else fails.

One last thing – ensure you’re not using one of the VPNs in the next section:

So, if you have difficulties watching Amazon, ensure you’re not using one of these VPN services:

  • Opera VPN
  • Hide.me
  • Windscribe
  • Buffered
  • CactusVPN
  • TunnelBear
  • LiquidVPN

Amazon identifies VPN users by the IP they’re connecting with.

There are several ways the streaming platform does so.

It might reference a database of known VPN IPs and block any that try connecting to its website/app.

Or it might block an IP address if too many users connect with it.

This is why it’s essential to find a VPN that reliably unblocks Amazon Prime, like Surfshark.

Alternatively, you can get a VPN with a Dedicated IP, like NordVPN.

It’s legal to unblock Amazon Prime with a VPN.

The only reason Amazon Prime has region-locked content is because of licensing agreements.

For example, an entertainment company (like Disney) might have a licensing agreement with a streaming service (like Amazon Prime) that involves numerous TV shows and movies.

However, that licensing agreement might say that the streaming service can only share that movie with a handful of countries.

This might be because the entertainment company has licensing agreements with other streaming services for the same content in other countries.

Or it might be something else.

Either way, using a VPN to bypass those licensing agreements isn’t illegal.

Using a VPN to bypass Amazon’s region restrictions violates its Terms of Service, meaning, technically, your account could get banned as a result.

However, I couldn’t find any reports of people getting banned for this.

You’re more likely to experience a VPN block, though using a reliable VPN will decrease that likelihood too.

Although Amazon Prime Video used to be restricted to the US, the UK, Japan, Germany, and Austria, it’s now available worldwidesave for a few countries: Mainland China, Iran, North Korea, and Syria.

However, the size of your Prime Video library depends on the country you’re in.

Amazon Prime’s US library has the most content, though its UK library isn’t far behind.

If your VPN is slow, it can cause buffering when you stream Amazon Prime.

However, the best VPNs will let you stream in 4K without so much as a stutter.

If you’re looking for the fastest VPN for Prime, I recommend ExpressVPN.

It performed spectacularly on all of my Amazon devices.
