NordVPN Basic is the full VPN, and for most people it is the plan to buy. It costs $3.49 a month on the 2-year plan ($94.23 up front for 27 months), $4.99 a month on the 1-year plan during the Black Friday sale ($74.85 for 15 months) or $14.99 month to month, before sales tax. You get every server in 150 countries, 10 devices at the same time, and NordVPN’s security features; the pricier Complete ($3.99 a month) and Prime ($6.99) plans add antivirus, a password manager, cloud storage and identity protection on top of the same VPN.

Buy Basic if you already have antivirus and a password manager, or only want the VPN. Buy Complete if you would otherwise pay for those tools: on the 2-year plan it costs 50 cents a month more. Prime only makes sense if you want identity theft insurance with your VPN.

Two things the price screen does not shout about. First, the monthly rate is an equivalent: you pay the whole term up front, so the 2-year plan is one payment of $94.23, not $3.49 a month. Second, every yearly plan renews at the full price, $139.08 a year for Basic, so the cheap rate is the first term only. The VPN is identical on all three. Here is what each step up adds, from NordVPN’s plan comparison and its US checkout:

Complete for 50 cents more. During the Black Friday sale the gap between Basic and Complete shrank to $13.50 over 27 months. If you have no antivirus or password manager, Complete is the better buy; its renewal is higher, though ($219.48 against $139.08), so count what you will pay in year three as well.

Prime is for the insurance. It costs $81 more than Complete over the first term and adds Coveron identity protection, TransUnion credit-freeze assistance and the insurance policies. Skip it if you do not want that cover.

Where the NordVPN Plus Plan Went

If you are searching for NordVPN Plus, you are looking at last year’s line-up. In 2025 NordVPN sold Basic, Plus, Complete and Prime, with Plus adding the Threat Protection Pro tools and NordPass to the VPN. The US line-up is now Basic, Complete and Prime, and Complete contains everything Plus did plus the 1 TB of cloud storage. Older names such as Standard, Ultimate and Ultra turn up in reviews and videos too; they map onto today’s three tiers, and the checkout always shows the current names.
