PureVPN does not have DDoS protection.

The VPN provider used to offer its DDoS protection as a standalone, paid-for package. However, it abandoned the feature, so you’ll have to look elsewhere for DDoS Protection.

Thankfully, other impressive VPNs are offering DDoS protection at no additional cost.

PureVPN Alternatives for DDoS Protection

While PureVPN lacks DDoS Protection, other VPNs provide it as part of their standard service. Here are the three most trusted providers in that category:

PrivateVPN - DDoS Protection on Standard and Dedicated IP Servers

PrivateVPN offers its DDoS protection by default once you connect to any of its servers. Furthermore, the provider improves your online security with dedicated IP addresses, offering a unique (but dynamic/changing) IP address with installed anti-DDoS security.

However, PrivateVPN only has 200+ servers in 63 countries, compared to PureVPN’s 6500+. But considering that PureVPN’s haul is exposed to DDoS attacks, PrivateVPN’s servers are worth more than their weight in gold, protection-wise.

Grab these PrivateVPN discounts to save on the robust VPN service and anti-DDoS measures.

NordVPN - Automatic DDoS Protection on 5700+ Servers

NordVPN’s plans offer 5700+ servers in 60 countries, all with robust security measures to stop DDoS attacks in their tracks. This massive server count also means you can switch servers all day to frustrate anyone targeting your IP address.

Furthermore, NordVPN provides P2P servers optimized for peer-to-peer gaming. So, you don’t have to fear frozen screens or getting locked out mid-game when playing P2P titles like Overwatch, GTA V Online, etc.

Fortunately, NordVPN doesn’t cost an arm and a leg, especially when you apply these fantastic deals.

Surfshark - DDoS Protection for Unlimited Devices

Surfshark also excels by offering anti-DDoS security on its 3200+ server fleet in 100+ countries. However, its most significant selling point is the unlimited simultaneous connections, ensuring the provider can secure everyone in your household.

For that, you’d expect Surfshark to cost a tidy sum. Quite the contrary!

How to Enable VPN DDoS Protection?

After getting any of my recommended VPNs, you don’t need to buy a separate anti-DDoS package. Here’s how to enable the feature on your devices using PrivateVPN:

  1. Buy a Private plan. Grab these discounts and pick the multi-year deal for the best price/savings.

  1. Download the VPN app for your device(s). PrivateVPN allows ten simultaneous connections across PCs and mobile units.

  1. Launch the VPN app and install it. I’m using its Windows PC app for this demonstration.
  2. Log in with your account email and password. These were created in Step 1.
  3. Choose a suitable connection protocol from the settings. Click “Connection Type” and choose “OpenVPN (TUN+UDP+1194) (Default).” The other protocols offer DDoS protection but aren’t as fast/stable.

  1. Enable the VPN’s kill switch. Go through Connection > Kill Switch and toggle it on. This is crucial for DDoS protection.

  1. Click “Dashboard,” then “Connect Now,” to connect to the recent/fastest server.

  1. Test for leaks. I use www.ipleak.net to ensure my device now uses the PureVPN-assigned IP address.
  2. You can now surf the web, play online games, and access remote storage systems securely without fear of DDoS attacks.

Can PureVPN’s Alternatives Stop All DDoS Attacks?

PrivateVPN, NordVPN, and Surfshark can stop all DDoS attack types directed at individuals, developers, and other groups by masking their IP addresses so the attacker doesn’t send bad requests to their operating servers.

However, they become helpless when:

  • You’ve exposed your actual IP address to the attacker, and they know where to direct the attacks.
  • The attack isn’t against you but against a server you want to access.

So, even if you have their DDoS protection, you still won’t be able to access a server (such as a game server) that’s being attacked. In that case, it’s left to the server operators to ward off the attack.

Guess they’ll wish they had one of these alternatives, too.

Keep That IP Hidden

Your IP address is more than just a string of numbers. It can be used to identify you (in a torrent swarm, for example) and send bad bots your way for DDoS attacks.

Unfortunately, PureVPN’s reliable IP masking may not be enough to keep you safe against such attacks, as it doesn’t promise any anti-DDoS features.

That’s where NordVPN, PrivateVPN, and Surfshark come into the mix.

Grab your pick (I recommend PrivateVPN) and keep those bad bots away!
