How Many Devices Does CyberGhost Allow?

We are reader supported and may earn a commission when you buy through links on our site. Learn more.

CyberGhost allows up to seven simultaneous connections across mobile devices, PCs, gaming consoles, smart TVs, and other supported devices.

Likewise, CyberGhost no longer restricts the kinds of devices you can connect the VPN to.

In the rest of this guide, I’ll show you possible limitations to the CyberGhost simultaneous connections, how to bypass the connection limit, and everything else you need to know.

What Devices Can You Connect via CyberGhost?

CyberGhost offers mobile VPN apps for iOS, iPadOS, and Android units

You can download these apps from the mobile app stores to enjoy the VPN’s service on your phones.

Likewise, the VPN has PC apps spanning Linux, Windows, and macOS

Chromebook users can defer to the Android app since the device can install and run such applications.

However, CyberGhost doesn’t have apps for smart TVs (except Android TVs), gaming consoles (like Xbox and PlayStation), and streaming units (like Roku and Apple TV).

Still, as tabled below, it packs intuitive features to ensure it works with these devices.

Platforms CyberGhost Compatibility
Mobile Mobile apps
PC PC apps
Gaming consoles Smart DNS or router support
Smart TV (Android) Android app, Smart DNS, or router support
Smart TV (non-Android) Smart DNS or router support
Streaming units Smart DNS or router support

Note that the Smart DNS setup also counts towards your account connections, even though it doesn’t require connecting to the VPN’s servers.

Can You Bypass the CyberGhost Device Connection Limit?

You can bypass the CyberGhost device connection limit to enjoy its services on more than seven devices simultaneously.

I’ve shared helpful tips and guides below.

Setup CyberGhost on a Router

Setting up CyberGhost on a router takes only ONE device connection slot.

However, you can connect as many devices to the router to enjoy the VPN’s encryption without sharing your precious slots directly on those devices.

The router setup is the best bet for smart TVs and gaming consoles since they can’t download a CyberGhost VPN app. But you can also connect your smartphone and PC to the router instead of setting up the VPN app directly, saving connection slots.

Share Connection via PC

Not all routers support VPN installation. If yours is one, splashing on a VPN-compatible router is unnecessary since it can be expensive. If you have a PC instead, install CyberGhost and set the PC up as a virtual router.

Thus, you broadcast a mobile hotspot network to other devices to connect to.

Since the PC acts as one device, you can enjoy multiple simultaneous connections on other devices without jeopardizing your free slots.

Buy a New Account

Sometimes, your device count grows to the point where getting a new CyberGhost account makes sense. This will also be useful if you don’t have a compatible router since getting a CyberGhost plan may be cheaper than investing in a new router.

Note that you can’t buy additional seats and connection slots in your current account dashboard. Instead, sign up for a new CyberGhost account with a fresh email address to get another seven connection slots.

How to Fix the CyberGhost “Maximum Number of Devices Reached” Error?

CyberGhost will return a “Maximum Number of Devices Reached” error once seven devices have connected to the VPN and an eighth one tries to sign in or connect to a VPN server.

Here are a few ways to solve the error in such a case.

Automatically Logout All Devices

CyberGhost allows you to log all other account users out when you get this error on sign-in.

Doing so resets the user count to zero, allowing you to connect your devices.

All you must do is click the “Logout all other devices” prompt when it shows up.

However, this is only a temporary fix if you’re one of many users with the account password. In fact, someone else could automatically log you out the same way if they also tried signing in and got the error.

Remove Multiple Devices via Your Online Account

CyberGhost logs all the devices connected to your account in your online dashboard. That way, you can quickly find out if other units besides the ones you’ve authorized are connected to your CyberGhost account.

The best part is that you can also remove such devices from your account dashboard.

Here’s how:

  1. Go to your online CyberGhost account.
  2. Log in with your account email and password.

  1. Click “VPN” in the left-hand menu bar or “Manage My Devices.”

  1. Click “Delete” on devices you don’t recognize or those you’d like to remove from the connection slots.

  1. You’ll see your remaining connection slots at the top of the page.

Manually Disconnect a Device

Manually disconnecting a device is best if you’ve maxed out the connection slots.

Click the big power button in the VPN’s PC or Android app to free up that connection slot.

One common device connection many users miss is the smart DNS connection.

I confirmed from CyberGhost’s customer support that even though it’s not a VPN connection, it still counts as a CyberGhost connection.

So, unlink your TV/gaming consoles Smart DNS access when not in use to free up a much-needed slot.

Change Your Account Password

You need to change your account password if you see strange devices connecting to your CyberGhost account. Likewise, take this route if you’re always getting this error, even though you don’t own up to seven devices to take up the limit.

Here’s how to change your CyberGhost account password:

  1. Go to your CyberGhost online account.
  2. Login with your username and password. Use the same credentials you use on your app.
  3. Click your account icon in the top right corner. Then, click “Account settings.”
  1. Click “Edit” in front of your password.

Speak With Customer Support

You should discuss with CyberGhost customer support if you get the maximum connections limit error and

  • You’ve already changed your password
  • You don’t have/haven’t connected to seven devices

In that case, there might be some other issue with your account.

CyberGhost has a 24/7 live chat panel that’ll resolve the problem quickly.

Best CyberGhost Alternatives With More Device Connections

CyberGhost is a reliable VPN for multiple devices. But if its seven simultaneous connections are a dealbreaker, here are some reliable VPN alternatives to explore:

PrivateVPN – 10 Device Connections

privatevpn compatible devices

PrivateVPN gives you three more simultaneous device connection slots than CyberGhost, if that makes a difference.

Likewise, the VPN provider works on the same units as CyberGhost

So, you aren’t missing out on anything there, either.

And if you’re looking for some extras, PrivateVPN boasts free dedicated IP addresses instead of CyberGhost’s paid option. However, note that PrivateVPN uses dynamic, dedicated IP addresses.

Lest I forget, it doesn’t charge an arm and a leg for multiple VPN connections
