NordVPN and PayPal broke direct ties in 2019. But you can still pay for NordVPN using Paddle, which acts as a middleman between PayPal and the VPN provider.
However, Paddle is not available in all countries. For example, it didn’t appear as a payment option in South Africa.
On the bright side, many alternative payment options exist, including Google Pay!

How to Purchase NordVPN With PayPal? A Beginner’s Guide
Buy NordVPN using PayPal with Paddle or Google Pay as a gateway.
I’ll show you how!
NordVPN is one of the best VPNs on the market for streaming services and general online safety. It also has excellent discounted deals – it makes sense why you want to buy it!
But if you plan to use funds in your PayPal account to purchase it, you may hit a roadblock!
You can’t make direct payments from PayPal to NordVPN.
Luckily, where there’s a will, there’s a way!
How to Pay For NordVPN With Paddle and PayPal?
NordVPN subscribers can pay with Paddle and PayPal with a click of a button.
However, the process is more complex if there’s no Paddle support for your country.
The good news is that I have a workaround!
Here are the steps:
- Select the NordVPN plan you want to purchase.
- Choose “PayPal” as your payment option.
If the PayPal option isn’t visible, Paddle isn’t available in your location. My workaround is to use an alternative VPN to connect to an international server (I chose Germany) so that I can access PayPal.
- Click “Continue.”
- You’ll be directed to a processing window where you must click “Pay with PayPal” to complete your purchase.
- The next window will prompt you to log in to your PayPal account to complete the transaction.
- Once logged in, PayPal will ask you to verify the transaction. If you accept the request from Paddle, your purchase is complete!
Now you can enjoy the security of a NordVPN-protected internet connection!

Is Paddle Safe?
Paddle is a safe payment system to use for online transactions. You can use it to purchase a NordVPN plan with peace of mind.
Paddle has been a payment processor since 2012 and is designed to complete payments while avoiding fraudulent transactions.
It uses third-party anti-fraud software to secure its network to prevent fraud/malicious checkout activity. It also uses a point or scoring system to flag suspicious activity.
Is Google Pay Safe?
Google Pay is a safe medium to complete transactions.
This payment process is especially convenient if you’re an Android or Google supporter and can link your finances to other useful tools.
For NordVPN PayPal purchases, Google Pay is a quick and easy solution that uses built-in authentication, transaction encryption, and fraud protection to secure your money.
Why Can’t You Purchase NordVPN With PayPal?
NordVPN broke ties with PayPal in 2019. The VPN provider claims it wanted to replace the payment processor with a self-hosted payment system.
PayPal was swiftly replaced with Ayden, a platform that, according to NordVPN, reduces security risks while providing other benefits.
This change caused quite the uproar, with many NordVPN users discontinuing their loyalty. One user said, “You might be the best VPN service but if you make it this difficult to use–I mean PayPal is overwhelming the most popular online payment service in North America!”
The removal of PayPal left many suspicious of NordVPN’s actions, and some argue that the separation is due to a more personal dispute.
Can You Use PayPal for a NordVPN Refund?
A quick chat with NordVPN’s billing team confirmed “yes” – you can use PayPal for a NordVPN refund!
My agent, Kimberley, also confirmed the straightforwardness of the refund policy, saying, “every customer is eligible for a refund, as long as their initial payment is not older than 30 days.”
Kimberly’s not wrong!
Getting a refund out of NordVPN is painless.
How Do I Get a PayPal Refund From NordVPN?
Getting a PayPal refund from NordVPN is as easy as reaching out to customer support.
The easiest ways to request a NordVPN refund are to start a live chat or email the billing department.
To cancel via live chat, you must
- Open NordVPN’s official website.
- Click on the “Live Chat” icon in the bottom right corner.
- Type in and enter your request for an agent. For example, type in “connect me to an agent, please.”
- Select “Billing” from the menu.
- Wait for an agent to connect.
- Tell the agent you want to request a refund.
- Your agent may ask you for a reason for cancellation. You can provide one or simply state your reason is “private.”
- Your agent will ask for your account email and other authentication information.
- The agent will process your refund if you qualify for a 30-day money-back guarantee.
A 30-day money-back guarantee refund from NordVPN to your PayPal account can take 5-10 working days. So, you’ll need to sit tight and wait for these funds to reflect.

When you use your credit card, you must share details such as CVV digits.
Sharing this information can leave you vulnerable, especially if you’ve yet to purchase a VPN!
With PayPal, all you need to do is enter an email address to complete a transaction.
You can’t get NordVPN for free, but NordVPN offers an efficient 30-day money-back guarantee refund policy. This means you can ask for your money back within this 30-day frame.
So, while initially paying for your subscription, you can get your money back and technically use the VPN for free for 30 days.
NordVPN and PayPal ended a stealthy relationship in 2019 when the former swiftly replaced this payment method with a self-hosted option supported by Ayden.
There’s no definitive reason the VPN provider broke the relationship, but some speculate that the decision was personal.
We may never know why NordVPN ended its relationship with PayPal.
What we know is that many users are upset by this service’s ending.
The good news is that the money in your PayPal account can still be used to subscribe to a NordVPN plan!
Simply use Paddle or Google Pay as safe portals, and you’re sorted!
