I wish I could give you a direct “yes”, but it’s more complicated than that.
While PrivateVPN DOES work with Omegle, you may find yourself having to sift through a few servers before you find one that hasn’t yet been blocked.
If you can get this right – you’re in!
Before I put the VPN to the test, I popped the provider’s customer support team a message to suss out the situation.
Here’s how the chat went:
Customer support confirmed that PrivateVPN works with Omegle, but that it can be temperamental and choosing the right server is key.
I like that Customer Support suggested taking advantage of the 30-day money-back guarantee – this is an excellent idea.
Without burning your hard-earned cash, you can try the VPN with Omegle for yourself.
And if you’ve found it to be unsuccessful, you can always try Surfshark or ExpressVPN (you’ll have to find a server that hasn’t been blocked with both these VPNs).

How to Use Omegle With PrivateVPN?
As soon as PrivateVPN’s customer support team built up my confidence in the VPN, I decided to try it out myself.
These are the steps I took:
- I subscribed to PrivateVPN and installed the VPN on my computer (I’m using Windows). You can choose between 3 different packages to subscribe to, each one offering a money-back guarantee.

- Once the VPN was installed, I switched it on using the Poland-Torun server, just as the support team suggested.
- Next, I opened Omegle on my browser and continued to complete the “What do you want to talk about” section that appears on the home page (I entered “Art”). Then I clicked “Text.”
- To my utter dismay – the Poland-Torun server DID NOT WORK:
I received an “Error connecting to server” message.
- With my second attempt, I used a South African server. This time I received a full-on “BANNED” pop-up:
- But – third time lucky! On my third attempt, I chose the Switzerland-Zurich server. And it worked!
My experience is a perfect example of how using a VPN for Omegle is a “hit or a miss” situation.
You’re either going to find a server that grants access, or you’re not!
Once I was in and my VPN was working, I felt safe in the chat platform knowing that I had additional security in place – I could chat 100% anonymously!
This brings me to the next question that many Omegle fans ask:
What Are the Benefits of Using PrivateVPN With Omegle?
There are several reasons to use PrivateVPN with Omegle.
First, you can prevent prying eyes from tracking and logging your activity by concealing your IP address.
Using Omegle without a VPN can leave a digital record visible to your ISP, who can share your online activity with authority services if requested.
Accessing Omegle without a VPN such as PrivateVPN can leave a trackable path of your online activities.
For example, video and text chats (and more) can be stored on the Omegle servers along with your IP address.
This means that chat sessions you think are private and anonymous are, in fact, NOT!
Second, your connection to Omegle’s servers is unencrypted without PrivateVPN.
This means your data could be hacked or stolen (with cookies and timestamps used to trace everything back to your personal IP).
Here’s an interesting article on cybersecurity stats and facts.
Last, but not least, there’s the ability to bypass bans.
If you’ve found yourself on Omegle’s “naughty list”, then you’ll discover that your IP address will no longer be granted access to the platform.
You can use one of PrivateVPN’s dedicated servers to bypass a ban to continue chatting up a storm (this time behave)!
Help! My VPN Is Not Working With Omegle
As I’ve mentioned, VPNs do not always work with Omegle.
You may also find that a certain server works one day, but not the next.
If PrivateVPN is not working with Omegle, you can continue to try server after server – you may just hit the jackpot!
With over 200 server locations in 63 countries, you’re not going to be short of options.
If this doesn’t work, I did find a clever (yet also temperamental) hack on Reddit:
I tried it out – and it worked for me!
I connected to my Android’s hotspot and had success using the Poland-Torun server.
I did change the language to Afrikaans (my second language) – not sure if this had anything to do with it.
If you’re not in the mood or don’t have the time to take on a trial-and-error approach, you can always contact PrivateVPN’s customer support for advice.
They may just know which server is working with Omegle at the time.
PrivateVPN Alternatives That Work With Omegle
There are other VPNs to choose from, but to be honest, you’re going to be left fighting the same battle: sifting through servers to find one that works.
If you’re dead set on using a VPN with Omegle (which I totally get and support 100%), then you can give one of these trusted VPN alternatives a go:
ExpressVPN has a vast number of server locations as well as extremely fast speeds.
This means that you can potentially unblock Omegle and enjoy speedy hi-def video chats.
Here’s a great read on how to unblock Omegle using ExpressVPN.
Surfshark is a budget-friendly alternative that features a no-logs policy.
This means that it doesn’t log your activity/details.
It also works well with Omegle, with plenty of new servers to choose from.
NordVPN is loaded with some awesome features that are great if you plan on using the VPN with other programs on top of Omegle.
Just note that it doesn’t have the best rep for working with Omegle every time.
Hotspot Shield offers a decent selection of servers and allows up to five simultaneous device connections, which is excellent if you want to use Omegle across devices.
For me, PrivateVPN still gave the best results.
FAQ
When Does an Omegle Ban End?
Omegle bans vary in length, so it’s hard to tell.
After a bit of research, I found that the average Omegle ban length is anywhere from 7 days to 4 months.
An Omegle ban can also be permanent, but this is only when behavior is severe (nudity, spam, racism – that sort of thing).
If you’re impatient or can’t wait for your ban to end, then you can use a VPN for immediate access.
Why Is Omegle Not Working With a VPN?
Omegle knows that VPNs are used to bypass bans, so they implement measures to block VPNs from using its service.
That’s why you’ll find that older servers don’t pair well with Omegle and simply won’t work (you’ll receive an “error” message).
Recent servers, on the other hand, are less likely to have been added to Omegle’s “blocklist” and that’s why they work – for now.
The trick is to try accessing Omegle using new VPN servers until you find the right “key” that fits the “lock” – get what I’m saying?
Which Countries Block Omegle?
Generally, any country that blocks chat platforms such as Skype, WhatsApp, and Zoom will also block Omegle.
Why?
Because these platforms can’t be as easily monitored by the government.
Examples of countries that block Omegle include China, the UAE, Libya, Jordan, Oman, and Qatar.
If you live in a country where Omegle is blocked, you can use a VPN to bypass censorship and access the platform.
Can You Get a Virus From Omegle?
You cannot get a Virus from Omegle itself.
However, you can get a virus from opening a link that’s been shared on Omegle.
Omegle can be a hotspot for phishing scams and if you do end up clicking on a suspicious link, then a virus is a possibility.
So, while the official and legitimate Omegle site cannot infect your devices, user activity can.
A VPN that works with Omegle will help to prevent viruses and other cyberattacks.
How Does Omegle Block VPNs?
Omegle uses advanced IP and GPS scanning technology to block VPNs.
This technology can detect a user’s physical location and IP address – and if it finds that said user is accessing Omegle using a server that does not match an IP address location, then waring signals are fired and, BOOM!
They’re blocked.
VPN’s such as PrivateVPN can bypass Omegle’s server restrictions by using obfuscation techniques that scramble the traffic attempting to access the platform.
This makes it hard for Omegle’s scanners to identify incoming traffic and is, therefore, unable to block access.
Final Words
Although there are many alternative VPNs for blocking Omegle, I still find PrivateVPN to be one of the less temperamental options.
Their support team is also MAGIC, and you’ll have suggestions on which servers have recently worked with Omegle within minutes (I received my answer within seconds).
