The original Omegle shut down in November 2023, so PureVPN can’t work with it any more, and neither can any other VPN. Its users moved to sites built on the same idea, such as OmeTV, Chatroulette, Emerald Chat, and Monkey, and PureVPN does work with those.
In 2026 a different company relaunched the omegle.com address as a new, 18+ video-chat service with age verification. The same VPN routine applies there too.
While Omegle was still running, PureVPN didn’t work with it. I tried several server locations during my tests, and none worked, because Omegle detected and banned VPN users.
Luckily, I discovered a VPN that did work with Omegle – PrivateVPN! It works on Omegle’s replacements too.

Why Didn’t PureVPN Work With Omegle?
Omegle blocked PureVPN’s IP addresses to prevent spam bots and other abusers from accessing the site. To eliminate the problem, Omegle detected VPN IPs and blocked them immediately (instead of waiting for the abuse to happen).
PureVPN has better luck on the sites that replaced it. In my OmeTV tests, its Vietnam server got me onto OmeTV without a hitch, and my PureVPN OmeTV guide has the steps. If a site does block the server you’re on, switch to another one, or get PureVPN’s dedicated IP add-on, an address that nobody else uses.
PrivateVPN for Omegle (PureVPN Alternative)
When PureVPN didn’t work with Omegle, PrivateVPN was the alternative that did. At the time of my tests, it was actually the only VPN that still worked with Omegle.
First, I asked the support team. Caleb confirmed that PrivateVPN worked with Omegle but couldn’t specify which server.
PrivateVPN has 200+ servers in 63 countries and many IPs assigned to those servers.
So, I started testing. Eventually, I tried the Sweden – Stockholm server, and it worked.
PrivateVPN works on Omegle’s replacements too: in my OmeTV tests, it connected me to two strangers in the UK.

How to Know if Your VPN Works With Omegle’s Replacements?
The original Omegle is gone, but many VPNs work on and off with the sites that replaced it, just as they did with Omegle, so it’s worth trying with your favorite VPN now and then. To check if yours works,
- Try connecting to the chat site with your VPN turned on. If you can chat, your VPN is working with it. (Easy, right?)
- Try connecting with a different VPN server. If that works, the server you used before was the problem.
- Go through reviews to see if other users have successfully used the VPN with the site.
- Contact customer support for a direct answer. If they say it works, but you’re having trouble, let them know.
If everything failed, the site blocked your VPN. In that case, you’ll need to find a different VPN service that works with it.
For OmeTV, Chatroulette, and the rest, I recommend NordVPN first, then Surfshark, and PrivateVPN works on them too.
Wrapping Up
PureVPN wasn’t ideal if you were trying to chat anonymously on Omegle, and now the original Omegle is gone.
Luckily, PureVPN does the job on the sites that replaced it, and so does PrivateVPN, which worked with Omegle when PureVPN didn’t.
