Over these past few years, I’ve had my fair share of experience with all kinds of VPN service providers. Some of them offered excellent value for the money, while others, not as much.
Being in this situation myself, I know how frustrating it can get for you to go over so many VPN providers, without finding a reliable solution.

What Makes VyprVPN and NordVPN Reliable?
My choice of providers depends on how well they perform in terms of privacy and security, price, as well as efficiency and reliability.
Both VyprVPN and NordVPN managed to exceed my expectations.
Security and Privacy Features
A lot of VPN service providers make false promises that they can’t deliver.
However, NordVPN and VyprVPN are true to their word, and they have excellent security and privacy features.
They employ a different approach but manage to get the work done, as you will see in the comparison below.
It’s easy to make the mistake of overpaying for a provider, which is why I always compare prices before my purchase. I strongly advise you to do the same.
I’ve even used free providers but was very disappointed. They sound tempting, especially if you are on a tight budget. However, often, they are not nearly as good as paying VPNs.
Most free providers I’ve tried are either very limited in features such as bandwidth or servers, or they keep too many logs. Sometimes, if something sounds too good to be true, then it probably is.
For the best experience, avoid free VPN service providers, and stick to those that are a good value for the money, such as NordVPN and VyprVPN.
The performance of a VPN depends on many features, from its interface and applications to the servers and the connection speeds.
NordVPN and VyprVPN are different in many aspects, but each provider has its advantages and strong sides.
Ultimately, it’s up to you to decide which one fits your needs the most and I intend to help you with that.
Features and Things To Consider
Jurisdiction and Privacy
|Logging||Audited No-Log Policy||No-Logging Policy|
One of the main reasons I use a VPN is to keep my online browsing private from prying eyes.
As the name itself suggests, Virtual Private Networks must provide excellent privacy features to their users, although some fail to do so.
For a better understanding of what I mean by staying private, you need to be able to answer the following questions when you are searching for a reliable VPN provider:
Both VyprVPN and NordVPN are looking very promising on these matters.
They are very transparent on how much information they keep, and they won’t store any usage logs that might be used to identify you.
NordVPN is located in Panama and enjoys a high reputation for privacy.
The country doesn’t have strict data retention laws. Therefore, I can safely say that NordVPN respects your privacy entirely.
VyprVPN, on the other hand, is located in Switzerland. The country is not part of the Five Eyes, Nine Eyes or 14 Eyes surveillance alliance, and despite its strict data retention laws Switzerland does not censor internet users, nor it is as restrictive as other countries.
Regardless of the Siwss data retention laws, the company keeps no logs whatsoever on their users. Back in 2018, VyprVPN became the first publicly audited no-logs VPN service provider.
In other words, they hired an independent auditor – Leviathan Security – to perform the audit and prove that VyprVPN keeps no logs on their users.
Unfortunately, VyprVPN does not offer the option to pay with cryptocurrencies, as a more private means of payment, unlike NordVPN that allows this option.
Although they are both very good in terms of privacy, the fact that NordVPN is based in Panama and it enables private payment through cryptocurrencies, puts it in a slight advantage over VyprVPN.
Both VyprVPN and NordVPN are a popular choice on the market.
VyprVPN has been in the business longer than NordVPN but slightly falls behind in terms of popularity. After all, NordVPN is a fierce competitor, and it’s difficult to top its prices and features.
It’s interesting to see that VyprVPN used to be more popular than NordVPN, but in 2016 the interest for NordVPN skyrocketed. It was around that time when the provider started upgrading its service, and presented new features, such as its Android and iOS app.
Despite being the ‘less popular’ choice, it’s worth mentioning that VyprVPN is still a very relevant and trustworthy choice.
|Price Plans||VyprVPN Basic: || |
|Return Policy||30 Days||30 Days|
NordVPN is an affordable choice, with prices fluctuating based on the subscription length.
I really appreciate that this provider has a variety of cost offers that come with excellent discounts.
What they lack, currently, is a free trial. They used to have a 7-day free trial that was very easy to use and didn’t require a sign up process. Due to misuse and many fraudulent accounts, NordVPN ended their free trial back in May, 2019.
However, NordVPN’s 30-day money return policy compensates for the shortage of free trial or a free plan.
You can pay for your subscription with a credit card, Alipay, and cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin.
VyprVPN is a tad different.
The VPN service provider offers two types of subscriptions – their basic VyprVPN and a Premium subscription.
You can further choose whether to pay monthly or choose their yearly package that comes with a discount.
VyprVPN’s monthly premium subscription is more expensive than the one offered by NordVPN, but their yearly premium subscription is cheaper.
The VPN also has a distinct Business VPN offer, with prices starting at $299.00 per year for their VPN for Business subscription and $349.00 per year for Business Cloud.
VyprVPN also has a 30-day return policy and offers no free trial. You can pay for their service with a credit card, through PayPal or Union Pay. Unfortunately, there isn’t an option to pay with cryptocurrencies.
Overall, both providers are affordable, although NordVPN offers more diversity in its subscriptions, allowing you to make a more precise and affordable choice.
If you are a frequent traveler or you want to access diverse content from anywhere around the world, you need an extensive VPN server coverage.
Although it’s not a necessity for everyone or an indicator of the VPN’s overall quality, it’s good to have a VPN with more servers and server locations.
Good server coverage is often an advantage because:
More servers mean you’ll be able to unblock more content over the internet that is usually not available in your country, be it video, audio, or even gaming servers.
NordVPN has a more extensive server coverage, with a total of 5382 VPN servers at your disposal currently. The provider, however, covers fewer countries compared to VyprVPN, or a total of 58 countries around the world.
One of its best features and a huge advantage are NordVPN’s obfuscated servers.
They can mask your encrypted OpenVPN traffic and make it look like regular HTTPS traffic, allowing you to bypass geo-restrictions much easier. This feature, usually referred to as Stealth mode, allows user to go over strong restrictions, and is a great weapon against VPN bans.
NordVPN’s obfuscated servers allow the provider access around the Great Firewall of China, which is something only a handful of providers can achieve.
VyprVPN, on the other hand, has a decent server coverage with 73 server locations, placed in 64 countries worldwide.
Both NordVPN and VyprVPN are powerful and capable VPN service providers.
Despite their difference in server count, they will enable you access around geo-restricted content and help you bypass censorship, even in countries with strict VPN regulations and VPN bans.
It’s no doubt that NordVPN excels in terms of server count.
However, I really appreciate that VyprVPN owns and manages all of their VPN servers, instead of using 3rd party companies to host them. That is why they have excellent connection speeds, which I will discuss again further in this review.
Streaming and Torrenting
I fall into the category of people that find the use of VPNs to be considerably helpful in accessing blocked streaming services. I tend to use this feature while I am traveling, and I believe that you will also appreciate it.
Usually, VPN providers make false promises when it comes to streaming through their service, so be careful.
What I really like about both NordVPN and VyprVPN is that they can unlock most streaming service providers, even those with strict VPN bans, such as Netflix.
It’s worth mentioning that you won’t be able to circumvent strong geo-restrictions with ALL servers, but you will easily find the ones that are optimized for streaming.
However, to binge-watch your favorite shows and games, you’d want a VPN that won’t reduce your speeds. I am not a fan of buffering and connection drops, and finding a provider with decent speed is a challenging task.
As I mentioned earlier, VyprVPN owns and manages its servers, which adds to the speed and security. That makes it excellent for streaming.
NordVPN is also very fast, and I’ve confirmed this many times, although you might find than not all of its servers are equally efficient.
Finally, both providers support torrenting, which is also a nice addition to their overall list of features.
|Security Protocols|| |
Security-wise, NordVPN, and VyprVPN are tied.
They both offer exceptional security and strong encryption.
NordVPN supports the OpenVPN protocol with 256-bit encryption, as well as the IKEv2/IPsec security protocol. Additionally, the service provider offers Double VPN, CyberSec a kill switch, and DNS leak protection.
VyprVPN supports OpenVPN, L2TP/IPsec, and the less secure PPTP protocol.
Their encryption goes as high as 256-bit. However, they also have another proprietary security protocol called Chameleon. That is their principal weapon against all sorts of restrictions on the internet.
VyprVPN enables a kill switch, VyprDNS, and a NAT Firewall.
As soon as you open VyprVPN’s website, you will notice a small chat window in the bottom right corner. It’s the easiest way to get help from their customer support.
You can either leave a message or start a conversation in the live chat.
Additionally, on the website, you can find excellent guides and an extensive knowledge base.
VyprVPN customer service can be improved. They respond quickly, but don’t always give the answer you are looking for.
NordVPN also has a live chat and can be contacted via email. The responses are very fast, although depending on what you need, they can also be less straightforward.
If you are looking for quick answers, you might find relevant information on their support page. NordVPN’s tutorials can also be very helpful if you are having issues with the installation process.
Overall Feature Comparison
|Simultaneous Connections||Five Devices||Six Devices|
|Operating System Apps||Windows, iOS, macOS, Android, Android TV, Routers||Windows, iOS, macOS, Android, Android TV,Linux, Chrome, Firefox|
It’s refreshing to see two very competitive companies with a lot of features compared to other alternatives on the market.
VyprVPN is owned by Golden Frog, a global security service provider.
They have proprietary technology, such as the Chameleon or their VyprDNS that really makes them stand out from the crowd.
Once you set up an account and log in, you can connect up to five devices at the same time.
VyprVPN supports Windows, iOS, macOS, Android, routers, and they also have a CLI for Linux.
You can see their supported platforms here:
NordVPN supports up to six simultaneous connections, and the VPN is compatible with Windows, iOS, macOS, Android, Linux, and Android TV. The provider offers browser extensions for Chrome and Firefox.
You can see their full list along with some helpful tutorials here.
NordVPN and VyprVPN are two very user-friendly providers.
They are an excellent choice for experienced users, as well as beginners.
The VPN clients are nicely laid out, and it won’t take you a lot of time to adjust to them.
VyprVPN’s interface is very simple and straightforward.
You can find everything you need on the buttons on the bottom of the interface, as well as through their menu. One thing I really like is that they instantly offer the fastest server, and to connect you just need to press the big ‘connect’ button.
The Customize section covers all VyprVPN’s features, and in a single click, you can choose the security protocol and encryption, whether or not you want to use their kill switch feature, etc.
For support, you’ll have to click on the menu button in the upper left corner of the interface.
NordVPN is equally, if not more, simplistic, and has a user-friendly interface with just a few buttons. The servers are nicely laid out on the page, and it’s very easy to find what you are looking for.
To set up things such as the security protocol, the kill switch, the DNS or to access their obfuscated servers, you only have to enter the Settings menu.
Finally, you won’t have any difficulties with the installation process.
It will only take you a few minutes, and it’s as easy as installing any other app/software on your device. In case you need any help, both providers have very resourceful guides and tutorials on how to do this.
It’s difficult to say which provider is better between the two as both NordVPN and VyprVPN excel in their own way. I’ve used both and noticed how different yet capable they are.
I find them to be an excellent value for the money and recommend them to all of you privacy-conscious users, who know how important it is to own a VPN these days.
If you want privacy and security, you won’t make a mistake with these two VPN service providers, although NordVPN (click here & get a massive discount) is somewhat more advanced when you add all the other features.
Essentially, I advise you to choose the one you deem better, after thoroughly going through all the feature comparisons.
