I tested 21+ VPNs over 200 hours (2 weeks) in the UK and found that NordVPN is the best VPN for EE ISP. This VPN offers 440+ UK servers in 4 unique locations, allowed me to download torrents without getting nasty copyright notices, and improved my download/streaming speeds at peak hours when EE was throttling bandwidth.
Likewise, I found Surfshark, CyberGhost, PureVPN, and PrivateVPN as worthy alternative VPNs to use with EE if NordVPN isn’t your thing.
The best part is that each VPN does one thing better than the other.
So, continue reading to find the applicable, unique reasons to get either of my top 5 VPNs for EE.
Top 3 VPNs for EE ISP
![Surfshark Devices](https://vpnalert.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Surfshark-many-devices-300x180.png)
Surfshark’s unlimited simultaneous device connections on the EE network, coupled with 300+ UK servers and 3200+ global servers and low price, make it the best value VPN for EE.
![NordVPN devices](https://vpnalert.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/nordvpn-devices-300x158.jpg)
NordVPN carries 440+ UK servers to retain access to local content and 5500+ servers in 59 countries to bypass EE’s Content Lock, access content unavailable in the UK, and download torrents.
![cyberghost supported devices](https://vpnalert.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/cyberghost-devices-300x126.png)
Get servers optimized for torrenting, streaming, and gaming to securely enjoy special web activities on EE ISP without letting the ISP know.
EE has been caught in a user data collection and selling scandal, which would have seen the data of subscribers like you sold to the police and other third parties.
The data collection was so invasive that the ISP could log information such as how many times you check your Facebook account daily, where you like to order soup online, and more.
On top of that, EE is in the league of other ISPs that’ll throttle your internet bandwidth once they see that you’re using up a large volume. So, gaming online, downloading files, and streaming could cause the ISP to decide that you’re using too many resources.
Remember that you paid for these resources and should be getting the full benefits it holds.
Even so, you can’t download torrent files without getting nasty copyright notices. Because EE won’t protect you but roll over to copyright trolls.
In fact, you can get fined more than GBP5,000 or spend half a year in jail in some instances.
I’ve not even mentioned the EE Content Lock feature that restricts what you can see on the internet. Even after turning it off, multiple users have mentioned that some websites (such as The Pirate Bay) remain locked. EE doesn’t even provide a convenient option for business account users to turn this Content Lock off.
But that’s not the best way to enjoy the internet. You don’t have to keep looking over your shoulder to see if EE is watching your every move or waiting to question every download you make.
Thus, I researched and tested VPNs compatible with mobile devices that protect you from data collection, EE’s content blocks, and copyright issues.
So, read the summary of my top 5 VPNs for EE ISP below for a brief look at what they can do for you.
Ready to Download Torrents Securely, Unblock Content Abroad and Stay Private on EE? Use These VPNs
![torrenting with surfshark](https://vpnalert.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/torrenting-surfshark.png)
The VPNs that made this list demonstrated security, faster speeds, and privacy during my tests. Here’s what makes them unique, briefly:
- NordVPN – Unblock EE-locked websites, access foreign content, and bypass EE’s bandwidth throttling over 5500+ ultra-fast servers.
- Surfshark – Access torrent sites, play games securely, unblock foreign content, and encrypt your online activity from EE over unlimited devices.
- CyberGhost – Get servers optimized for downloading torrents, playing games, and streaming content anywhere without lag, buffering or EE finding out what you’re doing.
- PureVPN – Enjoy the added security of quantum-resistant servers in 14 Eyes countries like the UK to bypass online surveillance and defeat EE’s data collection.
- PrivateVPN – Provides free dedicated IP addresses and standard servers to avoid Captchas, defeat VPN IP blacklists and unblock content from anywhere.
I’m sure that piqued your interest. Still, you don’t need to get all the VPNs since one is enough for the job. But which is the best bet for you?
Keep reading below for my tests and comparisons of the best VPNs for EE.
Tests and Comparisons of My Top VPNs for EE ISP
I spent two weeks in the UK and had field time testing these VPNs on my EE network everywhere I went. I checked for speed, security, privacy, and other relevant features, comparing each provider against the other.
Here’s how they fare.
NordVPN – Ultra-Fast 440+ UK Servers & 5500+ Secure Global Servers
![nordvpn uk servers](https://vpnalert.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/nordvpn-uk-servers.png)
The first thing I checked with NordVPN was its UK servers, and I was impressed to find that it offers 440+ of those in 4 cities.
So, you can connect to servers in London, Manchester, Edinburgh, and Glasgow to
- Encrypt your EE connection without losing access to UK content
- Get a lower ping from a server closest to your location
- Unblock content available in other UK regions but not in yours
- Bypass EE’s content block while still browsing the local UK web
The only other provider that manages more UK servers than NordVPN is CyberGhost. Even so, NordVPN is spread over more UK cities.
So, I have no doubt that I won’t run into any server overcrowding issues with this generous spread – and I didn’t.
![nordvpn ipleak test](https://vpnalert.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/nordvpn-ipleak-test-3.png)
I tested the encryption to ensure the UK servers weren’t just there for show by checking for IP/DNS leaks. Not once did my IP leak on any server since I was getting the VPN-assigned UK IP address instead of the EE-assigned option.
Likewise, I checked that you don’t lose local functionality when connected to the UK servers. So, I tested BBC iPlayer, a UK-exclusive streaming service, and NordVPN unblocked it easily.
But UK servers alone won’t cut it. Especially for people like me traveling into the UK who want to unblock content they have access to at home.
So, I’m equally impressed by NordVPN’s 5500+ server haul in 59 countries. This made it possible to
- Unblock and watch France TV over its France servers
- Access NRK TV over its Norway servers
- Stream CNN News from outside the US
- Unblock Japanese Netflix to catch up on some anime that’s not on the US or UK Netflix
UK residents can also use these servers to connect to gaming servers in other regions, find search results elsewhere or shop for cheaper prices by avoiding ecommerce price discrimination.
![nordvpn servers](https://vpnalert.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/nordvpn-servers-2.png)
However, NordVPN has the least country count on the list.
It offers servers in the US, UK, and major European locations, so most traveling EE users in the UK won’t have issues getting a server in their country.
But what happens if you need an African, Middle Eastern, or lesser-populated European country server to access some content there? In those cases, defer to the other VPNs which may support the country you want.
Now, EE isn’t the fastest ISP in the UK (I later found out I should have gone for Vodafone or BT). Likewise, VPNs are known to cause connection drops, and I didn’t want that to become an issue for EE users.
So, I tested NordVPN’s speeds on my baseline 45Mbps EE connection and got 33Mbps.
![nordvpn speed test](https://vpnalert.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/nordvpn-speed-test-2.png)
This is a bigger speed drop than I got with Surfshark and CyberGhost, but it’s still capable of streaming content in 4K quality! I’ll take that.
I got these speeds using the NordLynx protocol. I also recommend this protocol for the least extra data consumption due to the encryption load of the VPN.
![nordvpn nordlynx protocol](https://vpnalert.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/nordvpn-nordlynx-protocol-1.png)
My next port of call was privacy since I’m sure EE didn’t just repent after the 2013 data-selling scandal. Since your data now passes through the VPN so EE can’t see it, I need to be sure the VPN isn’t benefiting from selling/mishandling the data.
Fortunately, NordVPN has an audited, strict no-logs policy, which means it never collects any data about what you do online. Thus, it won’t even have any data to sell or mismanage.
On top of that, NordVPN is based in privacy-friendly Panama, which has no serious data retention laws. Plus, it’s not in any data-sharing alliance with the UK, which is a part of the 14 Eyes alliance nations.
With that out of the way, I was more confident downloading torrents over NordVPN. After all,
- I can unblock The Pirate Bay, RARBG, and other torrent sites already blocked by EE
- NordVPN’s encryption means EE can’t see the torrent files I download
- NordVPN doesn’t collect any data about what I do online, so EE can’t check to see if I’ve been on torrent sites
- NordVPN won’t hand over any data (if it had any) to EE since it’s not in any data-sharing alliance with the UK
Moreover, NordVPN supports torrent downloads by offering P2P servers, which I could access on my mobile devices. So, besides the stellar torrent download protection, I can also connect to peers quicker for faster P2P download speeds.
![nordvpn p2p specialty server](https://vpnalert.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/nordvpn-p2p-specialty-server.png)
It gets better.
While my UK host set up EE on their router, most users have the ISP setup on their mobile devices. So, it’s great that NordVPN has easy-to-use mobile apps on iOS and Android.
In fact, I downloaded the app and set up my first NordVPN connection in less than 10 minutes. Account opening took most of the time, not the set-up process itself.
And, if you’re part of a travel group like me, you can share a single NordVPN subscription with up to six devices. Thus, you don’t have to pay for an extra subscription before securing your connection on every device.
The best part is that you can share the NordVPN plan with PCs, smart TVs, and routers connected to the EE Wi-Fi network for the same level of protection and encryption.
For all that, NordVPN is a highly affordable VPN in the industry.
It’s relatively costlier than the others I listed but provides good value for that price.
You can grab these NordVPN discounts to save more and enjoy a 30-day money-back guarantee to test the VPN risk-free.
Pros
- 440+ UK servers in 4 locations
- 5500+ servers in 59 countries
- Maintains 33Mbps speeds on a 45Mbps EE connection
- Audited, no logs VPN based in Panama
- Supports secure and fast torrent downloads
- Intuitive, easy-to-use mobile app
Cons
- Not the most country count
- Not always as fast as the other VPNs
Surfshark – 360 UK Servers & 3200+ Global Servers to Bypass EE’s Throttling
![surfshark uk server list](https://vpnalert.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/surfshark-uk-servers.png)
Surfshark offers the second least UK servers on this list, managing 360 of these servers in the same locations as NordVPN. Still, that didn’t concern me one bit.
Those are more than enough servers to unblock UK content, encrypt your internet data over the EE network, and retain local online services.
In fact, I shared the Surfshark subscription with my host, who accessed their HSBC bank portal while connected to these UK servers, and no alarm bells went off!
Like I did with NordVPN, I also tested Surfshark’s server encryption technology by performing an IP/DNS leak test. I got back the Manchester IP address I connected to, even though I stayed in London, so I’m sure my internet connection had been tunneled securely.
![surfshark ipleak test](https://vpnalert.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/surfshark-ipleak-test-2.png)
Furthermore, I tried unblocking BBC iPlayer with Surfshark, too, and got a buttery smooth experience. In fact, I kept watching the streaming service long after I left the UK over these servers. Otherwise, the geo-blocking for my region wouldn’t allow it.
Speaking of, Surfshark’s 3200+ server presence in 99 countries means you can also bypass geo-blocks in the UK and access specific content libraries on Netflix and related services. To be sure, I tested this by
- Streaming Hulu via the US servers
- Watching CBC over its Canada servers
- Unblocking Voot from its virtual India servers
I was most impressed by the country count, beating NordVPN.
In fact, Surfshark covers most countries on this list for EE users who want to unblock content or connect to peers from anywhere.
![surfshark country server locations](https://vpnalert.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/surfshark-country-servers-768x430.png)
During all my streaming tests, Surfshark didn’t lag once.
So, I tested the VPN over my 45Mbps connection and got 39Mbps, the fastest.
This minimal connection drop also came with relatively low ping and latency, so I had no issues playing games on Surfshark.
![surfshark speed test](https://vpnalert.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/surfshark-speed-test-3.png)
The best part is that EE couldn’t throttle my connection anymore, so I maintained these speeds for bufferless streaming. Impressive!
Since Surfshark doesn’t have an in-house protocol like NordVPN, I turned to the equally fast and reliable WireGuard protocol for these results.
It’s also the best for my data consumption, but it sometimes falls behind IKEv2 – even though the latter offers slightly less security.
![surfshark wiregaurd protocol](https://vpnalert.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/surfshark-wiregaurd-protocol.png)
Before I tried to download torrents on Surfshark, I confirmed how private my data is with this provider.
I found it’s based in the Netherlands, a 14 Eyes member country with the UK that can share data with EE if asked.
But those fears didn’t last since I also saw that Surfshark is a no-logs provider audited for these claims by Cure53. Thus, it won’t have any data to hand over regarding your online activities, even if sued in court.
On top of that, it has a running warrant canary page that informs you if it gets gag orders, court summons, or any other request to cooperate with the government.
With that out of the way, I moved to download torrents on my EE ISP.
I unblocked RARBG easily, downloaded a few files and game updates for my PC, and didn’t get any copyright notices till I left the UK.
![torrenting with surfshark](https://vpnalert.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/torrenting-surfshark.png)
Not even my friendly UK host has mentioned getting any of such since we both connected to Surfshark to download torrent files.
However, Surfshark doesn’t have P2P-optimized or torrent-optimized servers like NordVPN, PureVPN, and CyberGhost.
Luckily, it says that all its servers allow P2P traffic, but I’d love to see specific ones.
Plus, you can speak with Surfshark’s responsive customer support agents for recommendations on choice P2P servers to get the best torrent download experience.
![surfshark support recommended p2p servers](https://vpnalert.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/surfshark-support-recommended-p2p-servers.png)
Perhaps the best part of Surfshark is its unlimited simultaneous device connection support. This comes with unlimited bandwidth, so you don’t have to limit your connections to save monthly volume limits.
Thus, you can connect as many mobile devices running on EE, PCs enjoying Wi-Fi from an EE-run router, and smart TVs on the EE network as you like.
And it’s not even an expensive provider. In fact, it’s the second most affordable on my list.
But that doesn’t mean you can’t sweeten the deal with some Surfshark discounts.
Pros
- 360 UK servers in 4 locations
- 3200+ servers in 99 countries
- Records 39Mbps speeds on 45Mbps connections
- Audited, no logs VPN provider
- Supports torrent downloads
- Easy-to-use iOS and Android mobile app
Cons
- Doesn’t have specialty P2P servers
- Based in the Netherlands, a 14 Eyes country
CyberGhost – 700+ UK Servers & 8900+ Global Servers to Torrent on EE
![cyberghost uk servers](https://vpnalert.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/cyberghost-uk-servers.png)
CyberGhost’s 700+ servers in the UK make it the largest provider of UK-based servers on this list. I was impressed by having some of these servers optimized for torrent downloads, streaming content, and gaming.
I’ll discuss more on that later.
However, you don’t get as many locations (only 3) as NordVPN and Surfshark, which offer four UK locations. Even then, it’s the only VPN with a Berkshire IP address in the UK. So, you might want to consider that for lesser ping or faster speed if it’s closer to you than the other servers.
I wasn’t going to just take CyberGhost’s word for it, though, so I tested the performance of these UK servers.
![cyberghost ipleak test](https://vpnalert.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/cyberghost-ipleak-test-2.png)
For starters, I didn’t get any IP/DNS leaks on any one of these servers, so I’m sure EE won’t be seeing my activity over the IP address it assigned to me.
Likewise, I seamlessly switched between these UK servers to unblock Sky Go UK, Channel 4, BBC iPlayer, and ITV. Besides not getting content lags, I didn’t get any geo-blocking that would have meant CyberGhost tunneled my location outside the UK or isn’t reliable enough for unblocking.
But that’s not the only impressive part of this.
CyberGhost followed in the footsteps of the other listed VPNs with buffer-less streaming. Even when I disconnected from the streaming-optimized servers and tried regular servers, I still got crisp content quality without lag.
So, I tested the connection speed drop, and it returned 37Mbps on the 45Mbps connection. This is very close to Surfshark’s scores and more impressive than NordVPN’s.
![cyberghost speed test](https://vpnalert.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/cyberghost-speed-test-2.png)
Given that 4K video requires 25Mbps at the most, I can stream the highest video quality and still have some bandwidth to spare!
I preferred to connect to CyberGhost’s IKEv2 protocol, and I got those speeds over that connection. Alternatively, you can connect to the WireGuard protocol for equally fast speeds and better security. But it’ll consume (negligibly) more data from your EE mobile plan.
Additionally, CyberGhost made this list for more than its UK servers.
With 8900+ servers in 91+ countries, it offers the largest server collection of all my top-rated VPNs, even if not in as many countries.
![cyberghost for streaming servers](https://vpnalert.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/cyberghost-for-streaming-servers-3.png)
Combine that with some servers’ specialty streaming, torrenting, and gaming support. You have a fast VPN that unblocks content almost anywhere and ensures optimum privacy.
Thankfully, CyberGhost’s home is in privacy-friendly Romania, and it just completed the most recent third-party no-logs audit in the VPN industry. Thus, your data is in safe hands, and CyberGhost can’t hand anything over to EE or the UK government since it doesn’t collect such data.
Likewise, I was more at ease when I saw that the provider has torrent-optimized servers. So, what could go wrong? Well, nothing.
I repeated torrent downloads for the same files and updates as with the other VPNs, and it’s been all quiet from EE, copyright trolls, or both.
![cyberghost torrenting](https://vpnalert.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/cyberghost-torrenting-768x432.png)
The only (minor) gripe I had wasn’t seeing these torrenting and gaming server categories on my iOS device. But since they were on my PC, I only had to connect to an EE router hotspot, enable CyberGhost, and torrent/game securely.
As a side note, you can still connect to ANY CyberGhost server to play games, stream, or download torrents securely. However, those specialty servers are better engineered for these tasks.
![cyberghost ping review reddit](https://vpnalert.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/cyberghost-ping-review-reddit.png)
However, I must confess that figuring out the CyberGhost app took a minute.
Don’t get me wrong. The VPN makes quick connection to encrypt your internet connections easy. But when it comes to tweaking the settings, you might have to click around for a while.
Finally, you’ll enjoy seven simultaneous device connections on CyberGhost.
I ended up connecting only three devices at once, but it’s a better offering than NordVPN if you have a larger household of devices using EE ISP.
Likewise, it’s not an expensive provider, and you can get a 45-day money-back guarantee to test it after purchase.
Here are some CyberGhost discounts to sweeten the deal and get the risk-free guarantee.
Pros
- 700+ UK servers in 3 UK cities
- 8900+ servers in 91+ countries
- Audited, no logs provider in Romania
- 37Mbps speeds on a 45Mbps connection
- Supports torrent downloads with specialty servers
- Seven simultaneous device connections
Cons
- Slightly complicated mobile app settings
PureVPN – Quantum-Resistant UK Servers to Protect Your Data From the Government & ISP
![purevpn uk servers](https://vpnalert.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/purevpn-uk-servers.png)
PureVPN has 600 UK servers, which makes it the second-largest collection of servers in the region. For that, I thought it would offer more UK locations to connect to. Instead, I was disappointed to get only two locations (Manchester and London), which I could already get from the other providers.
The only saving grace here is the promise of more servers in these locations. After all, it’s sharing 600 servers across both locations, better than NordVPN sharing 480+ servers across 4 locations.
If you’re not concerned about the UK server spread, know that PureVPN delivers and encrypts your connection over these servers.
I connected to both servers on multiple occasions, ran IP/DNS leak tests, and always got back the VPN-assigned IP address.
![purevpn ipleak test](https://vpnalert.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/purevpn-ipleak-test.png)
Thus:
- EE can’t see what I’m doing online since I’m not browsing over its IP address anymore
- Advertisers can’t employ browser fingerprinting or any other tracking techniques since they don’t have my EE IP address anymore
- Everything I do on the web is now hidden from EE
It gets even better on PureVPN with these UK servers.
Every UK server is engineered with quantum-resistant technology on top of my other VPNs’ basic AES 256-bit encryption. So, even if EE tried to hack your live traffic on PureVPN with next-gen quantum computers, it won’t happen!
![purevpn quantum resistant servers](https://vpnalert.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/purevpn-quantum-resistant-servers.png)
I would have liked to see this quantum-resistant tech on all PureVPN’s servers, but it’s restricted to a few. I don’t mind, though, given that the provider chose to mostly equip servers in the 14 Eyes surveillance regions like the UK with this tech. Now, their data-hungry powers and privacy-invading abilities are kept at bay.
While I mostly used PureVPN on my iPhone, I noticed that its servers are optimized for streaming when you check the PC app.
So, I put it to the test and got Channel 4 and BBC iPlayer on PureVPN without hassle.
I turned things up a notch, unblocking content unavailable in the UK but elsewhere. You’ll appreciate the 6500+ servers across 78+ countries on PureVPN. That’s more than the country count on NordVPN and PrivateVPN and only second to CyberGhost’s server count.
In other words, you can always be guaranteed a reliable server connection, even if your EE network is a bit unstable.
![purevpn server countries](https://vpnalert.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/purevpn-server-countries.png)
Over these servers, I
- Watched Formula 1 on Servus TV by connecting to Austria
- Rewatched a boxing match on DAZN Canada to prove a point to my host
- Unblocked Sling TV content, which is usually unavailable outside the US
I tested a bunch of other streaming platforms, too, especially the ones I tested with other VPN providers already, and didn’t have any issues.
Since there wasn’t lag or buffering, I tested PureVPN’s speeds, which managed 27Mbps. That’s just above the 4K streaming threshold, but I’m confident I can get sustained HD streams anytime.
![purevpn speed test](https://vpnalert.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/purevpn-speed-test-1.png)
You’ll have the best luck with PureVPN’s WireGuard protocol for a healthy balance of speed (like this) and security. It also has an IKEv2 protocol, but I didn’t see much difference in the speed and data consumption, so I’ll stick with WireGuard.
![purevpn wiregaurd protocol](https://vpnalert.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/purevpn-wiregaurd-protocol.png)
But what about torrenting? After all, I saw some P2P servers when I checked the PC app while connected to the EE mobile router hotspot.
Is that good enough to trust it won’t turn over my torrenting activity data to EE?
Luckily, PureVPN is based in the British Virgin Islands, also a huge advocate for user data privacy without ties to the UK government.
Don’t let the “British” part of the name fool you.
On top of that, this provider has TWO independent security audits proving its no-logs policy. Thus, it has no idea what you’re doing once you connect to its server, and it doesn’t collect data that may help it know.
Plus, if EE asks PureVPN to submit your connection logs in court, it won’t have any data to provide.
![purevpn p2p servers](https://vpnalert.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/purevpn-p2p-servers-1.png)
Thus, I didn’t mind downloading torrent files on this VPN.
Unfortunately, you don’t get the P2P server category on mobile devices.
I didn’t mind, though, since I don’t do much torrenting on my phone.
But when I wanted to download some files from a Telegram channel, I connected to a VPN server to secure my activity from EE.
So, you can activate any of the servers for P2P traffic on mobile.
Likewise, I unblocked some torrent sites to download the same files and game updates as before. Over the P2P servers, I got consistently high download speeds which showed that EE couldn’t throttle my bandwidth.
I also got no copyright notices or warnings from EE, so PureVPN does keep you safe.
Moving on, PureVPN’s mobile apps were very easy to use and straightforward. For the brief moments I tested the PC connections, I noticed that the apps were similar. So, you don’t have a steep learning curve whenever you switch from mobile (iOS or Android) to PC.
Plus, you don’t have to stop unblocking content streams on your mobile devices to use PureVPN to download torrent files on your PC.
Thanks to its ten simultaneous connections, you should have more than enough slots for all your EE-powered devices.
Knowing all these, you’ll think PureVPN is an expensive provider.
Instead, it’s the most affordable VPN I listed here, and it still allows you a 31-day window to test whether it’s right for you or not.
![purevpn pricing](https://vpnalert.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/purevpn-pricing-768x349.png)
So, get these PureVPN offers for discounts on your plans and enjoy the money-back guarantee.
Pros
- 600+ UK servers in 2 cities
- 6500+ servers in 78+ countries
- 27Mbps speeds on a 45Mbps connection
- Audited, no logs VPN provider in the BVI
- Offers special P2P servers for torrent downloads
- Ten simultaneous device connections
Cons
- Not the fastest VPN service
- Server presence in the least UK cities
PrivateVPN – Regular & Free Dedicated IP Servers for Privacy in the UK
![privatevpn uk servers](https://vpnalert.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/privatevpn-uk-servers.png)
PrivateVPN has the least servers on this list, but it shows that servers alone aren’t what you need to judge the best VPN for EE ISP.
With 200+ servers in 63 countries, this VPN has fewer servers than the UK servers on any of my other options. However, its UK servers also cover two locations: London and Manchester, like PureVPN.
And I’ve never felt overcrowded whenever I connect to these servers, so PrivateVPN must be getting its optimizations right.
However, PrivateVPN has a neat trick: free dedicated IP addresses in the UK!
![privatevpn dedicated ip servers](https://vpnalert.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/privatevpn-dedicated-ip-servers.png)
This is impressive because while the other VPNs (besides Surfshark) also offer dedicated IP addresses, you’ll have to pay extra to get them.
But it comes with the basic PrivateVPN plans.
Likewise, dedicated IPs are usually flawed in making it easier for traffic on those servers to be traced back to you over time. PrivateVPN solves that by assigning you an unused IP address whenever you connect to any of its dedicated IPs.
So, you’re the only user ever going to get that IP address, and it changes the next time you connect. Thus, getting all the benefits of a dedicated IP address without most of its shortcomings.
All that sounds exciting, but I had to ensure PrivateVPN isn’t all bark and no bite. Luckily, connecting to the dedicated IPs in the UK or the standard servers unblocked Sky Go and BBC iPlayer. No doubt about this VPN’s unblocking ability.
I also checked the IP/DNS leak protection and wasn’t disappointed with the leak tests. Of course, I also checked with the dedicated IPs to ensure stellar protection.
![privatevpn ipleak test](https://vpnalert.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/privatevpn-ipleak-test-1.png)
Before I moved on to the torrent tests, a PrivateVPN concern arose.
Two, actually.
On the one hand, the provider is based in Sweden, a 14 Eyes region like the UK. So, the country’s data retention laws may mean PrivateVPN has to collect and log user data.
On the other hand, it’s yet to get a third-party audit for its no-logs policy. So, while it claims that, there’s no proof to back it up.
There are independent reports to verify this online, but nothing official from the VPN provider yet.
The only thing that keeps my mind at rest here is its clean history, devoid of data logging scandals or government cooperation.
So, I took its word for it, fired it up on my laptop (connected to my EE hotspot), and downloaded some torrent files. True to form, I didn’t experience any throttling or get nasty copyright notices.
In fact, PrivateVPN supports port forwarding, which provides extra torrent download speeds. In other words, I’m sure this provider supports safe torrenting practices on its servers.
That said, there are a handful of possible dealbreakers to share.
For starters, I couldn’t get the WireGuard protocol on PrivateVPN, so I had to use IKEv2 for comparable speed and security. It also has an IPSec protocol on mobile devices, but I’m wary of the level of security on that, even though it should give the best speeds.
Interestingly, though, PrivateVPN is also fast over its OpenVPN protocols, which is rare across most VPN providers I tested.

If you can look past that, you’ll be impressed by the ten simultaneous connections you get on PrivateVPN. That mimics PureVPN and is only behind Surfshark. Thus, multiple EE users in the household don’t have to pay for their own PrivateVPN accounts when everyone can share.
It’s also an inexpensive provider, especially if you choose any of its long-term plans.

How to Setup a VPN for EE ISP?
Setting up a VPN for EE ISP is as easy as enabling the VPN kill switch to prevent leaks, choosing a preferred protocol, and connecting to the desired server.
Here’s a stepwise guide using my favorite VPN for EE:
- Choose your preferred VPN. I like NordVPN for EE ISP.
- Enable the VPN kill switch.

- Choose your preferred protocol. I recommend NordLynx.

- Search for the desired server. I’ll use the UK for this example.

- Optional: Click on the main server location to get the best/fastest server or choose a specific city in those locations, if available.
- Wait for the connection confirmation and test for leaks.
- Start browsing the web without EE’s interruptions!
Can You Use a Free VPN for EE ISP?
You can use a free VPN for EE ISP, but it’s not advisable since free VPN providers usually log your data to sell to third parties, offer poor encryption, and often lack choice server locations.
Thus, you’ll only bypass EE’s attempts to sell your data by giving the free VPN provider that option. Likewise, you’ll be unable to unblock content abroad, get extremely slow speeds, and may even suffer malware attacks from installing some free VPNs.

That’s why I recommend affordable VPN providers like NordVPN instead.
Given its six simultaneous connections, you can share the subscription with a group of family and close friends, lowering the price per device/user.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does EE Block VPNs?
EE doesn’t generally block VPNs, but there are reports of some VPN traffic blocks by the ISP. In that case, it’s best to switch your VPN protocol, connect to another VPN server or reboot the EE network.
Likewise, always choose well-engineered VPNs like NordVPN since they naturally bypass most ISP VPN blocks with their server and encryption technology.
Can You Bypass EE Bandwidth Throttling With a VPN After Using up Your Plan?
Since the plan is linked to your account, you can’t unblock faster streaming/browsing speeds with a VPN after using your EE data plan. Thus, EE places the bandwidth restriction on your account, not your internet traffic, making it impossible to get high-speed internet till you pay again.
Luckily, you can bypass general bandwidth throttling on EE via a speed-optimized VPN like NordVPN when you’re torrenting, streaming, or playing resource-intensive games on the network.
Get Everything Privacy, Everywhere
You already have the internet plan from EE. But with a VPN, you get the privacy, protection, speeds, and security you need to get the most out of the unrestricted internet.
It’s best to get a speed-optimized VPN like NordVPN to encrypt your internet activity from EE, bypass its Content Lock, unblock restricted UK content, and download torrents securely.
