It’s easy to underestimate how important data protection is.

At least, the concept didn’t occur to me until I was typing in my credit card information one day and realized I didn’t know if my data was encrypted!

Since then, I’ve dedicated a lot of my time to becoming familiar with data protection.

Today, I want to share that knowledge with you, specifically giving my OctaneVPN review so you can see if it’s worth it.

Overview of OctaneVPN

OctaneVPN website

OctaneVPN is a VPN that was made to offer power and speed to a variety of different customers through having no speed limits or data caps.

Because of this, you can use the VPN as frequently as you want on any given data network!

There is also support for all Major Security Protocols, so more advanced users don’t have to worry about toggling and switching with other services.

OctaneVPN will work well for many users due to the high capacity it has for both speed and data. Its intuitive interface makes it just easy for casual users as well as active internet users who need to upload or download large files.

Casual users will also appreciate the free client software that the VPN comes with, making the setup process incredibly intuitive and easy to use.

A downside to the product is that the payment plan might be steep for somebody who doesn’t need all of the benefits.

For example, if you are somebody who doesn’t have fast internet in the first place, you might not need to pay for a VPN that has no speed limit.

However, I don’t think the price is too steep, at least considering how pricey other VPNs can be.

Another potentially negative aspect of this product is that it can only provide 5 simultaneous connections at a time.

While this is still a high number for a VPN service, experienced users who are looking for a VPN that gives more may be disappointed. I didn’t personally find this to be an issue though!

OctaneVPN also stands out among the competition by allowing you to access servers based in over 40 different countries, allowing you to choose the location of your IP address based on the location of over 80 different cities.

The included list of countries and cities is robust, but ultimately might be prohibitive for some members who need specific places that aren’t included.

Pros

Cons

Features & Benefits

In this section, I’ll be going more in-depth regarding specific features that OctaneVPN comes with to let you know just how effective the VPN is at:

Different Servers

The main draw to OctaneVPN is the security it provides through a variety of different servers, namely the servers spread across 80+ cities in 40+ countries that the service offers.

I’ve spent some time toggling with all of the options and am happy to say that I didn’t notice any slowing down the service.

One could see the lack of options to be a bad thing (i.e. other VPN services will have over 100 countries to choose from), but I didn’t find this to be a problem when trying out OctaneVPN.

Easy to Use

Right from the beginning, it’s clear that OctaneVPN is very easy to use.

I say this because of how simple the program itself is.

There’s always a fine line when developing applications to be just as helpful as they are detailed, with the most successful programs allowing new users to set it up easily and experienced users to customize it as they see fit.

OctaneVPN effectively balances this with its free customer app.

Contacting support is also very easy if you happen to need more help, with people available nearly 24/7 to take any questions or concerns you might have.

Simultaneous Connections

When connecting to a VPN, it’s important to make sure that the connection you’re using is compatible with any type of device you want to be encrypted.

For example, many people will sign up for VPN services only to find out that it doesn’t work on their phone or tablet, something that might defeat the purpose of having one in the first place.

This is why OctaneVPN not only supports all types of Operating Systems (OS), but it also allows you to connect up to 5 different devices. I was also very glad to find out that these simultaneous connections don’t affect each other, making it easy to switch between devices seamlessly.

A complaint that could be lodged is that there are only 5 possible simultaneous connections, but I believe that this might just be nitpicking, as OctaneVPN is a well-priced and affordable product that offers flexibility.

It might not have as much flexibility as other services, but I can’t think of many situations where you would need over 5 simultaneous connections.

Price

One of our favorite things about using OctaneVPN is the accessible price point. Even if you select the most expensive purchase plan (on a monthly basis), you still only pay about $8 a month.

This is incredibly cheap for a VPN that is so high-quality, especially considering that it is a few dollars cheaper than the rest of the competition. If you want to commit to one of the long-term membership models, the service is even cheaper.

The only potential downside to the pricing of OctaneVPN is that the 30-day money back guarantee is limited to 10GB of data being used. If you go beyond that threshold and decide you want your money back, that is no longer an option.

Social Proof

To show you how others are reacting to OctaneVPN’s service, I’ve scoured the internet for other people’s experiences to see if it is truly efficient.

For example, one of the reviews I found lists many of the benefits of using OctaneVPN, highlighting how easy it is to stay completely anonymous using the service.

This is because they work from both encrypted networks and ram discs, allowing files to be shared without any source being tracked in the process.

The same user also enjoyed how intuitive the interface for OctaneVPN is.

Another testimonial that I came across agreed that it is a high-quality product that provides good security and speeds, but had some overall complaints.

For example, having no free trial and not supporting custom apps could be deal breakers for some people.

What Should You Consider Before Getting a Service Like OctaneVPN?

To figure out which VPNs are better than others, it’s helpful to consider the following:

Security

Though you may want to believe all VPNs are safe (I know I do), they aren’t.

For example, the free VPN Hola was outed last year for using misleading practices that put its users at risk, something that is the exact opposite of what you want a VPN to do.

Because of this, it’s important to look into the people that are making the VPN and compare your experiences with other reviews.

Price

This is a factor that doesn’t necessarily influence the quality of your VPN, but it can limit your search if you’re on a budget.

To find a good variety of different options, give yourself an open budget.

Though you don’t want to spend a ton of money on a VPN, spending a bit more than you thought is worth it in the long run, especially considering that your data will be protected.

Speed

A good VPN isn’t supposed to impact the speed of your internet too much.

Make sure that you’re able to stay on top of your overall usage by finding a VPN that doesn’t throttle your speed in the name of encryption.

Who Should Buy a VPN?

Anybody who wants their data to be encrypted.

You don’t even have to be internet savvy for you to benefit from a VPN!

Keeping your data safe is important for anyone and a VPN can help you remain protected from online theft.

VPNs also help you change your IP address so that your data can’t be tracked, adding another layer of security to your internet experience.

However, if you’re somebody who is simply looking for a way to avoid viruses, you might be better off purchasing a virus protection program.

If you’re like me and want to make sure you’re protected on all fronts, get both!

OctaneVPN Alternatives

Like I mentioned at the beginning of this review, there are many different VPNs on the market that sport similar capabilities to OctaneVPN.

Because I think it’s important to know which other options are out there, here are the three most notable ones:

NordVPN – Premium Security

NordVPN is likely the most well-known competitor to OctaneVPN in the sense that it offers a large variety of different options and user-friendly experiences.

It exceeds OctaneVPN’s capabilities by offering 6 simultaneous connections at once, but the speed is typically slower than OctaneVPN.

This is why NordVPN has become synonymous over the years with a slightly throttled speed, but the developers have reportedly been trying to fix that.

Another thing to consider is that NordVPN is more expensive when you pay a monthly fee, but they also have yearly fees that average out to lower prices than OctaneVPN.

Similarities

Differences

ExpressVPN

If you’re looking for a truly premium VPN that also has the price tag of one, ExpressVPN is for you.

Not only does it have incredibly fast speeds overall, but it also has over 160 locations across 94 different countries to choose from.

However, the price is certainly prohibitive for a VPN service, costing you $12 per month and even the 12-month plan is more expensive than OctaneVPN.

It’s also worth noting that not every server is as fast as the others, forcing the users to have to toggle their settings until they find one that works for them.

Similarities

Differences

CyberGhost VPN

CyberGhostVPN is definitely a comparable product to OctaneVPN, offering a wide variety of servers across different countries without speed being affected too much.

It also shares the automatic kill switch feature that OctaneVPN has become so notable for, adding to the overall ease of use.

It also provides up to 7 simultaneous connections!

However, CyberGhostVPN is more expensive at a monthly rate, costing 11EUR and only being cheaper if you purchase a 3 year plan (2.45EUR per month).

Final Word

At the end of the day, having the right VPN for you is all about making sure that your data is secure.

When compared to other VPNs on the market, OctaneVPN stands out to me due to its intuitive interface.

Unfortunately, that’s about all OctaneVPN offers.

I recommend getting a well-rounded VPN like NordVPN or any of the other alternatives above.
