Unleash your creativity or stay in tune with fellow gamers by connecting to one of the VPN’s 3200+ servers in 100 countries, enjoying the VPN’s military-grade encryption and bypassing ISP throttling.
Read on to see how you can use Surfshark for Twitch and still have fast internet speeds to watch unbuffered Twitch videos.
How to Use Surfshark to Bypass Twitch IP Bans and Censorship?
The steps below work for bypassing Twitch geo-restrictions in countries like Russia, China, and Slovakia. They also work for breaking pesky work and varsity intranet barriers and Twitch shadowbans.
To unblock Twitch, simply
- Grab a massive Surfshark deal here.
- Choose a plan.
- Enter your email address and choose a payment method to complete your purchase.
- Log in to your Surfshark web account to download and install the app on your device. I’m using my Windows PC for this demo, but the steps for all devices are similar.
- Launch the app and connect to a server in a region where Twitch is allowed. I connected to “South Africa” because it’s my nearest server and should yield the fastest streaming speeds.
- Open the official Twitch site in your web browser and jump straight to searching or streaming content – or you can log in/sign up.
- Note: If you’re signing up with a Surfshark IP address from a foreign country, you’ll need to organize for someone to verify your account using a contact number in that region.
Can You Use Surfshark Dedicated IP to Unblock Twitch?
One way to seamlessly unblock Twitch every time without reducing connection speed is to use Surfshark’s dedicated IP servers. This is an add-on feature available at $3.75 per month.
This feature offers you an exclusive IP address in one of the following locations:
- US
- UK
- Netherlands
- Germany
- France
- Australia
- Japan
- Italy
- Canada
- South Africa
- Hong Kong
Thankfully, these are also Twitch-supported locations.
Follow the Surfshark dedicated IP guide to get one and set it up for Twitch.
Can I Use Surfshark to Block Twitch Ads?
You can use Surfshark to block Twitch ads if you install the Chrome extension.
This gives you access to Surfshark CleanWeb 2.0, an ad and pop-up blocker that worked on Twitch during my tests.
Unfortunately, the in-app CleanWeb ad-blocking tool denies access to Twitch.
See below.
Remember, even without CleanWeb enabled, Surfshark’s encryption prevents tracking and digital spying to reduce targeted ads.
You can also use Surfshark with Twitch Turbo, where video and banner ads are removed as part of the subscription fee. Subscribing to a channel is another option.
As a last resort, use Surfshark to connect to an alternative player for Twitch, like multistre.am. Simply enter the URL of the content you want to stream from Twitch into this third-party streamer and watch videos ad-free.
I used the Surfshark and multistre.am website to stream Twitch’s AlveusSanctuary without interruptions:
Surfshark Not Working With Twitch? 5 Fixes
If you find Surfshark’s not working with Twitch, don’t ditch the VPN altogether.
There are quick fixes that can have your connection up and running within minutes.
Here are my go-to troubleshooting methods:
- Turn off CleanWeb: As you can see from my test above, CleanWeb can be finicky and prevent access to Twitch. Ensure the feature’s disabled to rule it out as an issue.
- Change protocols and/or servers: Twitch can block VPN IPs if it suspects suspicious activity. The WireGuard protocol also doesn’t sync with all of Surfshark’s features. Switching servers and/or protocols may be the “refresh” you need.
- Use a browser extension: Surfshark has Chrome, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge browser extensions. The extensions work as a proxy to change your IP and location, offering an alternative Twitch and Surfshark connection if the VPN app fails.
- Refresh your app: Ensure your Surfshark is regularly updated to the latest version so that features work efficiently. For example, CleanWeb may deny access to Twitch now, but a future update could make it a reliable ad-blocker for streaming.
- Clear browser cache or open Twitch in incognito mode: Browser history can interfere with Surfshark by giving hints to your real location. Clear cookies/cache before using Surfshark with Twitch, or use Chrome’s “incognito mode.”
