The official status
Zoom limited new sign-ups in China in May 2020, when free users there lost the ability to host meetings. From 23 August 2020 it stopped selling to, and directly serving, users with a mainland China billing address.
Since then Zoom has been offered in mainland China through local partners such as Bizconf, Zhumu and Umeet. Mainland users can still join Zoom meetings as participants.
The zoom.us website isn’t blocked: independent tests reached it normally from mainland China in 2026. We found no official change to the 2020 arrangement since.
Zoom-based services from its local partners, and Tencent Meeting.
Get past a block
Zoom works for joining meetings, but most foreign work tools, such as Google’s apps, are blocked in China. A VPN connects you through a server in another country, so they work again; set one up before you travel.
Only government-approved VPNs are legal in China, and most foreign VPNs are blocked.
