The official status

Reddit in Indonesia

Indonesia blocked Reddit in 2014, during a crackdown on pornography, by adding it to the government’s blocklist of sites that internet providers must block.

In early July 2026 reddit.com came off that list. The communications ministry (Komdigi) said on 3 July that access had been restored after Reddit agreed to geoblock content Indonesia treats as illegal, such as gambling and pornography, and that Reddit must register as a private electronic system operator.

The ministry said it would act again under the regulations if illegal content became reachable from Indonesia.

Staying private in Indonesia

Reddit works in Indonesia today. A VPN is still worth having: it encrypts your connection on hotel, café and airport Wi-Fi and keeps what you do online private from the network you’re on.

History

Changes for Reddit in Indonesia

No confirmed changes since monitoring began on 29 Sep 2026. When a block appears or lifts, and a re-check on several machines agrees, it shows up here.

Method

How we test

  • Every day, test machines on Telkom Indonesia and XL Axiata home connections open www.reddit.com.
  • A failure counts only when it happens twice on the same network, while the site opens from other countries.
  • A change is published only after re-checks a few hours later and again the next day, on several machines per provider, confirm it. It’s dated from the first sighting.
  • Test machines caught getting around blocks, through a VPN or a filter-dodging tool, are set aside.
  • We test the website over home broadband. The app, calls and mobile networks can behave differently.
