Finland enjoys one of the freest internet accesses and a low censorship landscape, but that’s changing with different modifications to the internet laws in the country.
Thus, NordVPN is the best VPN for Finland if you want to bypass the recent censorship laws, beat P2P content blocks, defeat copyright trolls, and unblock the full web anywhere.
NordVPN even has Finnish servers that help travelers stay in touch with Finnish content.
But which is the ultimate choice, and why?
Keep reading to find out.
Top 3 VPNs for Finland
Surfshark offers a Finnish server and 3200+ other servers in 100+ countries to encrypt your internet connection, unblock content anywhere and stay private on unlimited devices.
NordVPN’s 60+ Finnish servers ensure the best local coverage to access Finnish content abroad and encrypt local connections. It also has 5200+ ultra-fast servers in 59 countries to unblock content seamlessly.
CyberGhost offers the largest network of ultra-fast servers specially optimized for secure online gaming, torrent downloads, and content streaming from anywhere.
The Finnish government maintains a hidden block list of child pornography websites. However, different sources have proven that the government hides under this umbrella to censor other content unrelated to child porn on its local web.
Likewise, it promised to use URL-level blocking for these restrictions but has quietly switched to DNS-based censorship.
On top of that, Finns are blocked from the majority of premium content on the free web, such as Hulu, Netflix US, Peacock TV, BBC iPlayer, and more. This affects users like you who may be traveling to the region as you suddenly lose access to these services.
Finally, Finnish courts have blocked access to The Pirate Bay, a popular torrent download website, and copyright trolls continue to run amok in the country. Not anymore.
Enable any of my top VPNs for Finland, and you’ll stop having these issues.
Here’s an overview of what promises they hold for you in the region.

I know all these VPNs sound like the next best thing, probably making your decision harder.
So, I’ll share the details of my Finland VPN tests and compare these providers below to help you make a better buying decision. Let’s go!
Detailed Tests and Comparisons of My Top VPNs for Finland
I put 21+ VPN providers to the same speed, reliable privacy, encryption, server network, and other relevant tests for Finland, and only five came out tops.
Here’s how they fared during my tests, how they compare against one another, and some juicy discounts to help you save some money off the top.
NordVPN – 60+ Finnish Servers, 5200+ Global Servers and P2P Servers for Secure Torrenting
NordVPN’s 60+ Finnish servers ensure you never miss out on Finnish content anymore, no matter where you are. That’s also the largest collection of Finnish servers on this list, reducing your chances of getting an overcrowded server if multiple users are accessing Finnish content simultaneously.
I tried these servers to unblock and watch Yle TV1, MTV3, and Nelonen, and I got access to everything like I was in Helsinki.
Fortunately, these Finnish servers aren’t only relevant for streaming/unblocking Finnish content from outside the country. You can also connect to them to
- Get DDoS protection when playing games against Finnish peers
- Enjoy encryption on public Wi-Fi networks like those found in Beerhouse Villil Waino, Flamingo Spa, or Kappeli without losing access to local content
Thankfully, NordVPN has 5200+ servers in 59 countries to unblock the content you don’t get in Finland. That’s the third-largest server count on this list but the least country coverage. So, you might have to check the other VPN providers if you can’t find a server in your country here.
Even so, NordVPN carries the major servers to unblock Hulu (US), Crave TV (Canada), BBC iPlayer (UK), NRK TV (Norway), France TV (France), and other major online streaming platforms. Thus, you’d be hard-pressed not to find a server in a major content library region.
I also like that you can use these servers to get better content on services already available in Finland. For example, the Finland Netflix library is abysmally small. So, connect to NordVPN’s US, UK, or Canada servers to get even more content than you’d normally have access to.
One other thing I liked about NordVPN is its stable and fast connection speeds. It averaged 33Mbps during my speed tests, using its fastest NordLynx protocol, which was enough to stream 4K content without buffering.
However, this isn’t the fastest VPN I tested, as you’ll soon see below.
But it got the job done with clear and crisp image quality, so I don’t mind.
The VPN carries this speed into the torrent download, ensuring you get reliable encryption and privacy as you unblock torrent sites. Considering that torrent sites like The Pirate Bay have been blocked in Finland, and copyright trolls are cracking down on users in the country, you need this VPN.
The VPN provider adds reliable encryption on top of its P2P servers.
That way, DNA, Elisa, Telia, or your preferred ISPs can’t
- See what you’re doing on the internet
- Know what torrent websites you’re visiting
- See the files you download on the torrent websites
- Discover your true IP address
The last point is important since copyright trolls once sued DNA for the IP addresses of torrent site users. With NordVPN’s help, you’ll now have a shared IP address that can never be traced back to you.
If these sound appealing, you’ll also love that NordVPN natively supports all PCs and mobile devices. Given its six simultaneous device connections offer, you can protect multiple PCs and mobile units from the same account without purchasing another NordVPN subscription.
But if you have more than six devices to cover, the other VPNs on this list offer more simultaneous connections.
Speaking of subscriptions, NordVPN isn’t expensive, but it’s the fourth most affordable VPN on this list.
Want more savings? Grab these NordVPN deals, and you enjoy a 30-day money-back guarantee to test the VPN risk-free.
Surfshark – 3200+ Finnish & Global Servers on Unlimited Device Connections
If you have many devices, are traveling to/from Finland as part of a group, or need a Finnish VPN for multiple users, Surfshark is your best bet.
While other providers also offer multiple simultaneous connections, Surfshark is the only one to bring an unlimited promise to the table.
But that’s not all this provider is good for.
Surfshark also has Finnish servers, although it doesn’t specify the number, to unblock Sub, Jim, Yle Fem, and other Finland-exclusive content from anywhere. You can also connect to these servers to
- Encrypt your local internet connections so Telia, DNA, or your preferred Finnish ISP can’t see what you’re doing on the internet
- Prevent the Finnish government and ISP services from intercepting your personal communications
- Keep public Wi-Fi network admins at Seku Pee, Klaus K Hotel, and Chico’s out of your internet activity and personal data
- Unblock your Aktia, Fellow Bank, OP Bank, and other online banking accounts from outside Finland without raising red flags
Thanks to Surfshark’s 3200+ servers in 100+ countries, you can also access content in other countries unavailable in Finland.
For example, I didn’t have any trouble watching The Designated Survivor on Netflix US, catching the Elon Musk interview on BBC iPlayer, and enjoying some sports on ViX (the Mexican version with premium La Liga content).
I connected to the relevant Surfshark server, and I got access.
Its 3200+ servers might pale compared to NordVPN, CyberGhost, and PureVPN, but it offers the highest country reach on this list.
Plus, having the second least servers doesn’t mean you’ll get overcrowded or land on a slow server. After all, it managed 39Mbps on a 45Mbps connection, slightly better than NordVPN on a 100Mbps network.
It’ll have been a waste if such a fast VPN doesn’t support torrent downloads. Fortunately, you can unblock The Pirate Bay, RARBG, YTYS, and other preferred torrent websites to download files securely over Surfshark’s servers.
The VPN provider also uses the same reliable encryption as NordVPN to ensure copyright trolls don’t see what you’re downloading, and your ISP is none the wiser too. Combine that with its audited no-logs policy, and you have a VPN that won’t hand over data concerning what you were doing on its servers.
Unlike the rest (besides VyprVPN), Surfshark doesn’t indicate that its specialty P2P servers are in the app.
Don’t get me wrong. You can connect to any of these servers to download torrent files, but they don’t perform the same. The best bet is to ask its customer support staff, like I did, to point you toward these P2P servers.
If that’s not a major dealbreaker, you’ll appreciate Surfshark’s affordability on top of unlimited simultaneous connections on your PCs and mobile devices.
The best part is that you’re still eligible for Surfshark discounts that guarantee you a 30-day risk-free guarantee to test the VPN.
CyberGhost – 38 Helsinki Servers & the Largest Server Network for Torrenting and Streaming
It might not be as much as NordVPN offers, but CyberGhost’s 38 Helsinki servers are no fluke. Every one of these servers can issue you a reliable Finnish IP address, unblock content in the country and keep your internet data away from the prying eyes of your ISP.
I took these servers on a spin, unblocking some Finnish content off Yle Fem and OmeTV. I also streamed both services on different days, long enough to see if CyberGhost would suddenly stop unblocking access to them.
That never happened, showing how reliable these servers are at what they do.
Furthermore, I tested the international servers on CyberGhost – and this is where the VPN provider shines the brightest.
CyberGhost boasts the largest server network here, with 9000+ servers in 90+ countries. In fact, it’s only behind Surfshark on the country count, and not by much.
This shows that the VPN provider is capable of unblocking content almost anywhere. And with such a massive server count, you’re not going to get overcrowded on any server.
That’s not even the best part.
You get specially optimized servers for gaming, torrenting, and streaming in the CyberGhost app. The easy-to-use mobile apps only come with streaming-optimized servers, which is understandable since most of us don’t download torrents on our iOS and Android devices.
Even so, I love the ease of launching the app and searching for a server in a specific region optimized for a service. So, you can get a Canada server designed for Netflix Canada, a UK server designed for BBC iPlayer, France servers optimized for France TV, and more.
Another interesting thing is that CyberGhost doesn’t limit you on these servers. For example, you can connect to the US server optimized for Netflix to stream other US content like Hulu and Peacock TV.
Given these impressive streaming optimizations, I wasn’t surprised that CyberGhost scored 38Mbps over the 100Mbps connection.
That’s higher than NordVPN and closer to Surfshark, showing that you get up to 4K buffer-less streams here too.
CyberGhost’s torrent-optimized servers are proof that the provider is suitable for secure torrent downloads. While you can connect to any of its servers to download torrent files anywhere, these P2P servers will give you the most stable connection, fastest download speed, and privacy during the download process.
It gets better: a P2P server in Finland can help with faster downloads in the country without leaking your data to the government, ISPs, or copyright trolls.
However, CyberGhost falls short of Surfshark regarding simultaneous connections and price. While it’s a tad more expensive than Surfshark, it only offers seven simultaneous device connections. The silver lining is that it’s cheaper than NordVPN and offers more connections than the provider.
Don’t forget to use these CyberGhost discounts and get a 45-day money-back guarantee, the longest on this list, to test the VPN.
PureVPN – 6 Espoo Servers & 6500+ Global Servers for Torrent Seeding
PureVPN only manages a tenth of NordVPN’s server haul in Finland, but it offers them in another Finnish city.
This might not matter much if you’re only looking for a Finnish IP address to encrypt your local connection or unblock Finnish content like Yle TV2, MTV3, Yle Teema, which PureVPN does. However, it’ll make a lot of difference for gamers who want a server closer to them (in Espoo) for lower ping and latency and faster gaming speeds.
While PureVPN falls behind NordVPN on the Finland servers, it does better on the general stage. After all, it boasts 6500+ servers in 78+ countries to access content unavailable in Finland.
Even so, it’s behind CyberGhost and Surfshark regarding the countries and regions covered. However, it claws back by offering more servers than Surfshark to lay claim to the second largest server network, behind CyberGhost.
Fortunately, these servers aren’t just there for show.
Over my two-week testing period, I watched some Netflix US shows (I remember The Blacklist), movies on Hulu, and Formula 1 races on Servus TV (Austrian server). I confirmed that the VPN unblocks France TV, access BBC iPlayer from anywhere, and ensure buffer-less Peacock TV streams.
Like the others, I tested its speeds and got an impressive 87Mbps on the same 100Mbps connection as NordVPN and CyberGhost!
This makes it the fastest VPN provider so far and the second-fastest overall.
Since 4K content requires 25Mbps, I’m confident of unblocking even 8K content streams on this VPN when that technology becomes available!
I’m even more impressed that I got these speeds over its WireGuard protocol since it doesn’t have an in-house protocol like NordVPN (NordLynx).
The massive speeds here led me to test PureVPN’s encryption because VPNs are known to cause speed drops due to their encryption.
The last thing I want is a VPN to leak my IP/DNS details while giving me false hope with fast speeds.
Luckily, the VPN provider checked out on all the tested servers!
Armed with these fast speeds and reliable encryption, I went for the torrent tests. Here, PureVPN has a couple of neat tricks up its sleeves.
For starters, it also has a P2P server section like NordVPN and CyberGhost, with one P2P server in Finland. While the Finnish server might offer faster download speeds, it may not unblock The Pirate Bay, BitTorrent, or other torrent/torrent client websites. So, defer to the equally-fast alternative servers in such a case.
Furthermore, PureVPN supports torrent seeding via its port forwarding offering, only matched by VyprVPN.
Considering its decent 13Mbps upload speeds, you can upload torrent files securely without raising red flags at your Finnish ISPs’ offices.
The only drawback is that you must purchase the port forwarding add-on since it doesn’t come for free. But that shouldn’t be a serious dealbreaker, and I’ll tell you why soon.
Before then, PureVPN edges out CyberGhost and NordVPN with ten simultaneous device connections, lagging only behind Surfshark.
The best part is that it’s the most affordable VPN provider, even after all its offerings. Thus, adding the port forwarding option ($0.99/month) shouldn’t make it too expensive.
Ready for PureVPN? Enjoy these HUGE discounts and get a 31-day money-back guarantee to test it to your liking.
VyprVPN – Fastest Finland VPN With Free Torrent Seeding Support
It may look like VyprVPN falls off the other VPNs’ pace.
But of the 21+ VPNs I tested, it’s the best choice to round up this list.
The VPN provider makes a strong case for itself with a reliable Finnish server that houses tens to hundreds of IP addresses. I verified this by connecting to the Finland server multiple times and getting a different IP address each time.
Besides the reliable content unblocking I got this way, I’m also sure of almost zero server overcrowding issues and better privacy. After all, it would have been easier for DNA or Telia to trace any internet activity back to me if I was always going on the VPN with the same Finland IP.
VyprVPN also impresses with unblocking content unavailable in Finland.
Thanks to its 700+ servers in 70+ locations, you won’t be stranded if you ever need to watch Netflix US, CNN Go, stream music on Pandora, access BBC iPlayer or unblock anything else.
Now, that’s the least server count, even though it manages more countries than NordVPN. But it’s not a dealbreaker since those servers house 300,000+ IP addresses, according to VyprVPN.
Thus, you never lack server options or get assigned an overcrowded server in your preferred regions.
The first thing that impressed me about VyprVPN was that all the streaming platforms I use automatically chose the highest image quality.
It didn’t even cycle from the least to the highest, so I knew it must be fast.
Still, I wasn’t expecting VyprVPN to match my ISP’s speeds at 102Mbps!!!
This doesn’t only make it the fastest VPN on this list, but it behaves like it doesn’t use encryption at all. Like with PureVPN, I tested the encryption and didn’t get any IP/DNS leaks.
I’ve been using VPNs for a few years now, and it’s not every day you find one that’s as fast as your ISP.
VyprVPN doesn’t disappoint in other speed applications, especially with torrent download support. My only issue was that it doesn’t have a P2P server section like NordVPN, CyberGhost, and PureVPN.
But one of the reasons it doesn’t carry so many servers is to ensure they’re all P2P-enabled. So, connect to any and download torrents at almost 3x the rates you’ll get on the other providers here (besides PureVPN).
Another similarity to PureVPN is VyprVPN’s torrent seeding support, stemming from its port forwarding provision. It’s even more impressive that it comes free with your account rather than paying an extra monthly fee, as PureVPN demands.
But there are two catches here:
- VyprVPN is significantly costlier than PureVPN, so the port forwarding price has been worked into the plan.
- Port forwarding on VyprVPN requires turning off the NAT Firewall on an account basis (not a device basis), which is unsafe.
Thus, I’ll defer to PureVPN as the better option for relatively safer port forwarding for torrent seeding.
VyprVPN fights back with 30 simultaneous device connections, 3x more than PureVPN and only behind Surfshark.
This doesn’t make a difference for single VPN users like me who only connect their two mobile devices and one PC. But you’ll appreciate this offer if you have a large household, a big student dorm, a huge travel party, or other groups who need a VPN without paying for multiple accounts.
Remember I said VyprVPN is costlier than PureVPN? It’s also the costliest provider here, but I can ease that burden a little.
Use these one-time VyprVPN discounts to get the VPN and test it risk-free for the first 30 days.
How to Setup a VPN for Finland?
The best way to set up your Finland VPN is to enable your VPN’s kill switch, choose a suitable protocol (depending on your internet needs), and connect to a preferred server.
I’ve defined a stepwise guide to do this using my best VPN for Finland, NordVPN:
- Purchase a NordVPN subscription.
- Download the VPN app for your mobile (iOS & Android) or PC (Windows, Mac, Linux, Chromebook, etc.). I’ll use a Windows PC for this demonstration.
- Launch the app and log in with your account credentials.
- Enable the VPN kill switch to prevent accidental IP/DNS leaks. Go to Settings > Kill Switch > toggle “Internet Kill Switch.”
- Choose a preferred VPN connection protocol. I recommend NordVPN’s exclusive NordLynx for the best speeds and security in Finland.
- Search for a preferred VPN server location. I’ll use Ukraine for this example.
- Optional: For locations with multiple cities (like the US, UK, and Canada), you can click on a specific city to connect. Or choose the main location to get the city with the fastest/best available server.
- Wait for the connection confirmation.
- Start browsing the web and unblocking content on your new IP address.
How to Get a Finnish IP Address?
You need a Finnish IP address to access local banking apps and online platforms from abroad, unblock Finnish shows on local streaming services and connect to gaming peers in the country, among other things.
Here’s how to get a Finnish IP address from anywhere:
- Choose a VPN with a Finland server. NordVPN is my best VPN for Finnish IP addresses.
- Follow steps 2-5 from above.
- Search for “Finland” and click the server.
- Wait for the connection confirmation.
- Start browsing the web like you’re in Finland.
Can I Use a Free VPN in Finland?
You can use a free VPN in Finland, but you won’t get the best security, privacy, streaming, and web experience. That’s because free VPN providers often lack Finnish servers, expose you to IP/DNS leaks, offer poor encryption against ISP/copyright troll snooping, and may collect your data to sell to third-party brokers.
Thus, it’s best to choose a reliable yet affordable VPN like NordVPN with Finnish servers, 5200+ global servers, an audited no-logs policy, reliable encryption, ultra-fast speeds, and top-notch security on all protocols/connections.
Frequently Asked Questions

You can also use VPNs to bypass ISP-induced censorship, which can’t be opted out of using other methods on large internet providers like Telia and DNA.
