The official status
Talk of curbs began in late October 2025, after a nine-year-old in Johor allegedly attacked his younger brother over lost Roblox points. The communications minister said the regulator was studying whether about ten online games, Roblox included, should be licensed, and the women’s minister said a ban was being considered.
Roblox told Malaysia’s youth minister it would step up monitoring and cooperate with the authorities. No ban was announced.
In May 2026 the deputy communications minister said Malaysia’s under-16 social media restrictions wouldn’t cover major gaming platforms in their first phase, though that could be reviewed.
Get past a block
Roblox works in Malaysia today. A VPN is still worth having: it encrypts your connection on hotel, café and airport Wi-Fi and keeps what you do online private from the network you’re on.
